I woke up from a groaning and sighing Hugo. He probably had a hangover, I heard him drink something and then he went back to the bedroom. I took my phone and peeped at the time, 7:28am, great.
Being awake I took a shower and brushed my teeth. Maybe I need to start that breakfast on bed. But when I heard his snoring coming from out our room and seeing the state of the kitchen, I changed my mind. I left a note on the kitchen table and left the apartment.
Living close to my brother I could walk over there, Mia is probably awake. 15 minutes later I knocked on their door. I saw Mia peering out the window next to the front door and I waved to her. Her face lit up with a huge smile. She opened the door and screamed "auntie Rose!"
"Hey Mia, how are you?" I asked her while I scooped her in my arms and kissed her chubby cheek.
"Good. Mommy is in the kitchen. Daddy is working."
"Okay, I'm going to see you mommy quick and then I'll be back."
She nodded and ran back to the living room. I heard her singing along with the television.
I walked towards the kitchen "Sophia?"
"Rose, hey what are you doing here?" she asked.
"I was up, bored and thought that Mia would be awake."
Sophia nodded "She is, since 6 am."
"You look tired."
"I just got back from a night shift. My college was sick, and I took over. My mother is coming over around 10 am. I need to stay up till then."
"Go to bed Sophia, I will look after her."
"Are you sure?"
"Yes, of course. I have nothing to do. And next time ask me."
"You have your own life, Rose. We didn't want to disturb you."
"I appreciate that, but next time ask. If I'm not free, I will tell you. So, has she eaten?"
"Not yet, I was just about to start."
"Okay, go to bed."
"Thanks Rose."
"No problem."
I went back to the living room. "Mia are you hungry?" I asked her.
"Yes! Yes!" She jumped up and down.
"What do you want to eat?"
"Pancakes!"
"Fine, turn off the television."
In the meantime, I sent a message to Hugo, telling him that I was staying with Mia till Sophia's mother was here. He didn't reply, probably still asleep.
Mia was already pulling out the flour, sugar, and such. I put on some music, and we started to put the ingredients together. Mia was chatting about pre-school, she started with it in September. I mixed the batter and began to bake the pancakes. I took a plate and gave her the first one. While she started eating, I baked the rest. After breakfast we cleaned up and I helped her dress. I left a note on the table that we would go to the park, in case Sophia woke up early.
