It was the city swap meet. Emily, Mike and I had promised to go to Antonio's booth and taste some of his fish. I already knew that his fish was good, but I couldn't wait to see their faces.

"It's a beautiful day for a picnic." Emily said dreamily.

"Yeah, thanks for inviting us, Antonio!" Mike grinned. I smiled.

"I can't wait to see what you're cooking up for us." I leaned closer to Antonio and muttered that.

"My pleasure. But it's going to be your pleasure once you taste this burger."

Slash.

A guy got on his knees and looked like he was holding a burger. He was frozen in a trance, or something. The daily dickhead of the day... Great.

"What is up with that guy?" Antonio muttered. Crap.

Slash.

A biker got on his hands and knees.

"Maybe they're doing yoga." Mike suggested nervously.

"Guys... I think there's something wrong." Emily said, getting up from her seat. Mike followed.

I looked back at Antonio.

He was the next victim. He lay down on the ground on his side. What did that resemble?

The fish.

This was not good.

"You guys go and fight, I'll see what I can observe from this new dickhead." I said, and we ran off in different directions.

I turned into a crow and flew above them.

"Go help those people, I got this." Mike said, and Emily ran over to a woman and shook her. No response.

"They're in a trance or something!" Emily exclaimed. Just as I predicted.

"WAKE THEM UP!" Mike yelled.

The nighlock shrugged. "Nah, I don't think so."

I didn't even pay attention to what the nigh lock looked like, but you know the lego lion figure from lego chima? The nighlock had two of the same head as the chima figure - one upside down, one right side up.

"WAKE. THEM. UP!" Mike shouted and started attacking the nighlock. He defended easily, even when it was Emily and Mike vs. him.

When the two fell to the ground, the nighlock snarled. "Too easy."

The other three showed up, and started attacking the new dickhead as well. "Surprise!" Jayden shouted. Finally.

A pointed finger touched Jayden right at the chest, and the other rangers were held back. Another pointed finger touched a garden gnome, and there was a flash.

"Time to make a switch." Switch blast said, and I couldn't help but fly overhead.

Jayden demorphed, and turned into the pose that the gnome was in. Great, now I have a garden gnome as my boyfriend.

I switched to the telepathy chat I had Jayden on and started shouting in my mind as loud as I could. "Jayden? JAYDEN!"

No response.

Faintly, I heard, "Ash, I'm okay, don't worry about me, I'm okay!" The connection was lost.

I flew away. I had to get away before it hurt me too much.

***

I had to get home at some point, so when I did, I wanted to break down crying.

Jayden was a garden gnome, Mia was a fan, Kevin (oddly enough) was a ballerina music box, and Antonio was a fish.

Emily tapped on the gnomes hat. "Do you think they're... Awake in there?"

Strong connection came into my mind. It was a mixture of Jayden's, Mia's, Kevin's and Antonio's voices.

WE'RE AWAKE! They shouted. WE HEAR YOU!

I fell to my knees and held my head. "ARGH!" I said out loud.

"Ashlynn?" Emily rushed over to me. "Are you okay?"

"They're... They're awake, and they're probably safer now." I looked at the inanimate objects. "A little warning, next time? You shouted loud and clear in my mind, and it bloody hurt."

Sorry, Ash. Jayden's voice whispered in my mind. Is that better?

"Better." I looked at the garden gnome. "So much better."

How can you hear us? Jayden shouted again.

"BLOODY HELL!" I yelled. "Would you stop shouting? I can hear you because of telepathy, stupid." I walked over to the still Jayden and smacked him upside the head.

Could you not? Jayden asked.

"Could you not be any more stupid?" I retorted.

Hey, at least you can hear us. Antonio said.

Back and forth. And back and forth. Mia said calmly. Who knew being a fan would be so BORING?

"Remind me to shut up, will you?" I grumbled.

"I think if the object gets destroyed, the person does too." Mike said.

Jayden started yelling again. WHAT? I WILL NOT BE KILLED THAT EASILY.

"Quieting you." I muttered, and the voices were muted.

"Perhaps if you defeat the nighlock, then everyone will be free." Ji said. Like I didn't already know that.

"Then we'll have to train hard. Until the nighlock comes again." Emily looked at Mike.

"Sounds like a plan." Mike said, and the two raced off.

"And I'll be at the park, pretending I don't exist." I mumbled, then flew off.

***

After the battle, I raced straight home, longing to be in Jayden's arms again.

I crashed straight into him, and he looked down with his arms open, surprised I could run that fast.

"Please don't ever do that again." I mumbled into his chest. "Please tell me that you won't."

"I don't think we'll ever encounter him, no." Jayden told me, chuckling. "You missed me that much?"

"I'm your girlfriend, I'm supposed to." I replied.

"If it weren't for Mike and Emily, I'd still be a gnome. Can I get some food?" Jayden asked, laughing. I pulled away from him and blushed scarlet red.

"Yeah, um, sure. I'll come with."

Mike pulled up a photo of Kevin, in his ballerina pose, wearing a tu-tu. Everyone laughed except Kevin. "So, you're not even mad about this?" Mike showed it to Kevin.

His eyes widened. "You took PICTURES?!" Kevin asked, and started chasing Mike around the courtyard.

I still had a feeling of uneasiness.
