Chapter twenty three

—-Rin pov—-
I sat in my shared room alone, until Mikasa walked in. she looked at me, "hey. Ignore Jean. What he said was uncalled for. But you'll have to work together tomorrow so try to let it go." Mikasa wasn't known for being comforting, but her effort was heart warming.
I looked up at her, "yea. Things just aren't great between us right now."
Mikasa sat on her bed which was in front of mine, "tell me."
I let out a deep breath, closing my eyes briefly.
Where do I even begin
"I tried to kiss him and he didn't want to. Now things are awkward."
Mikasa didn't say anything.
I felt my felt my face heat up just thinking about it.
She probably thinks I'm an idiot.
Finally she broke the bone chilling silence, "he cares about you. Go pretend it never happened, either go back to being friends or don't."
I looked over at her, "does he even want to be friends still?" She sighed, "Who knows."
Suddenly the door swung open, "I'm beat guys let's go to bed!" Sasha yawned before hoping on the top bunk of the bed Mikasa was on. I got up and blew out the candle,
"goodnight guys."
"Good night! See you guys tomorrow for breakfast!"
"Goodnight"
I tossed and I turned but my efforts were fruitless, my brain wouldn't let me sleep. I needed to get myself tired, I needed a good distraction. I pulled the covers off of myself trying to be as quiet as possible, throwing on some random outfit.
I tip toed to the door and slipped out into the hall. It was completely empty and dark except for the few lanterns that hung on the walls. When I went down stairs I could hear  a familiar voice, I smoke crept onto my face.
The perfect distraction.
I finally approached a doorway, I could head talking behind it but the door closed, only a small crack gave me a look inside.
I creeped the door open, but I don't think she noticed me. Hange's back was to me as she was leaning over a counter looking at something with a magnifying glass.
My heart warmed with nostalgia. I walked up behind her and looked over her shoulder, "what are you looking at, section commander?" Hange stoped and looked at me with wide eyes. Then she smothered me in a hug as we both fell to the floor, "RIIIN! RIN YOU'RE HERE! I KNEW YOU HAD TO BE HERE!"
I laughed and hugged her back, "It's good to be home." Hange stood up and helped me up too, "why are you still awake, did you need something?"
I shook my head, "no, I just can't sleep," I laughed.
Hange pulled up a stool and patted it, "Sit. Theirs so much you have to tell me."
I told them all about Eren, Armin and Mikasa. I also told her about Reiner and how he was probably my best friend. I told her about Jean too, I probably talked about him the longest. Aboht how we met by me having to break up a fight between him and Eren, about how Jean and I trained with our ODM gear that one night, when Jean confessed to me, about when I found out about Marco and about how i tried to kiss him. Hange loved talking but she was always a great listener, "I see. Well I don't know much about romance but I remember seeing you with this boy at the recruitment ceremony. The way he  had his arm around you, people don't do that for no reason. Also, Levi was talking to Erwin about this today too, he doesn't like him much and thinks you can do better. Your best bet is just to not worry about romance and just get along with everyone. Orrrr, if you like him that much then run up to that boy and tell him exactly how you feel and don't hold back!"
I smiled, taking in Hange's advice.
Shes right. Romance is over rated, I'm going to go tell Jean how I feel and then wash my hands of the whole thing. Getting it off my chest should make it easier to get over!
I stood up from the stool. "You're absolutely right. I'll do it first thing tomorrow. I'm just ready for all this to be over."
Hange jumped, "yes! yes Rin!" I laughed, she always made me smile even on my worst days.
I yawned, "I think I should go to bed." Hange smiled at me, "goodnight Rin."

I laid in bed feeling so much better. I actually felt like I could sleep now.
Tomorrow this crazy mess will be over. I'll wash my hands of all these feelings and move on with my career.

I woke up to Mikasa getting ready, I sat up and rubbed my eyes. Mikasa didn't pay me any attention, she just continued to put her shoes on, "Where did you go last night?"
How did she- I thought they were both asleep.
