Her heart was filled with excitement as the cab drives her home. At least, she's finally going to be leaving the house for work even if it's just for q short moment.
Arriving at the front of the gate later, she hops out of the car and pays the man, but turning around to head to the building, she stops abruptly when she spots Nate standing with his hands tucked into his pockets. She hasn't stopped to think about what happened yesterday. How he's suddenly now her neighbor is what she hasn't brought herself to digest.
"I have been calling you, but you didn't answer your phone. Where did you go?" He asks once she stops in front of him.
"I went out. Why did you call me?" She asks, and he shrugs.
"Well, I wanted us to hang out together, and maybe go shopping. It has been a while since I last shopped, and you know, I just moved in here, and I still need to get some things," He explains to her, and she slowly nods her head.
"So, in summary, you're asking me to go to the mall with you to grab some things, right?" She asks like she doesn't understand him at first. He nods his head, regardless.
"I'm sorry, but I don't think..."
"Please, Lilian. I can't go there alone. I need someone to help me choose some stuffs there. I can't do it alone," He further pleads with her, and she sighs briefly. The fuck! She is not used to saying no to people, and he just fucking ripped her off her guard.
"Alright. I'll go with you," She blurts out, forgetting that Ren can't back and not meet her at home. Maybe she would just have to hurry up, so she won't get herself into trouble later.
His face beams excitedly like he just won a lottery. What the hell is so good about this girl that he's so happy to hang out with her?
"I'll go get my car and pick you up now," He says before he hurries away.
Stopping his white car in front of her minutes later, she walks over to the seat next to the driver's seat, hopping in afterward, and the drive to the mall begins.
Her mind is just occupied with the thought of her new job. Recalling how Ren threw her out that day, she can't help but ask why the sudden change of mind. The last time she checked, Ren hates her so much that he can't even stand her ugly presence, and to think that she's going to be working as his secretary now, and get to see him every day, makes her scoff.
"What are you thinking about?" His voice disrupts her, and she glances at him to meet his quick gaze, turning her face away afterward.
"Nothing," she shrugs, and he nods his head.
'You can't wear those rags to my company. You need something more professional' his words ring in her head, and she sighs briefly. This would've been a perfect time to get her dress, but she can't even afford it. What if she loses the job before she can even get it? There's no way she's ever going to let her first-ever job offer, slip off her fingers, just like that. It's not done that way.
For some seconds, she thinks of asking Nate to borrow her some money, but she decides against it. She doesn't even know anything about this young man, although it has been a couple of weeks since they have been hanging out. Not that she considers him her friend, anyway, so it'll make cheap, bringing herself to ask him for money.
"Are you sure you're ok? You don't look like you are," Nate squints his eyebrows, glancing at her. At this point, it seems like she can't hide it anymore. She needs this job more than anything, so this sacrifice shouldn't be a big deal, yeah? Besides, she's going to return the money to him later after she gets her pay from the company. Who knows, she may even raise another money to pay him before then, but that'll only take a miracle to happen.
"The thing is, I got a job lately in a company, and I kinda need to change my wardrobe..." She pauses and bites her bottom lip, thinking of how she's going to say this to him. This is literally her first time trying this, and as expected, it's so difficult to try.
"You need some money for it?" Seeing how difficult she's finding it to say, he helps her out, and she slowly nods her head, avoiding his gaze.
"I promise, Nate... I will return the money as soon as I get my first salary," She quickly says to him, and he rolls his eyes. What the hell! Is this what she was finding so difficult to say?
"How much do you need?" He asks, pulling over in front of the mall a few minutes later.
"Uhm... I think two hundred dollars will be fine to get the clothes," She says in a low tone.
"Two hundred dollars? Are you kidding me?" He chuckles softly, hopping out of the car, and she steps out also.
"It's fine if you don't have up to that amount. I can manage the amount you have," She quickly says, and he scoffs sarcastically.
"Is it a rag you want to buy, or office clothes?" He asks as they both walk side by side to the entrance of the mall. It's just 4pm, so the mall is still very much busy with many people hanging around the parking lot, and when they walk into the building, it was the same thing. Not that they expected less anyway. For a place that's so classy, they couldn't have ever run out of customers.
She bites her bottom lip and sighs briefly. She thought it would be selfish of her to ask more than that but turns out that she was mistaken.
Stepping into the mall, she's not surprised about the usual irritating stares she's getting from people around, and she can't help but feel bad. What the hell did she even come out here to do? She should've just stayed back at home. She's fucking embarrassed with all these stares. It's driving her crazy.
"Are you OK?" Nate's voice pulls her out of her train of thought, and she slowly raises her gaze to stare into his beautiful eyes, her heart misses a beat.
"Hmm," She nods her head and quickly turns her gaze away, even though it's obvious that she's not feeling comfortable here.
"Let's go grab some clothes over there," Her heart misses a beat when he interlock his fingers with hers, pulling her along with him to the corner of the mall, where different beautiful clothes are hanging. Her face drops disappointedly by the time she arrives, and all the clothes there are for slim girls. Of course, she saw a few that matches her taste, but what the hell is she supposed to do when none of them is her size?
"Baby, look at that. She's so fat and ugly," Hearing a whisper behind her, she tightens her fingers around Nate's, forgetting that they're still locking fingers. Her heart wrenches in pain, as tears suddenly threaten to escape her eyes, but she fights them back. It'll be more embarrassing to start crying here.
"Gosh! I'm glad you're not that fat. What the fuck did that dude see in her? She's so ugly," Another voice says behind her, and this time, Nate scoffs, removing his fingers from hers, and causing her to look up at him. Her heart hurts as the realization dawns on her that Nate might not want them to think that they're into something. Maybe he's embarrassed about her too. What the hell was she expecting, anyway.
"I guess you're this skinny because you don't mind your business," Hearing Nate's voice, her eyes slowly widen and she raises her gaze to see him glaring at the people that were just bullying her. Now that she looks at them, they look like they are couples...
