KIERA
Five years later.
(2017)
Caleb asked me on text how I have been doing and I replied a happy answer. The fact that I was still friends with him and my feelings for him was still there was weird and sad on a different level.
Ryan had opened a restaurant and five of us were there celebrating. I kept staring at the empty seat beside me. I had a lot of drinks so vision was getting blurred. It was success for two people. Ryan's restaurant and Ava had cleared her bar exam from NYU. She was treating us but half of the things were on the house. It was double happiness but all I kept thinking was how good it would be if Caleb was here. I got out of the restaurant and there was a cute bench out there. Ryan was good in decorating. I sat there and called Caleb's number. It ringed and ringed. And he picked up. He usually didn't pick up. I thought the number was on no use anymore.
Kiera: You are picking up today. Huh. This is weird.
I saw a black sneaker walk towards me. He bent and I could see him. It was Caleb.
Caleb: Hey Kiera.
He said while holding on to the phone. I still am walking on my long time curse..
CALEB
Ryan had opened a new restaurant. Though we weren't best of friends anymore I felt like going there won't do any harm. I was heading over to the restaurant when I saw Kiera sitting on a bench calling someone. To my surprise she was calling me. I walked towards her and greeted her.
Kiera: He talks..
Caleb: You're drunk Kiera.
Kiera: You're drunk Kiera.. Imagining things.
She was totally dead drunk.
Kiera: Is this a dream?
Caleb: This isn't a dream. I'm real.
I said confirming her thinking she will understand me. But she started poking my face. That was still fine until she started coming close to me. Her lips looked so -- FUCK! Why was I thinking about her lips? I was trying to move back but how much could I? She took a sniff of me and said good smell.
Caleb: Good smell? Really no better adjective to describe me.
I said to her but I don't know if she could understand me or not. She started giggling on her own. Her smile always made me laugh. She had a weird snort while laughing. That was really funny.
KIERA
(next day)
Office was the boring time in my life. I worked for American Tower as a Minor Sales Executive. I wanted to be a calligrapher but only famous people earned through it. Until I am famous I had to live my life like this. I opened my purse for having a chewing gum. All of my business cards were missing. My wrist started paining too. 7 hours long work and then I could grab a bite. Then again 2 hours of meetings. Corporate world exhausted parts of you that you didn't even know existed. I called Maeve after leaving my office.
Kiera: Hey, Did I punch something yesterday? My wrist hurts.
Maeve: You did. To Caleb.
Kiera: Caleb? What are you talking about?
Maeve: Man. He enters Boston and you have dementia.
Kiera: He is in Boston! That wasn't a dream?
Maeve cuts the call. I should stop drinking. I can't remember shit.
