Chapter 26
An awkward silence assumes the air as she stands in his office, staring down at her feet while fondling with her nails. Her heart beats rapidly against her chest, scared of raising her gaze, for the fear of looking into his deadly eyes.
"What was that about, Lilian?" His cold voice sounds through her ears, and she feels her heartbeat stops for some seconds. How could she have said those words not minding that he might hear her? She just wanted to make herself feel good back there, and get on those bastards' nerves, she never knew it'd get her into a big mess.
"I'm sorry, Sir," She whispers, although he heard her very well.
"You're sorry? What the hell were you thinking? When the hell did I tell you that I got married to you? The fact that you acted as my substitute bride that day, doesn't give you the right to tell people that you are my wife!" He slams his hands on the table angrily as he springs up to his feet, and she flinches fearfully. Now, she regrets saying those words. If only the hands of time can be turned back, she would take back her words, and would never have tried spilling those shits about him.
"I didn't mean to get you mad... I'm sorry," She apologizes again, and he sighs briefly, throwing his head back in anger, trying to control himself.
"You know what? Just leave, please," He dismisses her, sitting back on his chair.
She turns and walks out of the office hurriedly without delay.
The rest of the day was just her doing her job diligently, and he finds her hard-working enough, which means that she may get a chance to work in the company for a long, but he has not decided on that yet though.
It's finally closing time, and Ren already left his office, leaving her to take care of things before she finally leaves for home.
"Finally!" She mutters as she turns the computer off, and stands up to her feet. The sound of her ringing phone suddenly pulls her attention, and she reaches out for it from her handbag. It's Nate.
"Hey," She blushes hard as she places the phone close to her ear.
"Hey! You're done with work yet?" His sexy voice sounds through the phone, and she nods her head like he can see her.
"Yes, I'm done," She finally replies to him.
"I just discovered a new restaurant. Let's go have dinner there together. I'm on my way to pick you up from the office," He says from the other end and smiles excitedly. Maybe her life would've been filled with so much pain without Nate.
"Sure! I'll be waiting for you," She says before the call finally ends, and she walks out of the office.
An hour later
Hanging out with Nate was as fun as expected, and soon, they set to go home.
"Did you have fun?" He asks as he drives down the road, and she nods her head with a smile playing on her lips. She did have so much fun.
"Yes, thank you," She blushes for no reason, and turns her face away.
The rest of the drive home is filled with silence, because, what would they be discussing? There's nothing to talk about, really.
"Thanks for the meal," She says to him once they are in front of Ren's house, and he nods his head.
"You're always welcome. You just started a new work, so you deserve it," He shrugs, and she smiles before she steps out of his car.
She walks over to the entrance door and pushes it open. Walking into the living room, she stops on her track as she finds Ren sitting in the living room with a deep frown on his face.
"Good evening, Ren," She says to him nervously, but his silence replies to her and she gulps down nothing nervously. She was thinking that he would be hanging out with his friends as usual, but how come he's here?
"Where are you coming from?" His voice is calm, yet filled with a dark aura.
"Uhm..."
"Who was that man that just dropped you off?" Still finding it difficult to answer the first question, he throws another one to her, as he finally raises his gaze to look at her keenly like he wants to see through her. Anger is written all over his face.
"That was Nate... He's my friend," She replies to him, whispering the last part, and biting her bottom lip.
"Your friend..." He scoffs as he stands up to his feet, trying so hard to control the anger that spurs through him. How dare she hangs out with another man when she's his alone? He fucking bought her with his money, so it's only right that he owns her alone, right?
"Who permitted you to hang out with anyone? Have you forgotten your place here? How dare you, Lilian? Is it because I'm not harsh?" He yells at her, and she flinches fearfully.
"You're my property, Lilian. I fucking bought you from your greedy mother. You are mine now, and the only person you should be with at all times!" He yells again, losing it. He shouldn't be angry, or what exactly is he mad about?
"You don't do things without my consent, which includes going out with another man! The fact that I gave you the privilege to work in my company, doesn't give you the right to do whatever you wish to do..." He runs his fingers through his hair angrily and bites his bottom lip again.
A drop of tears slid down her cheeks as she stares down at her feet. If only she was not stuck with this man, he wouldn't have been saying all of these to her. If it wasn't for her stepmother that gave her to this man, she wouldn't be going through this. It's hard being bullied by people, and still going through this too.
"Just look at yourself. You should be ashamed of your pathetic self, than throwing yourself in a man's arms. Your family rejected you because of your ugly self... They didn't want you, which was why you were given to me. I would've thrown you away if you were my daughter, so I don't blame them," He further says to her, and she slowly clenches her fists beside her.
'For how long do you want to stay like this? They will never stop bullying you, Lilian. You are a human, you should accept yourself as one. You have to make them stop bullying you!' Recalling those words, she glares hard at him like she'll devour him anytime soon.
"Your so-called friend must be blind..."
"Just stop it, Ren! Fucking stop!" She suddenly screams at the top of her voice as tears stream down her cheeks...
