The gap sensor went off, and the team and I raced off to where it was.

But this time, there was no nighlock.

Something happened and Jayden whirled around with an angry and distracted look on his face.

"What's wrong?" Emily asked.

"Thought I felt something watching me. It's gone now." Jayden shook his head.

It couldn't be jean, because she's dead. Proffessor X is far away in Manhattan and unless I'm manifesting again and new powers show up, this isn't a mutant cause. Cerebro? Possibly. But I do not believe so. Unless magneto broke in and corrupted Cerebro.... No, impossible, they're here, just in hiding. I thought to myself.

Kevin picked up the gap sensor. "I don't get it, nothing's wrong with it."

"Well, something must have triggered it." Mia sighed and stared at the gap sensor Kevin was holding.

"Let's go find out." Jayden ordered, and we ran back to the shiba house, leaving the gap sensor in it's original place.

"That was fairly short." Ji said.

"That's because it was nothing." Mike laughed dryly.

The noise of an arrow landing zoomed straight to my ears and my head whipped to the door. Jayden heard it too, and we both went outside to investigate.

It was an arrow with a hawk feather for a tail. A paper was attached to it.

We returned inside with the arrow.

Hawkeye? Impossible he's in New York. But no one has the talent of landing exactly on bullseye like Hawkeye does. This is odd... The only person with aim other than Hawkeye is Antonio but he moved away... unless...

"It just says, 'see you soon'." Jayden told them.

"What? A nighlock attack?" Mia asked.

"Not here at least. There are defensive symbols protecting the house." Ji shook his head.

"They're doing a good job, I mean, but someone shot this arrow." Mike observed.

"But no one has clear aim like that except for Hawkeye, and he's in New York..." I muttered quietly and all of them stared at me. "What? Superheroes can't get together?"

"It's unlikely." Kevin shrugged.

Mike sniffed the arrow. "There's something fishy about this."

"Obviously." Emily said sarcastically.

"No, there's really something fishy. Smell." Mike handed the arrow to Emily to sniff.

"Ugh! It smells like raw fish!" Emily crinkled her nose.

And from that moment on, I knew who the shooter was.

It was dark, to say the least.

The sun had gone down. We all had had dinner an hour before: ramen and noodles.

I was sketching.

It was a little early for Christmas, yes, but I needed a head start, even if it was October and the weather felt like late, hot summer.

So I was making the team's presents.

"AH!" I heard Jayden yell, and his samuraizer went off.

Shit.

I raced to Jayden's "study" (More like a little hangout room, but he never let us in there) and saw him. His back was facing towards me and his arm was aimed at...

Nothing.

It wasn't anything.

"Where. Are. You?" He growled.

Behind me the others arrived, sans Ji.

"What's going on?"

"Something's in here." He turned his head sharply, then walked over to the next room, and kept walking. We followed him with Mia and Emily following the three of us.

"There, did you feel that?"

He wasn't going crazy.

I knew the feeling, someone constantly watching you - that's why Cerebro freaked me out so much the first time it spotted me that I had a meltdown. Needless to say, my powers were not in check.

"No, what did you feel?" Kevin asked.

"Shh." Jayden put a finger to his lips and opens a door, ready to attack.

And....

A dummy fell out, knocking hard on the bamboo wood floor.

Emily screamed and Mia laughed.

"Don't scare us like that!" She said, giggling.

"I could have sworn there's something in here." Jayden shook his head.

"Dude, relax, there isn't anything in here." Mike chuckled.

"There is something definitely otherworldly in here. I sensed it." Jayden said, his face solemn.

Oh Ashlynn..... It's me, the dark pheonix.

"NO! YOU CANNOT TAKE ME AWAY!" I yelled loudly and the others jumped.

"Ash, what's going on?" Emily asked.

You know I will. Jean is not dead. I have her in my control. And Magneto is now in charge of her.

"I DON'T CARE! YOU'RE NOT TAKING ME AWAY LIKE JEAN, I WON'T LET YOU CONTROL ME, CONTROL HER! LEAVE ME BE, I SWEAR DARK PHOENIX, I MAY BE UNDER YOUR CONTROL ONE DAY, AND WHEN YOU DO, I ORDER YOU AT ONCE. DON'T. TOUCH. THEM!" I screamed aloud, and fell to the floor, knees dropping first.

"What on earth is going on in here?" Asked Ji.

"I'm a freak..." I whispered quietly, trying to hold myself before I pulled my knees up to my chest.

If I'm mad crazy, so be it.

But I can't let the rangers get into the battle that is mine to fight.

I can't put them at risk.

Jean put her whole life at risk.

Now, it's my turn.

A/N:

Okay, okay I know I'm a mad crazy person for just writing that because I'm mad at myself for that too.

But this builds Ashlynn, who she is, how broken she must seem... and it's hard.

She's doesn't want to put the rangers at risk, especially not Jayden. This was an important part to the story, so please, do not skip it.

But I beg of you, I promise with all of my dear heart that they will get together, soon. I have the date planned and everything, I just need one of the episodes to fit it in... Maybe the very end of season one, (christmas) but probably at the beginning of season two. Shout out to Shipper249 for reading this and commenting on this, I know you ship Jayden and Ash together hard, I do too, but I've decided to torture you, my dear reader, in hopes that you'll read more.

Please forgive me for the anxiety of the ship, I promise it will be all aboard soon!
