What just happened? I closed my eyes for a moment thinking back to the moment I wanted to kiss Rose. I really wanted to kiss her, for a long time now. But when I noticed Hailey behind us, I wanted to hurt her for breaking my heart and leaving me alone when I needed her the most.
I used Rose, I had promised her that I wouldn't do that, and I did it anyway. The hurt and betrayal were clear in her beautiful grey eyes.
Just before everything happened, they were shining with happiness but now when I closed my eyes, I could only see how they filled with unshed tears. She even let me and Hailey alone to talk things through. Hailey wanted me back; she begged me to take her back and I let her.
I kissed her because I wanted to see if it still felt the same. But when I kissed her, it didn't feel any more like it used to be. How much did I miss those lips when I was laying in the hospital, but it wasn't anymore like before.
I felt nothing for Hailey. And that idea blew me away.
I wanted to tell Hailey that but then Rose was back. And then Hailey showed me all those pictures from Rose with other men. Hugging, kissing them. I couldn't believe it, I didn't think that Rose would be like that, but I saw the pictures with my own eyes. Rose really looked confused about what Hailey was saying and when I lashed out, she flinched. I hated that when I made her flinch.
She looked hurt by my actions, and I hesitated for a moment, till she became desperate and accused Hailey of driving my car during the accident. I watched Hailey and she denied it. Giving her a kiss on the crown of her head like I used to do felt wrong, but I didn't know anymore who was lying and who wasn't.
Rose confessed her feelings for me, but I was too confused to answer her and then she walked away. She walked away and I was stupid for letting her.
"Finally, so pathetic." Hailey muttered while she wrapped her arms around me. "I missed you, Lucas."
I pulled a bit away "uh, Hailey I don't know about this."
"Didn't you miss me?" Hailey asked.
I nodded "yeah I missed you in the hospital."
She beamed at me "Of course you did, but now I'm back. I would like to have my engagement ring back."
"I threw it away." I told her, although that isn't true. Justin brought it back to the store for me.
"That's fine Lucas, we can buy a new one, maybe a bit bigger as the first one."
"Hailey, I don't know about this."
"Silly boy." She took my hand and pulled me with her. Never thinking about my leg, adjusting her tempo to me. Rose did that, I thought.
I trailed behind her, still lost in thoughts and blown away. I couldn't wrap my head around what happened. I didn't notice that Hailey had pulled me towards my family's table and yelled "we are back together!"
