Sunday morning dawned bright and glorious, heralding in the first full day of spring. Despite the curtains being drawn, you were well aware of the brilliance of the sunrise since Eddie had set an alarm for six when it was still dark out. Rousing you from the deepest sleep you'd had in several days, was a Herculean task, but once the reality of your situation dawned upon you, you hastily joined him in dressing and sneaking out of the house before any fishermen or joggers might glimpse the pair of you creeping down the back steps and into the boat house.
Once there, Eddie made a makeshift bed in the boat with stolen blankets and pillows. He helped you in and pulled the tarp over your heads which helped to seal in your mutual warmth against the lingering vestiges of winter that hung around in the early morning. "Snug as a bug," he asked softly. You nodded in response and pulled him closer. Despite the fact that you were literally hiding in a boat and waiting upon children to bring you provisions and news, you were so grateful to be held in his arms and breath in his familiar leather and whiskey scent that hung on his jacket and vest. As always, his arms were strong and secure around you, and you quickly found yourself falling back to sleep.
When he flung off the tarp at the sound of an approaching car, you were startled awake by his motion. "Eddie, what the—"
"Shh, get back under and stay silent," he said from his position at the window. The broken beer bottle had returned to his hand. Shaken, you pulled the tarp back over and crouched down. While you tried to stifle each breath against whatever might be out there, you almost screamed when the door banged open and Dustin's voice rang out.
"Delivery service!" Eddie made his way over to the boat that you were now poking your head out of and removed the tarp while you tried to slow your heart rate after the scare they'd just given you both.
"You guys really don't know how to be subtle, do ya'," he commented, as he stowed away the tarp for later use and sat down next to you. Max came over and gave you a quick hug, for which you were grateful.
"So we got, uh some good news and some bad news," Dustin informed you both. He was seated on a small stool with Steve standing nearby against a pillar. Max sat next to you on the dock while Robin leaned on a shelf above her. Eddie was hurriedly crunching into a box of Honey Combs while you slowly munched on the Honey Nut Cheerios, hoping and praying that the morning sickness of the last few days might stay away given how many people were watching you eat. "How do you prefer it?" Dustin's question brought you back.
"Bad news first, always," Eddie stated as though it were the most obvious thing in the world and swigged his Yoohoo.
"All right. Bad news," Dustin began. "We tapped into the Hawkins PD dispatch with our Cerebro, and they're definitely looking for you."
"What the hell is a Cerebro?" you inquired, curious as to how a freshman was able to hack police radios.
"Fancy radio," Max added. Both Eddie and Dustin looked ready to say more, but she held up a hand. "She doesn't need the encyclopedia definition, nerds. Continue."
