After defeating Lance, Jaden found out who the champion was, and it was someone he didn't expect.
Jaden: What? Gary?!
Gary: Well, what do you expect?
Jaden: I knew you were challenging the League, but I didn't know you were the champion.
Gary: I did, and I became the champion. A lot quicker than you. Since I recently became champion, I intend to keep that status and nobody will stop me, not even you.
Jaden: We'll see about that.
Announcer: We will be back in a few days to see challenger Jaden face the champion of Kanto, Gary! See you soon!

A few days later...
Jaden had all his Pokemon rested and looked after by Nurse Joy.
Jaden: Wow. Gary's the champion, huh? What would've thought? This won't be easy. Has it ever been easy?
Then his pokewatch beeped. It was Cynthia.
The text said that she was heading to the stadium to see face Gary after she found he defeated the Elite Four.
He texted "Can't wait to see you".
He was resting in the Pokemon Centre.
Jaden: We should get some training done.
