After helping Cheryl find Flower Paradise, Jaden's gym battle with Gardenia is only around the corner.
Once arriving at Eterna City, Cheryl and Blissey left to travel to another region.
As for Jaden and Arcanine, a day went by before arriving outside Gardenia's gym, who was waiting outside.
Gardenia: You're finally here. It's not nice leaving a lady waiting.
Jaden: I actually thought I'm on time.
Gardenia: Doesn't matter. Come in.
Gardenia took them to the battlefield, which was a small version of a forest.
Gardenia: Are you ready?
Jaden: Yep.
Gardenia: A grass type enthusiast, like myself, will referee the match.
The referee had a Nuzleaf beside her.
Referee: The gym battle between Gardenia, the gym leader, and Jaden the challenger will begin. This will be a three-on-three battle and the battle will be over when one side's Pokemon are unable to continue. Only the challenger can substitute Pokemon. Now, begin!
Gardenia: Cherubi, I choose you!
Jaden: Cherubi?
Pokedex: Cherubi, the Cherry Pokemon. The small ball holds the nutrients needed for evolution. Apparently, it's very sweet and tasty.
Jaden: Okay, Staravia! Double Team!
Staravia made copies of itself above Cherubi.
Gardenia: Cherubi, Sunny Day!
Cherubi intensified the sun, powering up fire type moves.
Jaden: If she's using Sunny Day, that can only mean one thing.
Gardenia: Use Solar Beam!
Cherubi absorbed sunlight and fired.
Cherubi eliminated the copies of Staravia and landed a direct hit.
Jaden: Staravia, no!
Gardenia: Now, Growth!
Cherubi raised its attack.
Jaden: Staravia, Quick Attack!
Staravia lunged at Cherubi.
Gardenia: Dodge.
Cherubi dodged with amazing speed.
Jaden: It's so fast.
Gardenia: Guess what Cherubi's ability is.
Jaden: It's Chlorophyll, which boosts its speed in sunlight.
Gardenia: Correct. This combination proves to be tough for my previous challengers.
Jaden: But I'm not an ordinary trainer.
Gardenia: Let us see. Cherubi, Magical Leaf!
Cherubi appeared from behind Staravia and attacked with curious leaves and landed a direct hit.
Jaden: Staravia, fly up!
Staravia flew into the sky.
Gardenia: What's he planning? Cherubi, Razor Leaf!
Cherubi fired sharp-edged leaves but missed.
Jaden: Now, Wing Attack!
Staravia skydived down toward Cherubi with its large, imposing wings.
Gardenia: No, I can't see where Staravia will attack from. Ah! That's what he was going for!
Jaden: Now, strike!
Staravia landed a super-effective hit on Cherubi.
Gardenia: Cherubi!
Jaden: Wing Attack!
Staravia attacked again with its large, imposing wings.
Gardenia: Cherubi, Magical Leaf!
Cherubi attacked with curious leaves and landed a hit on Staravia.
Jaden: Staravia, return. I'll need you later. Monferno, go!
Gardenia: So it's a fire type next. Use Growth.
