KIERA

A well dressed man was giving a speech. My boss was keeping champagne glasses while I held the tray. I was surrounded by snotty snobs but my job was to treat them well and I was doing that. Asking them smilingly "Sir/Ma'am would you like some champagne?" No one ever said no. Another waitress eyed me to take the empty glasses. I was walking forward when I crashed with someone legs and fell down, not to mention the glasses which broke. Embarrassed as hell I was apologizing to everyone. Someone helped me with the cleaning. Everyone was laughing and clapping at some comment the man who was giving the speech had made. After cleaning the floor my boss called me.

Boss: What exactly do you do Ms. Kiera Wood?

On Monday, Wednesday and Friday I work at a cafe. On Tuesdays and Thursdays I teach students. When I need money I work at one day events like this. In the rest of my time I work as a calligrapher. But what I answered was...

Kiera: I'm not sure what kind of work I do.

She gave me a blank stare when I gave her the same.

I chose two perfumes one for me and one for my boyfriend, Cole. Tomorrow was our 100th day anniversary.

Sales lady: Would you like them wrapped?

Kiera: Just the purple one. And can you make the ribbon look nice and cute?

She did an eyeroll while packing the perfume. What a rude lady! My phone ringed as I exited from the shop. It was Cole.

Cole: Hello. What are you doing?

Kiera: Nothing much.

Cole: You must have been busy. What were you doing today?

Kiera: You don't need to know... what are we doing tomorrow??

Cole was very sweet. He always tried to make me laugh. He had humor filled in him like body is filled with water. I made him a 100th day card. Atleast he won't reject my calligraphies like the book stores do. I packed it with the gift and went to sleep.

(next day)

We were walking hand in hand like the couples do. I never came terms with couple-y things. We were about the same height if I wore heels, which I was. He didn't have the most brooding face in the room but he was definitely one of the cute ones.

Cole: Kiera?

Kiera: Yes.

Cole: I love you.

Three words. It can be the happiest words for a girl to hear in their lifetime. Not for me. I despised these three words. I wasn't made for these words. I had lost my faith with these words. I stood still. The smile from my face faded away.

Cole: I said I love you.

Every man expects a reaction from their significant other. It will be happy or sad. But I was none. I couldn't come up with an emotion.

Kiera: Okay.

I started walking away from him. He wasn't holding my hand anymore. I was walking alone.

Cole: Let's break up.

I reacted at him with the same face when he said I love you. Blank. It was sad but not enough to make me cry.

Kiera: Yes.. I think we should..

Cole: Okay then.

I threw the gift and started walking away. It is weird, the moment you have been through a breakup the amount of sighting cringey couples increase. But wait.. Why did I throw the gift? It was fucking expensive..I went back and took the gift from the place I threw it. I wasn't going to waste a nice men's perfume. I texted in my friend group 'the news'.
