Ch 14

Maeve and Theo

Maeve was an assistant manager at Wayfair. It paid her enough to live and have luxury she wanted so she never complained. But her boss was a pain in the ass. He always questioned her about her relationship and tried to create tension between Theo and Maeve but they weren't some normal couple. When you have known and loved someone for then years it's rather not possible to break such bond. Maeve was done with her office work by six. Her would be mother-in- law called her.

Theo's mom: It's father's birthday tomorrow. You're coming right? We wanted a simple family dinner. No need to buy anything come casually.

Maeve: It's tomorrow? Ok sure. At what time do I need to come?

Theo's mom: One o clock would do it.

Maeve: One o clock?? Didn't you say it was for dinner?

Theo's mom: uhh.

Maeve: Oh sorry I didn't realise. For dinner we will need to start preparing from afternoon. I will be there by one. Bye.

She left the office to see Theo waiting for her. It was a daily routine. They hugged each other and stayed like that for a while. The entire day's irritation would go away at this. There was restaurant called Midnight snack. All their dates usually happened there. The lady who worked there had seen them for ten years. She served the food.

Lady: Are you two only dating? When will you get married?

Maeve: I want to get married. But marriage isn't cheap. I just paid off my student loan debt last year.

Lady: Your boyfriend is a professor now. And you have a stable paycheck. Though you may have less right now but it's all about saving up.

Maeve: There won't be anything created except debt slowly accumulating. Would you like to help me?

Lady: I don't even have money to stuff myself to death.

The lady went to do her chores.

Maeve: Look even at her age she doesn't have enough money. Money is something you never have.

Theo: If we never have money when will we ever get married?

Maeve: When we get money.

A soap opera was going on in the TV. It was the classic stay away from my son have this much money and leave thing.

Maeve: She should atleast check inside the envelope.

Theo: How much would you take to break up with me for?

Maeve: Probably a million dollars would do.

Theo: That was a fast answer. you must think about it often.

Maeve: It's not easy for a office worker to get one million dollar saved up.

Theo: I'll give you two million dollars, marry me then.

Maeve: Are you serious? Where will you get two million dollars?

Theo smiled and started to have his food ignoring the question.

Maeve: When will you get it?

Theo: Eat. Eat.

Maeve: Is your part time job a beggar or something?

Theo chuckled and continued to eat. After they were done with their food. They decided to go on a walk.

Maeve: Your mom called me. She said me "You'll come for father's birthday ,right?". Not can you come just direct you will have to. How could I decline after she asked me with such confidence?
