I left our Monday-breakfast meeting with 6 new manuscripts to read this week. I walked into my office, dropping them on my desk. I sighed and looked outside; mid-April and the weather was already nice. Soon it would be warm enough to go to the beach again, not that I went that often. Hugo didn't like the sand, I scolded myself, of course my mind wandered off to Hugo again.
Hugo is my boyfriend and I love him, I really do. I let out a deep sigh again... On paper is Hugo perfect, but lately I start to feel a bit ... well bored. Maybe I feel this because we have been together for 7 years. We live together for 10 months now, and habits have crept into our relationship. I shook my head, this is not good Rose, only Positive thoughts I scolded myself, he loves you.
"Rose? Lunch today?" Laura asked me with a knock on my door. I turned around and forced a smile.
I work as an editor for publishing house 'DIANA'. In my last year I worked here as an intern and after my graduation Diana offered me a job. Diana, our boss is a hard-working woman. She is bold, respectful and also very honest and fair when she says yes or no to a writer. I was one of the four editors working here. Bill and Heather were two of the senior editors working here. Kurt and I were the juniors, well they often called me the 'baby junior' since Kurt was 31 years.
Every week on Monday we discussed the manuscript that we read in the past weeks. Those who we thought were worth a shot, took Diana over, if we could sell it to her. After that we divided the new manuscripts that came in. We also discussed the running works. If Diana found a manuscript worthy, she gave it back. Then the hard work began, the whole process of planning, coordinating, revising and correcting started. We worked closely with the writers to refine their work. It's all those things that make my work varied and challenging, I love reading but working closely with the writers is even better. No need to say that I absolutely love my work."Yeah, of course. Is everyone coming?" I asked Laura, she is our personal assistant.
"No, it's just us today."
"No problem, Laura. You can tell me all about your weekend." I told her with a grin. Laura is around my age but still single and likes going out with her friends. I love to listen to her stories.
"Hugo called while you were in meeting." She told me.
I groaned "why now?"
"He didn't say. I told him that you would call back when you were out the meeting."
I smiled to her in thanks "I call him. Thanks."
"I see you later." She smiled back and I nodded.
I took my phone out of my purse and called Hugo back.
"Hey honey."
"Hugo, hi. Why did you call?"
"I missed you this morning." He said.
