"Did I drive you away?
I know what you'll say"

Elizabeth Pov

These past couple of days have been perfect. Y/N and I have been getting closer, and there were even moments it felt like the old us. There were times when she would pull away, but that was to be expected. I hurt her in more ways than one, and I knew it would take time to earn her trust back. I was starting to see the warmth in her eyes again, like two years ago. I'm finally starting to have hope again, that maybe, she still loves me.

I've made it a habit to visit her multiple times a week, trying everything I can do to keep this friendship going. This is truly the happiest I've been in a while, and I don't want it to end. Things with Robbie haven't gotten any better, but I can't say I'm surprised. Ever since he's been able to take care of himself on his own, he's done nothing but stay out late, apparently with his band. And whenever he does make it home, I can smell the alcohol from a mile away. It was tiring, to say the least.

Today was my last day of reshoots for my new movie, and I couldn't wait to get them over. At this point, I felt miserable without Y/n. All I wanted was to be around her, feeling her comforting touch. Though, I had to remember that we were just friends, it can't just go back to the way it was. Not that easily.

As I waited to be called for my scenes, I sat on the nearby bench and reread my script multiple times, because lately, I've been forgetting things. It was the scene where Wanda attacks Kamar Taj, which meant it was a fairly long speech. As soon as my name was called, I immediately diverted my attention over to the set, ready to get this done.

After shooting the scene, I swiftly took my phone out of my pocket, deciding to text Y/n. I knew that we needed to take things slow, but the need to talk to her was uncontrollable. I sent her multiple messages, but she didn't reply. It was odd, she usually does.

After getting my things, I headed out to my car. I was beginning to get worried about Y/n, I tried calling her, but I never got an answer. I didn't want to be invasive, but I decided to go to her apartment.

On the way there, I passed by Ruth's Cafe, which was our favorite beignet spot. I knew they were her favorite, so I wasted no time to make a quick turn into the parking lot. Walking inside, I was hit with the fresh smell of different pastries.

Heading over to the counter, I waited a bit before a waiter greeted me. "Hello, how can I help you today?"

My mind instantly drifted off to the older lady that used to greet us every time, she was so welcoming. I wonder how she's doing.

I flashed him a quick smile, "Hi, is Ruth working today?"

A sorrowful look spreads across his face. "Ruth? Do you mean the owner?

I gently nod, confused as to why he seemed sad.

"I'm sorry, she passed away a year ago."

My eyes quickly filled with tears as I heard the news. She was such a sweet soul, with a good heart. "I-"

He sighs, "Yeah, she had really bad cancer, but she never stopped caring for this cafe."

Wiping the tears away, "No, she didn't."

Eventually, I ended the beignets and went back to my car. The news definitely shocked me, even though Ruth wasn't family, she treated us like it, and will always have a special place in my heart.

Once I'd arrived at Y/n's apartment, I didn't waste any more time before walking up towards her door. I did a few knocks, but I never got an answer until a few moments later. As she opened the door, I was completely baffled at her state. She looked extremely sluggish, and it seemed like she was struggling to keep her eyes open. "Oh my god, Y/n."
