Memories ~ Attack on Titan

Chapter seventeen

Mikasa ran to him, hugged him, but Armin and I stood stationary, watching is abstract horror.

The others sat on a stone wall in town, I avoided them, I sat on the far end just wanting to be left alone.
Eren was alive. He was a Titan. How is this possible? Are all humans titans? Have I just been killing people?
My thoughts were ended by the sound of an explosion. This captured my attention and I looked towards the direction it came from.
Titan smoke?
Then cannon fire.
Why only one shot?
Everyone at this point was panicking, I was too but only on the inside. These days it came naturally to stay stone cold. Everyone ran for the roof tops, Jean included but after a moment he realized I wasn't following, "Rin, common we're leaving." I gave one last look before grabbing Jean's hand and running with the others.

We were all forced to gather in front of the wall. Commander of the garrison, commander Pixis, addressed us.
"Officers! We have a plan!" He announced.
"Retake Trost? Are they kidding"
"Someone up top has lost their mind."
"Is the brass that out of touch?"
"This is a lost cause."
"Defending wall rose is the only option left."
Whispers broke out in the crowed. I couldn't help but get pissed, we don't risk our lives everyday for these bastards not to do their jobs, they signed up for this.
Jean started arguing with another man, I couldn't take it anymore, I couldn't take the arguing, I closed my eyes and grabbed Jean's arm holding it to my chest, pulling him away from the man. He looked down at me obviously surprised by my reaction.
"Rin?"
"I don't want to talk." I said with my eyes still shut.
Jean sighed, "you don't have to, just stay with me from now on."
I knew I looked like shit, but that was the last of my concerns.

"ATTENTION!"
The loud voice of pixis yelled causing the whispering to silence.
"Take note, the blueprint of the Trost recovery mission is this, our main objective is to reseal the hole. And this will be done manually. As for
How this will be done, that's where this fellow comes in. Allow me to introduce Eren Jeager."
I felt Jean tense up and I couldn't help but do the same.
Eren knew Pixis? What the hell is this?

Pixis continues, "don't let his size fool you. This man is the product of cutting edge science. Cadet Jaeger had the ability to make and control a titans body at will. Remember the massive bolder roughly a league from the gate. Having assumed Titan form, Jaeger will hoist that bolder on his back, put it on the hole and voila! And this is where you come in, your job is to defend him. Yes. Defend a Titan again other titans!"
We were all quiet, then the panic set in. People yelling, throwing insults. People started leaving, and the threats of execution hardly seemed to bother most.
Pixis announced, Those who close to walk away will not be executed. And that was enough for some many to leave. I was still holding onto Jeans arm, I looked up at him and noticed the angry expression on his face. However I don't think it was anger that he felt, but internal conflict.

Eren, he assumed Titan form just like they said he would. Jean seemed to be holding his own, I wanted to check on Mikasa and Armin but I could only see Mikasa, I flew over to her and stood on the roof top next to her, "how are you?" I asked trying to sound sincere. She looked at me, "You don't need to worry about me." we both stared at Eren's new Titan body, then Mikasa spoke, "it's not easy to see how he'll manage to lift that rock. But In terms of sheer will power, he's got this." My eyes never left Eren, "Eren's more capable of this then anyone, he'll be fine," the moment we shared quickly came to an end an end as Eren turned around. He approached us slowly.
"Eren?"
Then all I felt was the impact, I grabbed Mikasa and pulled her towards myself hoping to throw us both out of the way. Eren had punched the rooftop we were standing on, I thought for sure Mikasa and I were crushed, but still I managed to grab her and pull us both to a higher part of the roof. We didn't even get a second to rest before the second punch was coming.
"Look out!" Was what I heard before the sound of crumbling as Eren punched the roof again. This time Mikasa wasted no time jumping on the head of Eren's Titan. I jumped to the roof where the other garrison members were standing.
Then Eren punched himself in the face, and Mikasa flew over to the area where I and the others were standing.
"titan coming."
I ran towards the edge of the roof, "I got it, protect Eren at all cost!" I yelled and headed for the titans.
"Nape of the neck," I repeated to myself as I sliced open the titan's nape. I struck down 2 more in the area while I was at it. I returned to the others, Mikasa was charging at one of the garrison members, I grabbed her arm, "hey what the hell happened?" Commander Ian put his arm out too, "that's enough."
More titans were coming, Ian instructed, "team Rico take out the titans from behind. Team Mitabi and I will handle the ones in the front."
Rico got in Ian's face, "are you crazy!" She yelled. Ian was quick to snap back, "in case you forgot I'm in charge here! Now do as your told! We won't leave Jaeger defenseless, end of story. Change of plans, our job now is to keep the others off him so he can recover. Weather we like it or not he's still out best chance. We won't leave him. He can't be replaced like us!"

—-normal pov——
Jean ran along the roof tops towards Connie and Marco. He shouted, "what's up with the red smoke what happened?"
Marco looked at his friend, "I'm not sure, Armin went to go check. But I think it's okay."
Jean stood with a typical scowl,"yea? Well I also can't find Rin. She was with me one second and now she's gone." Connie and Marco both looked at Jean with concern. "She's okay, I bet she's with Mikasa." Marco said trying to give a reassuring smile but no one seemed to be buying it. Then Connie scoffed, "not to be that guy but this feels kinda pointless."
Jean did the same, "since when does a fight against the titans not feel pointless. Best thing we can do now is try not to lose more."

——Rin pov—-
Mikasa looked over at me, "why isn't he recovering? Do you think the earlier damage compromised him?" I took a deep breath, "no telling, I've never heard of anything like this, no one has." Mikasa looked back towards Eren, "oh Eren, what is this doing to you?" She said mainly talking to herself. "What if he won't change back." I could head the panic in her voice. I put my hand on her shoulder, "stop, that's not helping." I glared at her.

Eren was up. Up and heading for the bolder, but titans were swarming him, we had to think fast, Mikasa and I started slashing down titans left and right. Armin was pleading to Eren's Titan body but it doesn't seem to be doing much good, the only thing we could do was to keep slashing titans. I stood next to Mikasa and Ian. 
Eren was doing it, he was carrying that bolder on his back, I looked over, Mikasa's face lit up.
"Rin! Mikasa!" Armin came running towards us.
"He came out of it, and now he's determined to see the mission through to the end! As long as we have his back!"
"Defend him! To the last man! I don't want a single Titan near him!"
Ian looked at Mikasa, Armin and I, "the 3 of you go, I want you at Eren's side now! Hop to soldiers that's an order!"
"SIR YES SIR." We shouted and flew towards Eren. Mikasa, Armin and I ran for the Titan. Mikasa and I sliced the last of the titans and Eren threw the rock at the hole. Mikasa, Armin and I looked at him astonished. Armin grabbed my arm, "Rin help me get him!" He yelled, I nodded and Armin and I ran to the top of the Titan body to get Eren. Mikasa yelled from the ground, "is he okay?" I looked down at her, "he's scorching hot. We have to get him up the wall!" Armin and I pulled on his arms but then wouldn't come unattached from his Titan body. Mikasa and Rico joined us, cutting Eren free. Eren's body fell onto mine and I held him tight, pulling him as far from the titans as possible. Their were to many, we weren't going to make it. Mikasa and I exchanged a look, my blades are dull and I have no gas," I yelled. Mikasa nodded, "same, what do we do?" I had to protect Eren, it can't end like this, "I'm so sorry." I whispered before all the titans fell in an instant. I couldn't believe it, those green capes. I shielded my eyes with my hands to block the sun and get a better look at the scout that had just saved out lives. I saw him, standing on top of the fallen Titan body. Mikasa and Armin were at my sides as the dust cleared. The man turned to face us now, my heart skipped a beat. Mikasa looked at the man, "Who is that?" Him and I made eye contact.
"That's my dad."

Levi faced us, "pay attention kids." He said jumping off of the Titan carcass and heading for us. "This is the part where you explain to me exactly what the hell it is that I'm looking at."
