Tomorrow was definitely going to be exciting. It's Emily's Birthday!

Its her first birthday here, and her first without her sister or her family. We wanted to make something special for her, so we cleared out one of the rooms at the Shiba house to decorate for a surprise party.

Mia hadn't cooked the food (and thank god, because I've tasted her cooking before) and instead we bought the cake from the bakery and the rest from the store.

I couldn't get Emily a present because, although we seem to be best friends, I didn't have a clue what to get her. Maybe a haiku would do.

I was the guard for the room, and I didn't mind. I'm awfully clumsy with things, so decorating isn't my style.

The gap sensor rang loudly throughout the house.

 A nighlock, crap, not again. Emily's life is gonna be put in jeopardy right before her birthday! I thought to myself, but didn't say a word. The four (who were in the room I was guarding) ran out the door. I closed it behind them. It wasn't my battle to fight, but I had a bad feeling that something was about to change for the worse.

I paced back and forth in the hallway. Oh, where were they? Something was wrong. Very, very wrong.

"Ashlynn, please calm down, they're fine." Ji reassured me. Whoops, I guess I said my thoughts out loud.

"I just know they aren't."I protested, and kept on pacing.

"They are."

"I lived with a telepath, I have this weird thing in my gut that always tells me when something is wrong, and right now, something is very wrong so don't you dare tell me to calm down!" I shouted.

Ji shook his head. "Patience is a virtue, Ms. Diaz."

"Wise guy advice is not going to help right now." I snapped.

"What will make you calm down?"

"I haven't been calm ever since I've become who I am now, so please stop trying to make me relax because it will definitely not work on me."

"Ah, here they are." Ji said, and I stared at the door as they walked in with morose faces.

"This is why I'm never calm." I hissed at Ji. Because in Mike's arms, Emily lay, unconscious.
