2nd POV
Despite your mind telling you that it was a bad idea, you accompanied Albedo to the Frostbearing Tree during nighttime.
It was a starry night, making it easier to see in the dark.
Yet, it was cold. The freezing air made your lungs burn painfully. The warm Pyro Energy, the Core crystals in your bag emitted, made the cold bearable. Well, at least to some extent.
"Are you alright?" Albedo asked, glancing at your freezing form.
"It's freezing and the Pyro Energy barely helps." You replied, burying your hands in your pockets.
The alchemist stopped in his tracks and turned around.
"You are seemingly more sensitive to cold temperature than most humans. Neither Timaeus, Klee, nor Sucrose seem to have as much trouble as you do." He pointed out.
You sighed, "I'm simply not used to cold climates. Everything below ten degree Celsius is too cold for me."
"Well, I hope you don't intend to visit Snezhnaya then. You would surely freeze to death there." The blonde replied with a blunt expression, crossing his arms.
You laughed, "Anyone who wants me to go to this place will have to drag me there by force."
Before Albedo was able to reply, you felt something move beneath the snow. Alarmed, you grabbed your bow and shot an arrow into the ground.
The blonde suddenly yanked you away as a Cryo Whopperflower shot out from the ground, barely missing you.
He summoned his sword, "Let's see how good you can use your ability in combat."
Icicles shoot out from the ground, forcing you to jump out of the way.
"I'd prefer Slimes or Hilichurls for my first time." You complained as you shoot an arrow at the monster.
"Don't worry. I'll step in once your life is in danger." Albedo reassured with a calm expression, taking a few steps back.
You sighed as you dodged yet another attack and countered with an arrow. The Whopperflower began to glow, notifying you that it was about to use a charged attack. You aimed another arrow at it. Focusing, you absorbed Pyro Energy from one of the crystals and infused it into the arrow's tip, setting it ablaze. The flaming arrow soared through the air, and hit the monster, causing its shield to break.
It was stunned.
Not hesitating, you repeated the process with the following attacks. Finally landing a critical hit, the Whopperflower dropped to the ground and disintegrated into thin air.
"You did a pretty good job for the first time." Albedo praised you.
"It's great that I can use it to cause Elemental Reaction, but it isn't useful for longer battles." You replied, showing him the now dull Core Crystals, "It's limited to the Elemental Energy I can absorb. I don't have a Vision with unlimited amount of it. So, I will have to keep numerous Core Crystals with me."
"So, you seem to know how your ability works and how to make use of it. Well, if what you say is true, then will indeed be difficult for you to fight for a longer period of time. For now, using Core Crystals to store the Energy might be the easiest solution. But it isn't the best. The amount of Energy they can store isn't unlimited and will be quickly deplete during fights. You might consider looking for a device that can store a huge amount of Energy. " Albedo explained, seeming to think hard about it.
Reaching out, you absorbed the Cryo Orb, it left behind, and infused it into one of the Crystals.
"Do you need some Whopperflower-Nectar?" You asked, holding it out to the Alchemist.
He didn't reply, seeming to be lost in a train of thoughts. Sweatdropping, you dropped the bottle of Nectar into your bag and put your weapon away.
Trying to get the male's attention, you waved your hands in front of his face, "So, we are still going to the Frostbearing Tree? Or do you want to go back?"
"Ah, yes. Sorry. Let's go." Albedo replied, still engrossed in his thoughts.
You sighed, shaking your head.
"Let's just go back to your base. I'm cold and tired. Using this ability of mine is more exhausting than expected." You pointed out with a smile, "Let's just check out the tree another time."
Without thinking about it, you took a hold of his wrist and pulled him along, not wanting to hear his reply.
You trudged through the deep snow, toward his camp.
"Your hand is cold." Albedo spoke up after a while, causing you to glance back at him.
"Of course they are. It's-" Suddenly realizing that you were still holding on to his wrist, you pulled your hand away, "I'm sorry."
"It's alright." He replied with a smile, "It didn't bother me at all."
His words didn't make you feel any less awkward. If anything, they worsened it.
"Still, I apologize for acting so carelessly." You mumbled under your breath, turning your head away, as you continued strolling up the mountain.
"What's the matter with your sudden change of tone?" Albedo asked curious, catching up with you.
You averted your eyes, "I don't know what you're talking about."
"The way you are talking right now is different. Until now, your words were usually direct and blunt. But now they seem less confident. Are you embarrassed?" He pointed out observing you.
"How did you come to that conclusion?" You asked sarcastically.
Unsurprisingly, he didn't catch up on your sarcasm, "Well, humans often start acting more shyly when they are. Occasionally, their face might even flush red, just like your cheeks did."
His response made you chuckle. It was funny to you that he was explaining his assumption in such a serious way.
"Looks like we are back." You pointed out, once standing in front of the camp's entrance, skillfully changing the topic.
You hurried over to the nearly burnt down fireplace, trying to grasp onto the left-over Pyro particles. Absorbing them, you filled one of the Core Crystals with the energy. You piled some wood onto the ashes and infused it with the energy you had just absorbed, setting it ablaze.
"Hah. I won't have to struggle with starting a fire ever again, as long as I have some Pyro energy with me. Fire emits a large amount of energy, but doesn't need much energy to start burning, since it will grow bigger on its own."
"I'm somewhat jealous. Your ability is rather convenient." Albedo mused, as he watched you starting the fire within a matter of seconds.
"I can also make plants grow." You bragged with a proud smile.
"What kind of plants?" The alchemist asked, his eyes sparkling with interest.
"Well, I'm not quite sure myself. I made Cecilias grow when I thought about them, back at the Starsnatch Cliff. But I don't know if I could grow a cherry blossom tree in the middle of Dragonspine." You explained, scratching the back of your head.
"Try it."
"What?" You asked, baffled by Albedo's sudden request.
"Try growing a plant that shouldn't be able to grow on this mountain." He repeated, seemingly excited.
"Err, I need Dendro energy to make a plant grow. Just like fire requires Pyro energy. Without the power of plants, I cannot make plants grow." You replied, secretly hoping that he would give up on the idea.
You jumped in surprise as the blonde suddenly held a flowerpot in front of your face. A Sweetflower was growing in it.
"Just absorb this flower's energy. You don't need to worry, it isn't a special specimen." He suggested with a calm expression.
You hesitated. Was it really okay to do this? Absorbing its energy would kill it. You felt bad for the poor plant; you should have known better when you decided to bring up this topic.
"Fine." You mumbled, reaching out to the Sweetflower.
Focusing, you started absorbing its Dendro energy, until there was none left within the plant. You looked down at the now withered, dead flower, causing your heart to drop.
Murderer.
You walked outside and crouched down, burying your hands in the snow.
Gathering the Dendro energy within your palms, you released it into the ground.
You closed your eyes, "A blooming cherry tree would look stunning in the middle of this barren and cold mountain."
You imagined a small sapling sprouting from the ground; slowly growing into a young tree with pink blossoms.
As you opened your eyes, they landed on a small tree, barely two meters tall. Despite its small size, it was in full bloom. Its branches and twigs were surrounded by beautiful pink blossoms.
"I actually expected it to be even smaller, because of the small amount of energy I had to offer." You muttered under your breath.
"Amazing." Albedo suddenly spoke up, walking towards the tree.
"Well, I doubt that it will keep its state for long. The weather up here isn't suitable for it, after all." You pointed out, before going back inside, not sparing the tree another glance.
Walking towards the fire, you warmed up your hands, which were now numb from the cold.
Albedo still hasn't come back inside. He was standing in the cold, examining the tree. An exhausting, yet amused sigh escaped your lips.
As long as he was happy, you were fine with it.
*Timeskip*You sleepily opened your eyes. You noticed weak rays of sunshine shining through the camps' entrance.
"When did I fall asleep?!" You abruptly rose from your sleeping position, looking around.
"Good morning." You were greeted by a familiar, calm voice, "You were already asleep when I went back inside. I figured that you weren't going to wake up until morning, so I carried you to the bed. I hope you don't mind it, that I did so without your permission."
"How embarrassing."
"No, it's alright. Thanks, for looking out for me." You replied with a smile.
"You probably want to go back to Mondstadt, right? Sorry, but do you mind going back on your own? There is something I'm researching currently, so-"
"Don't worry." You interrupted the blonde, "I haven't mastered my ability completely, but I believe I can return to Mondstadt alive."
You hoped off the bed and equipped your weapon and bag.
Albedo gave me a calm smile, "Thank you for coming all the way up here. I hope that we'll meet again soon."
"If you want to meet me again, you better get off that mountain more often. You won't see me up here anytime soon." You laughed, heading toward the exit.
A chuckle escaped the blonde's lips, causing you to look back at him in surprise.
"Have a save trip home." He smiled amused, not looking at you.
"Thank you." You replied hesitant and headed outside.
Your eyes landed on the small cherry tree, which surprisingly hasn't lost a single blossom yet.
"Strange." You muttered, before making your way back down to Mondstadt.
*In the Afternoon*
A sigh of relief escaped your mouth as you finally found yourself at Mondstadt's gate. Exhausted from all that walking, you decided to get something to eat.
As you walked up the stairs, toward Good Hunter, you spotted a familiar face heading downstairs."Bennet!"
Just as you were about to call out to the boy, he tripped on the stairs. Seeing how he was about to meet the bottom of the stairs face first, you reached out, determined to stop his fall.
"It's the thought that counts." You mused as you found both, yourself and Bennet, at the bottom of the stairs.
You groaned in pain as you sat up, your hand clutching your shoulder.
"Are you alright?!" A panicking voice asked.
Looking up, you met a pair of worried green eyes.
"Don't worry, I'm fine." You gave him a reassuring smile, "Are you okay? I hope you didn't get hurt from that fall."
"I'm okay. Just a few harmless bruises." Bennet ruffled his white hair, letting out a heavy sigh, "Thank you for saving me from any serious injuries. But I'd wish you hadn't done this. I feel bad that you got injured because of me."
You stood up and dusted off your clothes, before turning to the boy.
"Hey now. I acted on my own, so don't blame yourself for it. If I get injured because of my own actions, I'm the only one to blame." You replied and crossed your arms; a grin on your face, "By the way. I'm glad that I finally bumped into you. I never got the chance to thank you for saving my life back then."
The male looked at you, trying to figure out what you were talking about.
After a few moments of silence, realization finally hit him
"You are the person from Wolvendom!" His eyes shone with glee, "I'm so glad that you are okay! I was really worried when we found you being attacked by monsters. It has been over a week, how is your arm doing?"
"Thanks to Barbara's care, it's as good as new. The wound left a huge scar. But I don't mind, since it looks kinda cool." You replied with a bright smile.
"I'm glad to hear that you are doing fine." Bennet gave you a warm smile.
"Oh, before I forget about it. Would you mind relaying my gratitude to your friend? He was the one killing the Riftwolf before I lost consciousness. I doubt that I will be meeting him anytime soon. So, you'd do me a huger favor if you could deliver my thanks to him." You explained with a soft smile, hoping that Bennet would accept your request.
"Of course!" He beamed with a bright grin, "I'm sure he will be happy to hear that you are alive and well."
"Thank you so much!"
"But I hope that you will be able to one day thank him yourself. He might not be very chatty, but he is a nice guy." Bennet grinned.
You nodded, knowing that it would only be fair to thank Razor in person.
A heavy sigh suddenly escaped the male's lips, "I'll have to leave now. I've got an important mission and shouldn't waste too much time. I hope you don't mind."
"It's alright." You said, crossing your arms.
"Let's meet again soon." He beamed happily.
You nodded, "Goodbye. And be careful."
He gave you a quick thumbs up, before turning around and hurrying out the city.
A relieved sigh escaped your lips.
"Well, I shouldn't have any unfinished business anymore." You smiled, satisfied, "Time to eat."
