Annie's Adventures

Chapter 39

I woke up to a loud purr in my ear, I look to see Tom curled up next to my head purring away in his sleep, I smile and kick around, he's never been in my crib with me before, I hear groaning from Mum's bed I coo to her,
"Good Morning" she mumbles half asleep, she slowly gets up then heads to the toilet, few minutes later she comes out and cones over to my crib smiling down at me, she rubs her eyes before picking me up and carrying me downstairs, she lays me in my bouncer while she feeds the dogs and the four cats, Emma and Daisy are doing really well, growing and getting stronger every day. Mum then heads out and gives the horses their breakfast then turns them out, she comes back inside and makes herself breakfast and makes my bottle, we eat our breakfast together, after that she cleans up and brings me back to the living room, we play together for a bit then head upstairs to get changed for the day, my nappy gets changed, clothes are put on, Mum gets dressed as well once we were ready Mum carries me downstairs and lays me in my bouncer while she gets everything together.
Once we were ready, we headed out, the dogs were put in the boot, the bags were thrown in the passenger seat, I was strapped into my car seat and Mum jumped into the drivers seat.
"We're off to see Amy and the puppies!" Mum says happily as she pulls out the drive way and turns to head for Amy's.
After a while we arrive, Mum gets out and let's the dogs out of the boot then unstraps me and lifts me out of the car seat, we walk up to the front door and ring the bell, soon Amy answers it,
"Hi!" Amy says as Max comes out greeting us the dogs run off to play in the front garden, Amy goes round to the side gate and let's the dogs into the back garden then comes back to us and we enter the house, "how's you?" Amy asks
"We're good! You?"
"I'm good! Tired, it's exhausting work having puppies"
"I bet!"
"Want to see them?"
"Yes please!"
"Feel free! Say hello to Daisy first though. I'll go make the tea"
Mum smiles and heads into the living room, she places me on the sofa and then turns to Daisy,
"Hello Daisy! You doing okay? Can I see your babies again please?" Daisy gives her a lick of approval, and Mum searches for our puppies,
"Here's Bramble!" She says picking him up and placing him on my lap,
"Here's Lily" she says as she picks her up and puts her beside me, "and here's Breeze! Oh there's Charlie!" Mum says as she picks them up and puts them on the sofa, she holds Charlie and kisses his head.
"I can't wait to bring you home darling!" She says
The four puppies are climbing all over me and Mum, we laugh at them,
"Aw look at you!" Amy says as she walks in and places the two mugs of tea on the coffee table "It's soon their lunch time, would you like to feed them?"
"Oh yes please! But first I want to talk to you about something" Mum says
"Sure go on"
"I've been thinking and rethinking my decision on taking four puppies, I mean it would have been fine with Gary here but also I don't know what we were doing with getting two puppies for Annie, now that I'm a single Mother I think we're only going to go for 2 puppies as we've got two already, so getting four would mean six dogs, that's too much for me to handle"
"I agree, I'm glad you realised that before taking the puppies home"
Amy says and Mum nods with tears in her eyes
"I mean, I wish I could take them all and I feel bad but it's the right thing."
Amy nods "yes and you're doing what's best for you. So which two are you not taking?" Amy asks looking at the four puppies on my lap, Mum turns and stares at them for a bit then taking a deep breath, she picks up Bramble and Lily, holding them up for Amy.
"These two, we're going to keep Breeze and Charlie"
Amy nods and takes the paper collars off Lily and Bramble then they put them back in the whelping pen and they get lost in the bundle of puppies,
"I will be sure to find these two five star homes don't worry, and I'm planning to set up a WhatsApp group for all the new owners to keep in touch and for me to watch them grow even though I am keeping Rose"
"Oh yes that sounds like a fantastic idea! Count me in!" Mum says.
After a while Mum puts Charlie and Breeze back in the whelping pen back with their siblings then she sits on the sofa watching them as Amy heads off to make their lunch, once it was made she brings it through and gives it to Mum who puts it in the whelping pen for the puppies, they all yap excitedly. Mum and Amy then place all the puppies so that they all get to the food.
Then they sit back and watch for a few minutes, then they chat for a while over their cup of teas.
"Shall we go for a walk with the dogs?" Amy asks finishing her tea after a while of chatting, Mum nods so they get up and get ready for walking the dogs, the dogs who were let in a while ago are now bouncing around super excited, Daisy and Rex start barking, Mum puts me in my pram while Amy puts the leads on all four dogs, then we were ready to go! Mum takes Lisa and Daisy as they walk to heel beside my pram, Amy takes Rex and Max, we walk to the Nature Walk, and let the dogs off lead, Amy and
Mum chat away as they walk along the path and I fall asleep, we walk about half an hour down the path then turn around and head back, half an hour later, we are back at the house, the dogs are panting and tired, I'm still asleep in the pram, we all enter the house, the dogs are let off lead, they run off to the kitchen to get a drink of water, Amy follows them to make sure there's enough water for all four dogs, Daisy takes a quick drink then runs to check on her babies, once the other three have finished Daisy goes back for her drink, then lays down next to the whelping pen. Mum loosens my straps and leaves me sleeping, she sits on the sofa, Lisa Jumps up next to her bed curls up, Rex and Max curl up on the dog bed and fall asleep, Daisy stays awake, resting her chin on the side of the whelping pen keeping an eye on her puppies, soon Amy comes in carrying two hot cup of teas, she hands one to a Mum and sits down
"That was a lovely walk!" She says
"Yep it sure was! Annie's missed it though she slept right through it and she's still out!"
"I think she's waking up" Amy points out as I stir and open my eyes, I give a big stretch
"Oh she just woke up! She must have heard us!" Mum says as she puts her tea down and picks me up, and lays me on the floor, she changes my nappy and then hands me to Amy, she cleans up and sits back on the sofa, after a while of chatting Mum stands up
"Right I think I should get going! I think I want to ride Fred this evening"
Amy nods and stands up too
"Okay good idea! Enjoy your ride and thank you for coming over!"
Mum smiles at her as she goes to grab her coat and shoes, she gets ready then calls Lisa and Rex, she takes  me from Amy and leaves the house after giving Amy a hug. Mum then puts me in my car seat and straps me in, she then opens the boot and the dogs jump in then finally she gets in the drivers seat and drives off waving to Amy.
Soon we arrive back home, Mum gets out and let's the dogs out then gets me out of the car and we head to the barn, Mum places me in the play pen while she sorts the stables out, mucking out, filling haynets, filling water buckets doing night feeds which she leaves in the feed room, then she grabs Fred's halter and goes to the fields, not long later I see Mum walking back into the barn with Fred, she ties him up near me and fetches his grooming bag then starts grooming him, after a good groom she tacks him up, once Fred was ready, she fetches the baby carrier and puts it on then she picks me up and puts me inside, making sure we were secure, finally she takes Fred's halter off and leads him outside to the mountain block,
"Who wants to come?" She asks as Lisa and Rex both stand there waiting looking up at us, they both bark and wag their tail.
"I take that as you both want to go! That's fine. You ready? she climbs up and mounts Fred,
"Good boy!" Mum says as she gives him a pat on the neck, "walk on" she says and Fred walks on, we walk out of the yard and go for a stroll round the area, I look up and see Mum taking a few pictures, selfies of her and I, her point of view on Fred, me, the dogs and the view around us. We had a lovely peaceful stroll and before we knew it we were back home on our yard, Mum guides Fred to the mountain block and dismounts on that then walks down the steps, she leads him into the barn and puts his halter on his neck then she takes me out of the carrier and puts me back in the play pen, the dogs lay near the play pen panting from the run, Mum untacks Fred and puts his stable rub on them puts him in his stable, she then fetch's the halters and goes to bring everyone else in, once everyone had their stable rugs on and were in stables, Mum fetched the feed buckets and fed everyone, she then fed Lily the rabbit and then came to play with me for about ten minutes while everyone had their dinners, once they were finished she collected all the feed buckets and washed them then left them to dry, she picks me up and turns the light off.
"Good night horses! I love you all" she says as she shuts the doors, then she walks back to the house with the dogs behind her, she opens the door and we all walk in to be greeted by the two cats, Mum closes the door locks it then bends down to pet Tom and Marmalade, after each of them had a fuss, Mum stands up again and walks into the living room, she lays me in the bouncer and takes off my coat then she takes hers off and heads upstairs, she comes back down five minutes later all changed into her lounge wear, she heads into the kitchen to start on dinner, once that was cooking she feeds me my bottle which I drink hungrily, after my bottle Mum's dinner is ready so she rushes back into the kitchen to serve it, she then brings her plate though and sits on the couch eating her dinner while watching me play, once she finished she clears up and feeds the cats and dogs, then she picks me up and carries me upstairs, she lays me on her bed,
"Time for another bath Annie! It's much needed" Mum announces as she heads into the bathroom to start the bath, once it was ready, she comes back and undresses me, then lifts me up and takes me through to the bathroom, she checks she has everything she needs then kneel's down and gently lowers me into the water, holding my head above the water with her hand, I play for a little, moving my legs, arms, opening and closing my hands under the water, I quite liked the feel! Mum then starts washing me, she washes my body and then washes my hair, once I was all nice and clean, she lifts me out of the bath and lays me on a towel, she quickly wraps me up and lifts me up again holding me in her arms, she pulls the plug and stands up to walk into the bedroom, she lays me on the bed and then dries me off and feels for any wet places she may have missed, once she was satisfied that I was dry, she puts my pjs on and finally we head downstairs to sit on the couch until we get sleepy and go to bed.
