Jaden had returned to Rustboro City after dealing with Team Magma. Now, he hopes to have a gym battle.
When he had returned to Rustboro City, he headed to the Pokemon Centre to rest.

The next day...
Jaden: Okay. Gym, here we come.
He arrived at the gym and saw the same as yesterday.
Jaden: It's stick closed? Then let's find the gym leader then.
He walked around the city and found himself at the Pokemon Trainers school.
Jaden: A school huh? It's big. Let's take a look.
As he was wandering around the school, he noticed the different classes they held.
Jaden: Wow. So many. There's one for beginners if you want to do a Pokemon showcase and even gym battles.
He wandered his way to the top floor and still had no look at finding the gym leader.
Jaden: Well, I take it they're not here. Let's try somewhere else.
As they were leaving, Arcanine spotted something.
It spotted a Pokemon, cowering underneath a bench.
Arcanine decided to approach it.
???: Poliwag! Poliwag, where are you?
Someone came up to Arcanine and picked up Poliwag.
???: Are you okay, Poliwag?
Jaden: Arcanine? What are you doing? We're meant to be looking for the gym leader. Oh, hello.
???: Hello? Is this your Arcanine?
Jaden: Yeah.
???: Then I must thank it. This Poliwag must've run away again.
Jaden: It's okay. Come on then. Let's head out.
???: Um, did you say you wanted to challenge the Rustboro Gym?
Jaden: Yeah. Although, we can't find the gym leader.
???: Well, you're looking at her.
Jaden: Huh?
Roxanne: Hi, I'm Roxanne, the gym leader.
After introductions, Roxanne took Jaden and Arcanine to her classroom.
Student #1: Miss Roxanne, you're back.
Student #2: And you found Poliwag!
Roxanne: Yes, and it's thanks to Jaden here.
Jaden: It's nothing, really.
Roxanne: Hey Jaden, didn't you become champion of Kanto and Johto?
Jaden: I guess that's becoming apparent in Hoenn, huh?
Roxanne: It is. I take it you're here for the Hoenn League?
Jaden: I am.
Roxanne: Then let's not keep you waiting any longer. Let's have our gym battle now.
Jaden: But, what about your class?
Roxanne: Hey class, would you like to watch a Pokemon battle?
Students: Yeah!
Roxanne: Then let's head over to my gym.

After arriving, Jaden and Roxanne took to their respective sides and her class were in the stands watching.
Roxanne: I'll have one of my top students referee.
Jaden: No problem.
Referee: The gym battle between Roxanne the gym leader and Jaden the challenger will begin. This will be a two-on-two battle. The battle will be over when one side's Pokemon are unable to continue. Furthermore, the challenger will be allowed to make substitutions. Now, bring our your first Pokemon.
Roxanne: Geodude, I choose you.
Jaden: Let's go, Treecko.
Referee: Begin the match.
Roxanne: Geodude, use Rollout!
Geodude became a sphere-like object and fiercely rolled toward Treecko.
Jaden: Treecko, use Bullet Seed toward the ground!
Treecko fired bullet seeds in Geodude's path.
This caused Geodude to lose control of its spinning.
