OLIVIA
"I can't believe you're leaving in a few days, D! Has it already been a month and a half?" Patience told Darnell.
"I was supposed to stay a month, Patience. I only stayed longer because of Liv, but I can't keep taking my classes online."
She frowned upon hearing Darnell's justification, because she knew it was more than reasonable.
"It's just a lot more fun with you around!" She confessed.
Darnell laughed at her confession while I shook my head at them. I was finally back at my house with the girls after spending a much needed month being taken care of by my parents.
Christopher was locked up and I was trying not to think of anything related to him, even though I still felt chills being around the house. Coach Garett had been confirmed as his uncle, but they were estranged for years, and it was not an amicable separation from what we heard.
My mother's speculation was that Christopher saw the news of his uncle getting fired and dug a little deeper, before finding my connection to the article. Being his crazy self, he must have formed a fantasy about the woman who helped take down the uncle he disliked so much.
Just thinking about it made my skin curl. I hated imagining all the things he would have done to me if not for the boys intervening that night.
"At least you'll get to attend my dad's celebration party. It could not have happened without you." I told my friend.
The truth was that I apprehended Darnell leaving, because aside from Noah, he was the one I hung out the most with after the incident. Not having him around was going to be hard.
We were at the house waiting for everyone to get here for our game night. The last one we had was on the anniversary of my sobriety and everyone was just busy after that.
"Is Noah coming?" Darnell asked as our friends started arriving.
"I didn't invite him... I figured it was only for our group of friends. Plus, I don't want any tension with anyone. We've seen what new people do to this bunch."
"You mean the new people you bring over... Jaymee and Alicia are cool."
I glared at him with a playful look, pretending to be offended. I knew he was only teasing me just like he had been doing since he'd been back. Most people might have been surprised to see Darnell and I this close, but he was the only one of Spencer's friends who had reached out to me to know how I was really doing after the breakup.
At a time when everyone gave me space, he was the only one who knew that all I wanted was to have a listening ear. And that's what he had been to me, even from afar.
Simone was dealing with her own stuff with the whole Jordan situation, and I didn't want to add up to it.
"Do you know if Spencer is bringing her tonight?" I asked him.
"Doesn't look like it from where I'm standing."
I detached my gaze from Darnell, towards the door, only to see Spencer walk in with Coop. Alicia was clearly nowhere to be seen.
