Ren POV
"What did you say?" I itch my ears to be sure I heard her right.
"What? Do you think of yourself as a human? You're nothing, but a monster! Look at the post online, who is getting all the insults? Who is getting bullied there?" She yells at me as more tears stream down her cheeks. Her eyes are red with rage in them, and I can't deny the fact that I'm confused right now. Is this the same Lilian I know, or it's someone else posing to be her?
"Lilian..."
"What? 'She irritates me'... 'Of all women out there, why does he have to settle for less?'... 'She's so ugly. I can't even stand her'. They are saying all those words to me. I am a human too, Ren..." She pauses and scoffs as she flips her hair backward before she continues, "I deserve to be treated like one, and I won't have you, or anyone else treat me like a piece of trash, ever again! If you're scared of your reputation, then deal with it. I won't have you say trash to me anymore!"
"What? Are you shocked? You want me to go on my knees and beg you for forgiveness? You want me to come crawling in front of you and pleading with tears in my eyes like you are my creator? Never, Ren! I would never do such a thing, never again!" She roars, and I gulp down nothing as I stare at her, still unable to recover from the shock.
"I didn't do this, but I dare you to threaten me again, and you will regret it. What do you think will happen to your reputation when I tell the media that you forced me to donate blood to your so-called fiancee? How do you think people will see you when they find out that your so-called fiancee broke up with you because of your promiscuous lifestyle?" She smirks at me, and I gasp sharply.
"I'm sure you wouldn't want that to happen, right?" She chuckles softly, and I feel my heart sink into my stomach.
"I am not your slave that you can treat anyhow you like it, Ren... I am not your slave!" She further yells at me, and with that, she storms out of the office and slams the door behind her, while I stand rooted to the spot, shocked.
"What just happened?" I mumble, turning to glance at the closed door before I finally walk my way into my office, slamming the door hard behind me. I think I'm in a deep mess. With the way she spoke, I need no one to tell me that she knows nothing about this, and now I can't lose guard, because I know she can do what she threatened to do.
The sound of my ringing phone pulls my attention, and I reach out for it since I dropped it on my desk when I came in just now. My heart sinks into my stomach as soon as I see the caller to be my mom. She must've seen the news, and I'm in trouble now.
I watch the call ring and drop dead, and a few minutes later, my phone rings again, but this time, it's my sister, Rena. Well, I haven't mentioned anything about my sister yet, because she doesn't live in the country. She has been out of the country for ten years, and I have no idea when she will be back since she's handling the family business over there. We rarely talk since we're both busy with our jobs, but seeing her call now, I think she must've heard or seen the trending news on the internet. I hesitate before I answer the call.
"You punk! How dare you ignore my call?" Mom's angry voice snaps through the phone as soon as I answer the call, and I quickly remove the phone from my ear. What the hell was that? Wait! How come mom has Rena's phone?
"Mom... I wasn't with my phone when you called..." I stutter nervously, my heart beating rapidly against my chest.
"You liar! What the hell am I seeing on the internet? I thought you got rid of all the traces, how could you be so careless?" She snaps at me, and I sigh briefly.
"Mom, I will fix this, okay? I promise to fix it," I say to her even if I know that there's a little chance of me getting this fixed. I need to know who did this first. I think someone is stalking me or something.
"You better get it fixed before I lose it," She snaps at me before her voice fades away.
"Hey, Ren," Rena's voice sounds through the phone, and I sigh briefly as I throw myself on the chair.
"Rena... How come you're with mom?" I ask her.
"I got back yesterday night, and I was still going to call you later. Wait a minute, did you really marry that girl?" She asks, and I scoff.
"Are you kidding me? I didn't marry her..."
"I like her. She doesn't look bad," She whispers over the phone, and I need no one to tell me that mom must be around there which must've made her whisper, but wait! What the hell did she just say? She likes Lilian? That must be the craziest thing to even think of.
"I need to go now," I end the call and drop my phone on the desk, releasing a deep sigh afterward.
'I am not your slave, Ren! I am not your slave' her words replay in my head, and I scoff unbelievably. Where the hell did that audacity come from? What came over her?
Releasing a deep sigh, I pick up my phone and check the pictures again. I scroll down to the comment section, and what I see there makes my heart sinks into my stomach. They keep calling Lilian names and everything. What the hell! One even said that she used a spell on me which was why I married her.
Although I may be a cold-hearted person that doesn't even give a dam about her, but after seeing all these comments which are enough to throw anyone into depression, I feel so sad for her. For the first time since I met her, I feel pity for her. For the first time, I feel what I'm doing is wrong. Even if she was not born lucky, she doesn't deserve all the pain she's going through now. She's a human and should be treated like one...
