After arriving in Cianwood City, Jaden is hoping to have a gym battle.
Jaden's next gym battle wasn't what he was expecting. While Olivine City's power was off, they had to take a detour to Cianwood City.
Jaden: Okay, let's locate the gym.
Jaden was wandering around to find the gym, and a commotion helped him.
Jaden: What's going on over there? Let's check it out.
Jaden and Arcanine ran to a dojo, where a Machoke and a person were battling.
???: Alright Machoke, use Submission!
Machoke had the person in a hold on the ground.
???: That's it, Machoke! Use your strength!
Machoke released the person and they got up.
???: Excellent Machoke, your strength has improved.
Machoke exclaimed in excitement.
???: Alright class, I hope you learned an important lesson: that training with your Pokemon firsthand can improve your bond and their power.
Jaden: Is this a class?
???: Okay now, class is over.
The people left.
Jaden: Excuse me, I'm looking for the gym.
???: Well, here you are.
Jaden: Wait, this is the gym?
Chuck: Of course, and I'm the gym leader. Name's Chuck and I specialize in fighting types if you didn't know.
Jaden: I'm Jaden. I was hoping to have a gym battle.
Chuck: Of course. But, could you come back tomorrow? I'm pretty tired after teaching and I want to be at full strength when battling.
Jaden: Sure. Bye for now.
Jaden left the gym and headed to the Pokemon Centre.

The next day...
Jaden arrived back at the gym with the Pokemon he wanted to use.
Jaden: I'm here.
Chuck: Good. I've been waiting. Let's begin. My wife will be the referee.
Referee: Thanks, dear. The gym battle between Chuck the gym leader, and Jaden the challenger will begin. This will be a three-on-three battle and the battle will be over when one side's Pokemon are unable to continue. Furthermore, the challenger is allowed to make substitutions. Now, reveal your first Pokemon.
Chuck: Go, Primeape!
Jaden: Go Noctowl!
Referee: Start the battle!
Chuck: Primeape, use Focus Energy!
Primeape raised its attack.
Jaden: Noctowl, use Air Slash!
Noctowl fired slices of air at Primeape.
Chuck: Primeape, block it with Power-up Punch!
Primeape used its fists to counter the Air Slash.
Jaden: What?! It blocked the attack?
Chuck: Yes. My Pokemon are built on their strength and nothing more. Use Power-up Punch again!
Primeape swiftly jumped up and punched Noctowl. Primeape landed a direct hit. Primeape's attack was raised.
Jaden: That's fast.
Chuck: Yep. Now use Karate Chop!
Primeape jumped up again.
Jaden: Noctowl, use Air Slash!
Noctowl landed a super-effective hit on an incoming Primeape. Primeape landed on the ground and took more damage.
Chuck: Stay strong, Primeape and use Focus Energy!
Primeape raised its attack again.
Chuck: Use Thunder Punch!
