SPENCER

"Spencer, please say something." She pleaded as I sat there, feeling numb.

I did not understand. I could not understand. I needed her to be a lot more specific for me to comprehend.

"Olivia, I don't understand. What did you just say?"

She drew another breath out.

"I- I found out that I was pregnant, when I was in Germany." She repeated.

I finally looked at her, trying to make sure that she was standing in front of me and that I was not having one of those nonsensical dreams.

"What do you mean, pregnant? Olivia..." I looked at her belly.

I guess she saw me staring at it because she promptly moved her hands in front of her face in a dismissive way.

"I'm not anymore!" She cleared up.

My eyes searched for hers, feeling even more confused at what she actually meant. She avoided them.

"I mean... I lost the baby. I lost my baby." She explained softly.

I could not move. I was terrified at how my body would give up on me if I did, so I just sat there and listened. With my heart breaking a little more at every other sentence she uttered.

"I was extremely exhausted the day we landed in Berlin, but Darnell and I assumed it was due to jet lag. When I kept having body aches the entire week, we started getting worried but thought I just needed some fresh air to feel better, so we went to visit the city a little bit." She started.

She took a quick sip of her water every now and then, as if her throat kept getting dry. What she was telling me was too heavy for me to interject.

"When we came back from the walk... Ahem... I felt an excruciating pain in my abdomen, so we rushed to the emergencies. Fast forward to the nurse asking me a bunch of questions about my last intercourse and running some tests. That's how, two hours after getting to the hospital, I learned that I was pregnant..." Her voice broke a little. "But also... that... that I was going through a miscarriage." She stated.

At that point I was petrified. I knew that I was supposed to stand up, take her in my arms and console her, but I did not move.

"Olivia..." I said, almost in a whisper.

I could see her shaking in front of me, having to hold herself to stay still. Sitting there, I remembered one detail that I still didn't have.

"How did Darnell react to the news?" I asked.

"Well... he was shocked, to say the least. But he was of great support through the entire process." She explained.

It was already a hard pill to swallow hearing that your brother and the woman you love got together, but knowing that a child was made, and unfortunately lost, through that connection was almost unbearable. More than being upset at her or Darnell, I was deeply hurt by the revelation she had just made.

"He urged me to tell you immediately, but I was already dealing with that huge loss and I didn't know how to tell you from afar. I could not bare to make you suffer the same pain I was feeling at that moment. So don't be too mad at him for helping me keep the secret. Knowing how much you want to be a dad, he understood that hearing that you lost your first one would have been too big of a shock for you and I-"
