Chapter 18

Thanksgiving week arrived quickly and Davenport gave everyone a full week off. Everyone was packing up for Aveline's. Evie was so excited she had never been on a road trip. They were all leaving Friday afternoon after classes and hoping to arrive Saturday night. The ride down was about twenty hours. Aveline was worried her friends were going to die.

"Aveline what should we wear on Thanksgiving Day?" Evie hollered from her room while looking at her closet.

Aveline hollered back from her room "fall casual. We are taking cute pictures that day. So, everyone needs to look presentable" Aveline was packing as well.

"Eww gross" Maria responded loudly from her room. She was not one to dress up.

"Don't say that Maria you want Altair to see you look nice on Instagram!" Elise teased. Elise on the other loved dressing up and was looking at her closet having a hard time deciding what she wanted to wear for Thanksgiving.

"SHUT UP" Maria yelled back. Everyone then laughed at Maria's bickering.

At the boy's room, they were also packing. Arno was texting Aveline about what to wear. He wanted to look great for Elise. "Hey, so what are y'all wearing?" Arno asked, looking at his roommates in the living area. Eivor and Jacob were both watching tv.

"IDK maybe a nice jacket" Eivor responded looking at the tv. He was not concerned when it came to packing.

"I'm just going to stuff a bunch of my clothes and items in my suitcase and just figure out the day of" Jacob explained. Jacob did just fine figuring it out the day of.

"Wait so you just wad everything up and put it in your suitcase?" Arno asked, slightly horrified at his methods.

"Yeah," Jacob said casually "I don't get stressed over packing. That's Evie's job"

"You guys are nothing alike" observed Eivor. Jacob smiled and rolled his eyes.

Friday arrived and everyone was packed and ready. Aveline figured they could drive for a good seven hours and when it hit 10 pm they could stop at the hotel. The next morning everyone was to be up at 6 am and arrive at NOLA around 5 pm. Stops would be minimal and few. As the group stood in front of Aveline's car trying to fit luggage in, Aveline had rules and a plan. She told them the times and what city they would be stopping in tonight which was Roanoke, Virginia.

"Wait for Roanoke where everyone went missing. You want us to stop there?" Evie said terrified.

"Oh my god Evie that was a million years ago" Jacob rolled his eyes.

"Evie that Roanoke was in North Carolina you will be okay. Anyway, seating arrangements will be this, and no fighting me about it. Eivor you will be sitting next to me and giving me directions. Arno and Jacob, you will be in the middle row since you guys are big. Then Elise, Maria, and Elise you will sit in the back. Yall can switch who sits in the middle I don't care." Aveline explained. "Then finally we are doing a FEW stops we will not be stopping every hour so be prepared." Everyone then nodded and got their luggage and themselves into the SUV. It was cramped, to say the least. Aveline then started the car and the Odyssey started. Evie started her new book. Whereas Elise and Maria decided to watch tv on their phones. Jacob was occupied with his tablet yup he was a tablet kid. Arno decided to catch up on sleep. Then Eivor and Aveline talked.

A good two hours went by when Jacob spoke up. "Are we there yet?"

"No, it's been two hours, we still have eighteen to go," Aveline said, looking at Jacob in her mirror.

"Oh, dear okay" Jacob knew his attention span was going to be the death of everyone. He could only sit for so long. He then put on his earbuds and tried to watch more tv.
