The basketball game was good, Brandon and his friends were huge fans of the home team. I played basketball my whole life and I always liked seeing a good match. I was good but not good enough to be drafted after my final year in college. I was always aware of that, hence my master's in business. I had talent but not like Thorn, should he not have had his shoulder injury we would be watching him now, I'm sure of it. I was always impressed how easily he let go of that dream. Or maybe he did make it look easy.
After the game we went to a restaurant, we were early so most of them ordered appetizers. They were very excited and loud because their team had won the game. I sat at the end of the table so that I could easily stretch out my right leg. Justin sat in front of me and Dean at my left. I don't know Dean that well, but he did his best to involve me. He even showed me some pictures that Iris had shared with him. "They just left the wellness." He told me.
"How was it?" I asked trying to keep the conversation going. I was very social, online and with people I know well. Not with new people, that was harder for me.
"Good, they are well pampered." He came closer to me and muttered under his breath "and got themselves a nice wax."
I spit out my water, he patted my back and laughed loudly. "Already imagining how soft she will feel underneath you?" He wiggled his eyebrows and Justin joined him.
"I'm sure he is." Justin piped in.
"We are friends, I don't think about her like that." I told them.
"Yeah right, I have seen how you were struggling at the beach when she sat over you." Dean threw back at me.
Luckily Justin changed the topic for me to Dean's work as an interior architect. Justin was the most creative person in our family. Well, he is also a lawyer but when that girl dropped Ivy off with him, he changed his whole life for her. He moved back in with my parents and when mom could watch Ivy he went to some photography courses, he was always good with a camera, but he has a knack for the right angle, light and so on. Around Ivy's first birthday he started as a photographer, waiting to get his name out there he stayed working for my dad. He started with small jobs, weddings, birthday parties, gender reveal parties and so on. And then one day he was asked to do a shoot for a magazine, the booked photographer was sick, but he gave Justin's name through, and that was the start of his career as a freelance photographer.
When Ivy started pre-school, he moved out with her, he bought a house for them close to the beach. He was happy in his life, but I knew that he was lonely, that he wanted company. Someone to share everything he had with, he deserved it. Not many women were willingly to accept his daughter. That's why, when they came on to him, he reacted the way he did. The waiter was doing it tonight, she had only eyes for him. Every now and then she touched his arm. He was getting annoyed and when she came back and bended a bit too much over to show off here cleavage he said, "I'm a single dad, my daughter is four years old."
