"And I'd sing a song, that'd be just ours"
I almost fell to the floor as I scurried to get my keys. Hearing Kevin's words, a wave of relief washed over me. I couldn't lie, I felt a bit guilty that I wasn't there when she woke up, since I made a promise to her. But, the only thing that mattered right now is that she was awake and safe. Despite driving faster than usual, it felt like an eternity to arrive at the hospital.
When I finally made it there, I wasted not a second to rush inside, quickly informing the nurses at the front desk of my information.
My heart began to race as I made my way to her room. I didn't know what to expect, or how she'll react to me. With every step I took, the faster my breathing became. I was walking at a quick pace, but it felt like I was going in circles trying to find her hospital room. But, after what seemed like forever, I found myself standing in front of her door, staring at the doctors checking her vitals.
I couldn't believe what I was seeing. My feet felt glued to the ground as I continued to stand there while tears formed in my eyes. It all felt so surreal, but she was finally awake. After months of pain and heartache, the love of my life came back to me.
The corners of my mouth curved into a smile as I began to walk toward her. A single tear fell out of my eye once I heard her voice, which was something I missed tremendously. My body was overflowing with emotions as I took in the sight of her, sitting up in the bed while she conversates with the doctors.
"Lizzie, you made it." Kevin states, pulling me into a hug.
As soon as he said that, I saw Y/N's head quickly turn in our direction, causing us to lock eye contact. And instantly, I felt the whole world begin to fade. Happiness and relief coursed through my veins as she flashes me a bright smile, making my heart flutter in ways I couldn't even begin to explain.
Before I could walk toward her, I was interrupted by the doctor. "I'm extremely happy to say that she's a very lucky woman. All of her vitals look good, but she may have trouble talking due to being in a comatose state for so many months." She explained. "She'll also have to wear a cast until her broken arm heals. But besides that, she seems to be very healthy."
I let out a relieved sigh as I heard the doctor's words. I was still having trouble wrapping my head around everything, but there were no words to describe how grateful I am that she was healthy and awake. I never lost hope, not for one second.
"Y/N, Lizzie here has stayed by your side the whole time." Kevin says. "We practically had to force her out of the hospital at times."
I slowly start to walk over to her bed. A smile appeared on my face as tears begin to flow out of my eyes. "Hey.." I started off slowly. "I've missed you so much, my love."
She furrowed her eyebrows, "Who are you?"
My heart sank once I heard her words. I could feel my heart rate begin to race as she continued to squint her eyes, making me feel like a stranger in her eyes. Kevin glanced at me with a confused look, and then back at Y/N.
"Y/n, that's Liz-" Kevin started, but immediately stopped talking once he heard Y/N's laughter.
She gave me a weak smile, "I'm kidding. I got you both, didn't I?"
I wiped my tears away as a smile formed on my face. Without hesitation, my feet carried me to the side of her hospital bed. I intertwined our hands, placing a soft, loving kiss on her knuckles. I closed my eyes for a moment, allowing myself to take it all in. And when she gave my hand a gentle squeeze, I felt my heart finally relax. For the first time in a while, I was at peace.
As I opened my eyes, I was instantly met by hers, which were so full of endless love and warmth. A sense of comfort ran throughout my body as she clasped our hands together. I could finally feel her.
