Footsteps.

"Come on!"

"Mia! What's going on?"

Two female voices growing louder and louder.

This was going to be an awesome surprise.

"What is all this?" Emily asked, her eyes zooming everywhere.

1...
2...
3!

I leapt out with the guys. "Happy birthday!" We shouted in unison, throwing our hands up in the air. Jayden looked beyond cute. Emily's face lit up. If possible, it was the happiest I had ever seen her.

"Thank you!" Emily exclaimed as Mike gently took her hand and lead her to an empty seat.

"Wow, the cake looks amazing. Did you bake it?" Emily asked and looked up at Mia nervously.

"No, I'm sorry, this is from the bakery." Mia sighed.

"Its okay, you were busy!" Emily smiled.

"Happy birthday to Clawzord... What?" Kevin asked as Antonio placed the cake in front of Emily.

"Its his birthday too." Antonio shrugged.

"Make a wish, Marigold." I grinned.

Emily thought for a moment then blew out the candles.

"Here, let's start with the gifts." Jayden suggested.

Emily got a lot of stuff. And as I remembered my haiku, I knew it wasn't enough, but it was something.

"Marigold, I didn't get much, but here's something small. A haiku." I took a deep breath.

"A yellow warrior
Kind. Brave. Beautiful as
Her name. Emily." I recited.

"That was beautiful, thank you Ashlynn." Emily smiled.

"Ji said Ashlynn, you and I could have a small sleepover in your room if you wanted." Mia suggested.

"So in other words we get kicked out of Emily's room?" Mike asked.

"Something like that." A smile played on my lips.

"Then its a guys night for us." Mike cheered.

As soon as we cleaned up, we went to Emily's room.

"Okay, time for some girl talk." Mia rubbed her hands together.

"Oh no." I shook my head.

"Crushes. You all know I'm dating Kevin." Mia started.

"And you know that I like Mike, since its pretty obvious." Emily shrugged.

"So that just leaves..." Their eyes landed on me. "You."

"Do you like anyone here?" Emily asked innocently.

I knew I was blushing, and really hard.

"Its possible that I fancy someone here."

"Jayden." They both said in unison.

"I'm not in love, I can't be in love, I can't be in a relationship." I shook my head.

"Has he asked you out?" Mia poked.

"No."

"Has he done or said anything special?"

"He tried to give me a flirtatious wink when I first met him. Umm... The other day at the park he said he cared about me." I looked down at my fingers, which were intertwining again.

"Aww!" Emily smiled. "You two are destined to be together."

"No. No, no, no. I won't say I'm in love." I shook my head.

"I bet he likes you back. Say it." Mia dared me.

"I'm in love with Jayden Shiba." I muttered.

"HA! You admitted it!" Emily shouted.

"You bloody bastards!" I yelled.

"You love us!" Mia yelled back and laughed, throwing her head back.

"Oh, wait! Em, I have to show you something. Ash, can you go out into the kitchen for a sec?" Mia asked kindly after glancing down at her phone.

"I'll get some tea." I nodded and walked out. I was in a T-shirt and leggings. Perfect.

The kitchen wasn't empty, and Ji was there, reading an old archive. However, when I got there, he left and wished me goodnight.

Jayden stumbled into the kitchen, and into... Me.

"Hey." He breathed out.

"Hey." I replied. We were both breathing heavily.

I turned around, my back facing him.

"What brings you to the kitchen at this late hour?" I asked, pouring some water into the tea pot and grabbing a tea bag from the pantry.

"Snacks." He shrugged nonchalantly, obviously lying. "But now I'm thinking there's a different reason to all of this."

"The lousy bastards set us up." I shook my head. "Right place, right time."

"Yeah."

I couldn't meet his eyes.

I've never met a boy's eyes before.

They say once you look into them, you fall instantly.

I didn't want to fall.

Yet I was already.

"What's going on with you and the golden boys?" I asked sarcastically.

"Haha, very funny. Mike's challenging us to video games. You?"

"The girls are torturing me."

"One and the same huh?"

"Yeah."

My tea was ready. I poured some into a mug.

"So I was wondering if sometime you'd maybe.... I mean, only if you want to... Take a walk on the beach? Or something? Its okay if you say no..." He stuttered.

He was stuttering. I made him like this. Oh god. When did this make Jayden Shiba, The Red Ranger so nervous over someone like me?

"Then if this is your first date then yes." I smiled. "Sometime when we're not saving the world."

"That's over with." He let out a breath I hadn't noticed he was holding.

"Yeah." I laughed. "Goodnight, Jayden."

I left the kitchen and into Emily's room where they waited anxiously.

"Well?" Emily asked expectantly, smirking.

"He asked me out."
