Chapter 25
Three days later...
The sound of the blaring alarm pulls Lilian out of her deep slumber, and she groans tiredly as she tosses on the bed. It's finally Monday, the day she's supposed to start work at Bradford's company.
Standing up from the bed sluggishly, she drags herself to the bathroom and slams the door close as soon as she walks inside.
Staring at her reflection in the mirror after she washed her face, she sighs deeply. Yes, she's resuming work today in the company she has always been dreaming about, but she's not feeling too happy about it. The thought of the insults she may receive later is already discouraging her, but she knows that she has to do this. She really needs this job, and now that she got the opportunity, she should be happy, right?
"Don't think about it, Lilian. Just stay focused," She mutters to herself, before she strips out of her clothes, and hits the shower to have her bath.
Taking forever in the bathroom, she finally walks back into her room and gets dressed for work, before she finally leaves, once it's 7am. She should resume work by 8am, but she has to leave early, so she won't be late. Going late to work on her first day isn't a good way to impress her boss.
She finally strides out of her room and closes the door behind him.
Standing at the side of the room a few minutes later, waiting for a cab, Nate's car pulls over in front of her, and the tinted glass wine down, revealing the super hot young man, dressed beautifully. She can't help but check him out for seconds. Gracious lord! This man is so cute!
"Good morning, Lilian," He smiles at her, and she nods her head.
"Good morning, Nate," She returns the smile.
"It's Monday today, so it's going to be a bit hard to get a cab. Why don't you hop in so I'll drop you off at your office?" He offers, but she quickly shakes her head in denial.
"You don't have to worry, Nate. I'll be fine," She says, but he rolls his eyes at her.
"Come on, it's not a matter of being fine. You won't get a cab here, so just hop in," He further says, and this time, she has no choice. Allowing her stubbornness makes her late to work is what she knows she'll end up regretting later.
Walking over to the other side of the car, she hops in the back seat, and the drive begins.
He occasionally glances at her through the visor and sighs briefly. The thought of what happened days ago clouds his mind.
"About what happened earlier..." He pauses and bites his bottom lip. He wants to explain everything to her, but how the hell should he go about it?
"Sorry, you had to see that.," He says instead and sighs again.
"It's fine," She says, before staring out through the window.
The rest of the drive to the company is filled with silence, and they finally arrive after about twenty minutes of driving.
"Will you be free tonight? We can hang out, you know?" He offers as he hauls in front of the company.
"I don't know yet. If I am free, I'll give you a call. Thanks for the drive," She smiles at him excitedly.
"You're always welcome. If you need me to pick you up from the office later, just call me, and I'll be here for you," He further says, and she nods her head shyly before she steps out of the car with a wide smile playing on her lips.
"Bye-bye," She waves at him as he drives away, having a big smile on her face. She can't help the excitement that fills her heart. He keeps making her happy with the way he treats her.
Taking a deep breath, she turns and walks into the company.
Ignoring the usual weird stares as she steps into the lobby, she walks over to the elevator but stops on her track as soon as the elevator door opens, and she beholds about four people already inside.
Her heart sinks into her stomach as she suddenly becomes nervous, but she has to be strong, right?
She forces herself to walk into the elevator, ignoring the disgusting look on their faces.
"Shit! Look at her," She hears a female whisper behind her, and she slowly clenches her fist and bites her bottom lip. When the hell will she get to the fifth floor, and get the hell out of this damn elevator?
"She's so fat and ugly," Another female voice whispers, and she gulps down nothing.
"She looks like a balloon," The first one whispers again, followed by the only guy amongst them, laughing so hard.
"I wonder why boss had to accept her into the company to work as his secretary. What the hell did he see in her? She's so ugly, and I can't even stand her for a second. Gosh! I feel like throwing up," Hearing that from the only guy in the elevator, she lost it completely. For the first time in her life, she feels infuriated by what people say about her. She has never been so angry all her life.
The elevator door finally rolls open, and they all walk out, but sadly, all of them are trailing behind her like they are following her.
"Look at her, she's shapeless," The guy says again, and this time, she halts on her track. Taking a deep breath, she covers her sadness with a big smile, as she turns around to look at them.
"Are you all jobless that I suddenly become the only job you have? Why don't you spend your time minding your business, than going around talking about how people look?" She scoffs, as she crosses her arms on her chest, looking at them one after the other. It's her first time talking back at her bullies, and it kinda feels weird, but she won't back down though.
"Wh... What are you talking about?" One of the ladies speaks up, and she scoffs.
"Are you such a scared cat to even admit you were talking about me back in the elevator?" She scoffs confidently, and they all glance at each other.
"Hey, don't think you can come here and boss us, just because you are the CEO's secretary. You're an employee..."
"An employee that is better than you. Did you ask what the CEO saw in me? Well, what he didn't see in you, worth enough to be his secretary..." She pauses, and searches her mind for what else to say, and boom! It came.
"And guess what? Ren misses me so much every time, that he had to ask me to be his secretary. Bullying your boss's wife, do you want to lose your job?" She snaps at them, this time, her voice is very loud and filled with anger.
"Stop joking around. Whose boss? Ours? Don't tell me you're one of those crazy bitches throwing yourself at Mr. Ren? You'll never get a chance with him," One of the ladies says to her, and she scoffs.
"Well, let me introduce myself to you. My name is Lilian Bradford. Wife to Mr. Ren Bradford. If you want to confirm it, you can come over to his house and find out yourself," She smiles at them, turning around to leave, but she stops on her track as she finds Ren standing behind her with his hands in his pockets while having a deep frown on his face.
"I'm doomed!" She whispers to herself...
