Chapter 40

Aislin

I set foot in the forest with Vincent and instantly smell a human, “Do you have a plan?” I ask him.

“Approach the human and see if they can take us to the city because we were lost.” He responds. We slowly walk towards the origin of the scent; we find a small girl walking in the forest with blood on her clothes. She had red eyes that you could see in the dark. She would stumble every now and then but eventually reached where we were.

“Hi, are you lost?” I asked.

She nods her head yes.

“Where are your parents?”

She shrugs her shoulders.

“Why do you have blood on your night shirt?”

She smiles and shows us her fangs, “You’re shifters.” She points at us.

Vincent blocks me from her view and shifts into a wolf. He claws at her as I join in we tear her limb from limb. The girl didn’t even fight back; I kind of felt bad but she was a vampire and if Tarum got a whiff of one of those he would do worse. We shift back to human and put on our clothes; Vincent turns to me, “Are you okay?”

“Yea just kind of shocked,” I respond.

“Tarum would have done worse.” He replies knowing I just thought that. We were mates but Zo didn’t approve of mates working together. He didn’t even approve of Vincent at all.

I nod my head knowing that was the truth I look up to see another little girl farther off into the distance behind Vincent. She uses her vampire speed to get behind him. I push Vincent out of the way so the little girl can’t sink her teeth into him.

“You killed my sister!” The little girl was in an attack position with one arm down touching the ground and the other off to the side. “Now I’ll kill you!” She jumps up and lands on Vincent’s shoulders as if he was giving her a piggy back ride. She puts her hands on both sides of his head ready to snap his neck and kill him instantly. I run towards her before she tries anything; Vincent doesn’t even know what is happening; but he soon catches up he flips her in front of him and drop kicks her. I smile remembering that Vincent loved to wrestle. But I focus back onto what was happening; I see another girl appear with a knife in her hand. I push her to the ground and take the knife making sure it was silver. Sadly it wasn’t so I couldn’t kill her but I had my gun with me a take it out and place the double barrel right by her temple. I pull the trigger as blood flies everywhere. I turn to Vincent and the little girl but to my surprise they are nowhere in sight. I find an older woman probably the mother of the family. I ready my gun but it is taken from my hands; I hear her laughter off in the distance but she appears behind me and I can feel her breathing on me. I turn to see her devilish smile I pull out a large knife and stab it right into her stomach. She covers the wound and drops to the forest floor. She looks at her hands to see the blood; pulling out the knife and looking at me with it in her hand.

She gets up, “For Isabel and Anne!” She drives towards me with the knife angled towards me but I dodged her and shot her in the head.

I go by her and pick up the knife knowing the dad of the family can’t be too far away. Vincent crashes to the ground with the small girl on top of him he rolls her off of him. I aim my gun but she moves in front of me I shoot towards the target that was once her. Vincent runs up to her and grabs her foot making her fall to the ground she screams and kicks. As I am pushed to the ground on top of me is the father of the family, “Don’t you touch my daughter.” He says to me as he lowers the knife to me. I thought for sure he would have cut open my neck but he moved to my arm and began to cut into it. I screamed from the pain but he kept cutting my arm. He soon moved onto the next arm. I heard a scream farther away I had hoped it was Vincent’s. The vampire on top of me finished and looked into my eyes he lowered his mouth to my neck and was about to bite me. But Vincent pushed him off of me I got up quickly and found my gun I aimed it towards the vampire and pulled the trigger but the bullets didn’t come out. I didn’t have any extras on me so I took a knife and walked towards the vampire but he had disappeared.
