(Y/N)'s PoV
I opened my eyes only to be greeted by the blinding sun rays that shone through the window. My eyes hurt. They probably looked terrible from all that crying. The thought of anyone seeing me in this state made me cringe. But there was nothing I could have done about now anyways.
I sat up and sighed. If I was in the Knights of Favonius Headquarters, this would be an exhausting day full of answering questions.
"I should just go back to sleep..." I muttered under my breath, rubbing my temples.
Despite my wish, I threw my legs over the bed's edge and slipped into my shoes that were neatly placed on the ground.
"At least they didn't undress me without my permission." I looked down at my torn-up clothes, furrowing my eyebrows, "Wait... those clothes are unfamiliar. Yes, I wore them yesterday. But those definitely aren't from my wardrobe."
I heard a knock on the door. Whoever had knocked entered the room without waiting for my reply. A girl dressed in red and brown stood there, wearing a cheerful expression. Her brown eyes were shining with delight as they met mine. She walked over to me, the red bow on top of her head bouncing up and down.
I clutched my chest. This bundle of joy was too much for my poor heart.
"Good morning!" She greeted me with a warm smile, "I'm Amber. I am a part of the Knights of Favonius. I brought you some new clothes since yours are pretty torn up."
She handed me a small pile of clothes and took a step back.
"Thanks," I replied with a faint smile.
"Once you are done, meet me in front of your room," Amber said with a grin and hurried outside, closing the door behind her.
So much positive energy.
I undressed and put on the new clothes Amber had brought me. After I was done, I examined myself in the mirror.
A white blouse with a gray belt and light brown shorts.
"Well, not exactly my style, but I can bear with it for now," I muttered, fumbling with the shirt's hem.
I turned around and hurried toward the door, pushing it open.
"Ah!" Amber yelped in surprise as the door swung open with too much momentum, smashing it against the wall.
"I'm sorry! It wasn't on purpose. The door looked heavier than it was, so I put a bit too much strength into opening it." I apologized, bowing down.
"D-don't worry. No one was injured. Besides, it's still intact." Amber sputtered out, waving her hands in front of her.
"Still, I'm sorry," I muttered, raising my head again.
Amber sighed in defeat.
"Let's get going. The Acting Grand Master wants to meet you." She said, pushing the door topic aside.
"Guess I don't have a choice there," I mumbled, scratching the back of my head.
It was time to face my nemesis. She was the reason Kazuha, Venti, and Nahida didn't come home when I pulled for them. I would have flipped my table if I had lost Wanderer to her too.
"Okay. We are here." Amber spoke up as we found ourselves in front of Jean's office, "I can't accompany you any further. I'm rather busy today. But I'm sure you will be fine on your own. If there is anything you need help with, don't hesitate to ask Kaeya."
"No!"
"See you soon!" Amber waved me goodbye before she hurried away.
And just like that, she was gone. My emotional support was gone.
"Let's get this over with," I whispered and knocked on the door.
"Come in." A soft female voice called from the other side.
I pushed the door open. This time, more carefully. Once I entered the room, the door closed with a click.
Jean was sitting at her desk, scanning the never-ending pile of papers.
I stood there, fumbling with the sleeves of my jacket. The woman raised her head to look at me.
"Ah, I'm sorry, I am busy with paperwork." She apologized with a soft smile.
I returned her smile with a fake one. I could tell that this was going to be a Q&A session, and I wouldn't say I liked it.
"My name is Jean. I am the Acting Grandmaster of the Favonius Knights. It is my duty to keep Mondstadt safe. Bennet and Razor brought you here since you were injured. And my sister treated your wounds. But your origins are unknown to us. Judging by the outfit you wore, you don't seem to be from around here. You don't look like a bad person to me, though. So I'd like to get to know you better before I decide on further actions." The blonde explained, resting her head on her palms.
I nodded. I had to think my answers through if I didn't want to be kicked out of this town.
"Alright." Jean spoke up with a calm smile, "What's your name?"
"(Y/N)."
"Where are you from?"
I gulped. Jean already knows I'm not from around here, but could I possibly tell her that I'm not from this world? Well, lying wouldn't have gotten me anywhere. But the part of me having eventually died isn't something anyone needed to know.
"Earth," I replied, scratching the back of my head.
"Excuse me?" Jean gave me a confused look.
"I'm from the Earth. That's what my home world is called."
Not sure how to reply to that, the woman rubbed her temples.
"Okay," she sighed, seeming to believe my story for now, "Why are you here in Teyvat then?"
"I don't know," I replied with a sigh.
"You don't know?"
I shook my head. I probably sounded like I was crazy.
"All I remember is walking home from a meeting. I don't know how I ended up in this world." I explained, lowering my head. "If I could, I wouldn't hesitate to return home. I miss my family."
Silence. Jean didn't say anything. The silence felt heavy and uncomfortable. But I didn't know what else to say. All I could do was wait for an answer.
A heavy sigh finally broke the silence after what felt like forever.
"What you are telling me is hard to believe. But I can't think of a reason for you to make up such a bizarre story. So, I'll trust you. You may reside in Mondstadt as long as you wish to." Jean said with a warm smile.
"Thank you so much," I replied with a bright smile.
"But, you are unfamiliar with this world. You even got injured back in Wolvendom. So it'd be in your best interest not to carelessly roam outside these walls unless you are able to defend yourself." She warned me.
"Actually... If I had a bow, dealing with smaller monsters shouldn't be a problem. I've been taking archery lessons since I was five. Well, I've never fought monsters before, but it can't be that difficult as long as I don't miss." I explained with a reassuring smile.
Jean gave me a conflicted look.
"I can't force you to stay inside this town. It would defy Mondstadts' ideal of Freedom." She sighed, "I'll talk to Amber. She shall get you a weapon and test your skills. Until then, I'd appreciate it if you don't leave the town."
"Alright," I nodded in agreement, "Thank you for everything. And sorry for causing you trouble."
"You don't need to thank me," Jean replied warmly. "If you'd excuse me now. I still have a lot of work I need to finish. Feel free to explore the town on your own."
"Okay, thank you." I smiled and slightly bowed down before leaving the office.
Once outside, I let out a heavy sigh. I couldn't believe it. I was free to do as I wished. Well, as long as I didn't cause trouble.
I walked down the hallway straight toward the front door, looking forward to getting some fresh air.
I pushed the enormous wooden door open and skipped down the stairs. I was excited, despite being trapped inside this world. I was able to explore Mondstadt in real life. I could stroll through the city on my own. That's something I often wished for while playing this game: experiencing Teyvat firsthand.
Even though I was never there myself, I knew this town like the back of my hand.
I strolled through the streets. Past Good Hunter and the Cat's Tail, down the stairs.
"Wait..." I stopped in my tracks, crossing my arms, "Where is the traveler? It's obvious that I am inside the game. But how far into the game am I? Did they already finish Mondstadt's chapter? What if they are already in Sumeru?!"
As my mind started to panic, I hurried down the street toward Angel's Share. I got closer to the front door, where the bulletin board was.
"What? Where is the missing person flyer that kept me from entering the tavern first try? Are you telling me that the traveler hasn't arrived yet?! Okay, that's not that bad. I'll spend some time in Mondstadt until they arrive. So-"
Suddenly the door flung open.
"Get out!" Before I could react, someone harshly collided with me, sending me tumbling over.
"Ugh." I groaned as I found myself lying on the hard cobblestone street.
I heard the door slam shut and sat up, rubbing the back of my head. My stay in Teyvat wasn't as harmless as I had hoped.
"Are you alright?" A voice called out to me.
I looked up, noticing a hand reaching out to me.
"Don't worry. I had worse incidents this week." I sighed and took ahold of the person's hand.
I was pulled upwards. Once standing, I looked at the person who caused me to fall in the first place.
In front of me was a boy with back hair. He had two short braids on either side of his head that faded into blue.
"I've never seen you here before. My name's Venti. Sorry for being pushed into you like this. Hehe~" He apologized with a grin, shaking my hand that he still hadn't let go.
"I'm (Y/N). And like I said before, it's no big deal." I introduced myself with a soft smile.
"Well, I'm glad you are forgiving." The bard finally let go of my hand, "Say, (Y/N), what brings you to Mondstadt?"
Clutching my now free hand around my upper arm, I let out another sigh.
"Err, well, that's kinda hard to explain."
"That sounds like an interesting story~," Venti looked at me with curiosity.
"Complicated isn't necessarily interesting." I sweatdropped.
"As the listener, I'm the one to judge that. Hehe~"
I looked at him, debating if I should punch him or call it a defeat.
"How about I treat you to a glass of wine, and you tell me your story." He interrupted my thought with a grin, "Or something else if you aren't old enough for alcohol."
"Didn't you just get kicked out?" I asked, raising an eyebrow in confusion.
"Ah, that's because they are cleaning the tavern, and I might have slept on one of the tables. Hehe~" The bard explained with a sheepish grin.
"I see..."
"Let's meet up in the tavern tonight." He said, not expecting an answer, "You may join me whenever you have time. I'll be waiting.~"
Before I could protest, he was already on his way to who knows where.
As I was about to leave, a gust of wind brushed past me, leaving a trail of turquoise, glowing sheen behind. I rubbed my eyes, hoping that I was hallucinating. But that wasn't the case.
"Am I seeing elemental traces? How is this possible? I don't have a vision."
I carefully reached out to one of the glowing specks of light. Suddenly the elemental particle was absorbed by my hand. For a second, my body was flooded with energy before the feeling disappeared again.
"Jep, that's strange. I don't think I will do that again. Even though it felt kinda cool." I whispered, crossing my arms.
I turned around and began walking back toward the town's square. Only now, I noticed the amount of Anemo energy inside this town. Elemental particles were floating everywhere in the air. For some reason, I could feel the energy that surrounded my body. It felt refreshing.
I arrived at the adventure guild's stall, where Katheryne was standing.
"Hello." I greeted her with a warm smile.
"Ad astra abyssosque! Welcome to the Adventurers' Guild." She greeted me back with a soft expression.
"I'm (Y/N). Do you know if Bennet has set out on an expedition for today? I want to thank him for helping me."
"Sorry. But it seems like he did leave for one today." She replied with a troubled expression.
"Oh, I see. Alright. Thank you anyway." I muttered before turning around and taking my leave.
"Farewell."
If I wanted to thank Bennet, I needed to wait for him to return. But just standing around and waiting would've been boring, so I continued my tour.
I went up the stairs that led toward Good Hunter. My eyes landed on the restaurant. It smelled delicious.
"I don't have any money!" I screamed inside my head.
I sighed. I was hungry and had no money. Doing small commissions would have been an easy way to earn some Mora, but I can't leave the town.
"Klee! Watch out!" A voice yelled.
I felt someone running into me.
"This feels like a Deja Vu." I thought as I was about to face the hard street once again.
Suddenly someone took hold of my wrist, stopping me from falling. I felt myself being pulled back up, bringing me onto my feet.
"Are you alright?" A calm male voice asked, bringing me back to my senses that had left me after my near-death experience.
"Well, I'm alive." I joked, crossing my arms.
"That's good to hear." The blonde male gave me a soft smile.
"I'm really sorry! Please don't be mad." Klee apologized, close to tears.
"Don't worry. It was just an accident, right? Accidents like these happen from time to time." I replied, hoping that the little girl won't start crying.
"Really? You are not mad?"
I gave her a reassuring smile. The girl's red eyes sparkled with glee.
"We are lucky that no one was injured. But please be more careful in the future, Klee." The young man sighed, seemingly troubled.
"Yeah..." She muttered, crossing her arms behind her back.
"My name's Albedo, by the way. And that's my little sister, Klee." The blonde introduced himself.
"(Y/N)." I replied with a soft smile.
I was glad that I already knew all their names. It would have been a pain to remember all those faces in one day.
"(Y/N)." Klee suddenly called out, holding something in her arms.
"Yes?" I asked, crouching down to her height.
"This is for you. It's a sorry gift." She smiled at me as she handed me one of her bombs. "Don't worry. It won't explode. It has no fuse."
"A-alright. Thank you." I accepted her gift, begging the Archons that this bomb doesn't explode.I gave her head a light head-pat before standing up again.
"WHOAA!" Klee suddenly yelled, staring at me with fascination.
"W-what?" I looked at her, shocked.
"Your eyes are awesome!"
"My eyes? What's with my eyes?" Bewildered, I reached for my eyes.
"Your eyes were (e/c), but then they turned red. And now they are back to (e/c)." The girl explained, seemingly amazed."Huh?" I gave her a puzzled look.
She suddenly grabbed my hand, her eyes shining with anticipation. I felt my body being flooded with energy. Similar to when I came in contact with the Anemo particle.
"Albedo, look!" Klee jumped up and down with excitement. "Their eyes are red again."
Klee's words seemed to have piqued Albedo's interest. For he started eyeing me up.
I sweatdropped, already knowing where this was going.
