Ch 17

AVA

It was almost ten o' clock when Ava's work was done. She had got a message from one of her previous crushes in college. He had sent her his marriage invitation. Ava got into her car and called Kiera.

Ava: How can he send me his wedding invitation?

Kiera: He could. To put it bluntly, it's not like you two dated. Did you guys talk even?

Ava: Did I not talk to him because I didn't want to? Is it a roller coaster that I can pay for a ride? It needs to be mutual!!

Kiera: Right he is just a guy you liked briefly. Why overreact?

Ava: There is only one reason I'm mad. While others date around and get married, why am I still single?

Kiera: Being a person who has continuously dated I am nowhere either. Look I am single too.

Ava: Let us single people drink our sorrows then.

Kiera: Right now?

Ava: Should I go to your house or are you not at home?

Kiera: Oh I have plans.

Ava: With whom? The CEO.

Kiera: Yup, I can call Maeve.

Ava: No it's fine. Have a good date.

Kiera cut the call. Ava was cursing Kiera in her head but she was happy for her too. Ava tried calling Maeve but she wasn't answering. It was just not her day that day.

MAEVE

Maeve kept ignoring Ava's calls. She was at the company dinner and it would have been unethical. She had a workplace bestie named Stella.

Stella: How can you avoid fighting with your boyfriend?

Maeve: I am still fighting with him.

Stella: But you are okay with it? Doesn't it make you feel uneasy?

Maeve: We have dated for ten years. I've figured out the pattern now. Whenever one of us screws up, by now the other gives hints that they are in a position of no anger and ready to make amends. And then we ignore the problem and move on.

Maeve's boss: Did you have a fight with your boyfriend, Ms. Cruz?

Maeve: No.

Maeve's boss: I have ears too. I heard that you have fought with your boyfriend.

Maeve: You're quick to hear for no good. This is a compliment.

Maeve's boss: That's right my hearing is nice. But I think you should apologize to him. Who will you find now? You guys have dated for ten years.

Maeve: What are you trying to say?

Maeve's boss: Honestly, it's like this as you have dated for ten years, you've done everything already. You guys are practically married.......

The guy kept talking but Maeve had muted him in her head. Her boss was the worst, he had hit on her a few times and when he got to know that she was dating Theo, he became bitter.

KIERA

Kiera: Why are you standing outside?

Ian: So I can this for you.

He opened the car's door. He was such a sweetheart.

Ian: Let's go somewhere to eat. Shall we?

Kiera: Yeah.

We got in a very expensive looking restaurant. I hadn't been to places like this. We ordered some steak and fries. My mood was not in a good place after the fight I had with Caleb. What he said was right, I had only been in bad relationships, Ian would just hate me like others after this.
