Chapter thirty nine

Levi used his gear and begun flying from building to building. I didn't even hesitate in following him. My father told me to stay close and I'll follow her orders no matter what. We made it to the wagon where Eren and Historia were being kept, only the wagon was broken and the two lay unconscious in the back while an unknown drive takes the two who knows where. Levi and I start to catch up to them but as we round a corner we're cut off by 4 men using ODM gear and guns. I noticed them before my dad father did, "Levi!" I shouted to get his attention. Levi instantly noticed the men and we were able to zip backwards just in time to avoid their gun shots. Levi and I shot through the air but the men kept chasing us. They chased after us and continued to open fire. I scraped the ground and ran into some barrels trying to out maneuver them and keep track of my father. Suddenly I saw the shadow of the man I now knew as Kenny flying over us. Levi noticed him too and Kenny instantly opened fire on us. Levi shot himself into an ally way and of course I followed. We bounced from wall to wall but the men didn't let up. They were still trailing us and still had open fire on us. Levi and I flew as fast as we could until the men were a little behind us. I made it next to my father and he looked over at me. "Rin. Follow my lead got it?" All I did was a simple nod before Levi flew through the doors of a near by tavern. Preparing for impact I flowed suit and shot through the doors as well. When I flew through the doors my body hit the counter on the other side of the well. Levi stood up but I sat for a moment, trying to catch my breath. The whispers started then, which was to be expected since we did just crash a full tavern.
"Look it's levi. From the scouts."
"Who's that with him?"
"That's Rin Ackerman, idiot."
"P-please make yourselves at home!"
I nudged my fathers leg, "he's here," I whispered. Levi looked down at me. "Rin, listen closely. If we do this right we can get out. But you have to do exactly as I say." I nodded, listening to his plan.
"Hmm I seem to have smelled a rat in this fine establishment. And I'm here to eliminate all the vermin I can. With a BANG! BANG BANG!"
I kept my hiding spot behind the main door. Kenny groaned, "awe common! Are you here or not."
"Right here Kenny," I said stepping out into the open. Kenny faced me and chuckled a bit, "well this is unexpected." I laughed a little too, "my father used to tell me all kinds of stories about you when I was growing up. It's crazy, I thought you'd be dead, with all the MP's you butchered, but now you're great friends uh, you old bastard." Kenny narrowed his eyes, "yea? Well adults do plenty of things kids like you and little Levi can't possibly understand. Oh wait, my mistake, he's supposed to be an adult now but he's still such a runt it's hard to tell. But it looks like the apple doesn't fall far from the tree with you. Always hoped I'd get to see him in action one day. And I can't say im disappointed either, seems he still remembers every trick I taught him. Not only that but he passed em down to you. Like a family heirloom, in some sick way. But did your daddy ever teach you what happens to a cornered rat. Cause if he had you'd know that wherever you run you'll find a bullet waiting for the both of ya." Kenny pulled out his gun and clicked it, stepping closer and closer it me, he was only an inch in front of my face. I knew I had to keep up the act, just a little longer. I looked up at the man, narrowing my eyes and daring him to shoot. We made direct eye contact for a couple seconds but it felt like life times. Suddenly Kenny pulled away and grabbed a chair, he glanced over at me and smirked before throwing the chair at the wall in one swift motion. It scared me, but I forced my face to remain unchanged and monotone. "Levi, I know you're here. So, you must have become a scout for a reason. I think I know what that is, we were forced to survive in that hellhole. Giving everything we had just to stay alive. So when we found out how big the world really was you can bet it hurt like hell. But you know what saved us? We found something we enjoyed doing, it's that simple. Everyman needs himself a hobby." Kenny now picked up another chair and turned to face me again. He pulled out his gun and held it directly in front of my head. We made eye contact for a moment before I took two steps forward and so the gun was now pressed against my forehead. This would give Levi the opening. I looked Kenny in the eyes and said, "That's why you blew our peoples head off then?" Suddenly I heard the voice of my father, "yea. Cause it's fulfilling?" Kenny perked up, still holding the gun to my head, "yep! To achieve my grander goal I'll kill whoever gets in my way. And you and your kid are no different. You kill too when it benefits you." And in one swift Motion my father spoke, "yea," and swung a shot gun over the counter and shot directly at Kenny sending him flying out of the tavern. I picked up Kenny's gun and pocketed it. Levi turned to me and I nodded.
Levi threw a chair out of one of the windows as a diversion, and it worked. These idiots started shooting at it, believing it was us. My father and I used this opportunity to fly out of a lower window, Levi killed the guard and we ran across the roof tops using his body as a shield. "Rin. If you want to survive, you have to kill them." This made my stomach turn a little. The thought of killing people didn't sit well with me, but I'd been around it my whole life. I just never thought I'd have to do it with my own hands. Father and I flew past 3 more men, he cut down 2 and I used Kenny's gun and blew the brains out of the 3rd. I felt my hands shaking but I refused to let myself think about it.
