Chapter 32
Nate POV
'Can you give me your number? I just want us to be in touch, and nothing else' her words replay in my head as I sit in the lobby while waiting for the doctor to send for me. I have been here for over twenty minutes, but the doctor seems to still be busy with some patients in the ward, so I was asked to wait for him in the lobby.
'I'm sorry about everything, Nate' I sigh deeply as her words ring in my head again. Why the hell can't I still get that out of my head no matter how much I try to? This is annoying and driving me crazy.
Still lost in thoughts, my phone suddenly starts ringing and I quickly remove it from the pocket of my jacket where it has been hiding since, and checking the screen, I can't help the smile that spread on my lips upon seeing Lilian's name displayed on the screen. We haven't talked since yesterday, and I'm sure she must've been worried about me.
"Hey! I have been calling you since yesterday but you didn't answer my call. Do you know how much I've been worried about you?" She yells from the other end as soon as I slide the answer button, and I quickly remove the phone from my ear to avoid her loud voice hurting my eardrum.
"Lilian..."
"Where the hell are you now?" She snaps at me for the second time, and I squint my eyes. Although I can hear her voice that she's the one, but I'm not convinced yet. The Lilian I know is not a loud person. She rarely talks maybe because she was bullied by people, or maybe she is just an introverted person.
"The doctor wants to see you now, Mr. Nate," A nurse walks up to me and announces before I can reply to Lilian.
"I would have to call you back, Lilian..."
"Are you sick? Did you catch a fever? You're in the hospital? Where's the hospital? I'll meet you there, now," She says worriedly, and I can't help the butterflies flying in my stomach. No one has ever been so worried about me, not even my mom, and now that she is giving me this treatment, I feel so weird, and at the same time so happy that she actually cares about me.
"You are at work now, and you should focus, okay?" I say to her as I finally walk down the hallway that leads to the doctor's office.
"Does that matters now? Where are you, Ren?" She asks for the second time, but I disconnect the call and keep my phone in my pocket before I walk into the doctor's office.
"Nate... It has been a while," Mr. Alex, my personal doctor says as I take a seat across from him.
"Yeah. I have been busy with work," I reply to him, and he nods his head.
"That's good. So, to what do I owe this visit? Are you sick?" He asks, and I nod my head. Not that I will come here if I'm not sick anyway.
"Yes. I've been feeling a bit down since yesterday night after I returned from work. I'm kind of feeling dizzy and weak," I complain to him.
"Sorry about that. You must've been stressed lately. I'll take your blood pressure first before I conduct a medical test on you," He says as he reaches to the cabinet of his desk, getting his apparatus for checking blood pressure, I don't know what that is called. You won't blame me, right? I mean, I'm not a medical personnel, so you aren't expecting me to know all of their equipments, right?
I sit patiently as he fixes them in my body and starts his work. After repeating the same routine of pumping the thing tied around my hand, he finally remove the ear tube from his ears and hang it around his neck before reclining on his chair.
"What have you been thinking about lately, Nate? Your blood pressure is high and currently reading 140/90mmHg..." He says, and my eyes slowly widen in shock. What the hell! Why would my blood pressure be so high when I've not been stressed or thinking about things?
"I've not been thinking about anything," I reply to him, and he sighs briefly.
"Then I think you should get some rest. You may be stressed mentally. The blood pressure is the reason why you have been having all those symptoms, so I'll prescribe some medicines for you to take later to control it," He says to me, and I slowly nod my head.
After spending another ten minutes in the doctor's office talking about my health, I finally leave to go home.
Walking down the lobby minutes later and heading to the exit door, I stop on my track and my mouth drops open when the door barge opens and I see Lilian running in like she's being chased by a ghost.
"Lilian?" I call her attention when I see her stop in the lobby and looking around.
"There you are," She sighs as she runs over to me, breathing heavily.
"What are you..."
"What am I doing here? Do you consider me your friend? Why would you be sick and refused to tell me about it?" She snaps at me, looking so angry, but I can only stare at her in shock. Wait a minute, did she rush down here because of me?
"I have been calling you nonstop since yesterday and you never answered your phone, do you know how worried I was?" She sneers at me for the second time as tears well up in her eyes.
"Are you only going to stare at me like I'm fooling around?" She yells at me as her tears finally find their way down her cheeks, but I'm just too shocked to open my mouth.
"What if something had happened to you, huh? What if you had..." I grab her hand and pull her into my arms before she can finish her statement. If she did this to impress me, then it fucking worked because I don't know what I'm feeling right now.
"What... What are you doing?" She stutters as she tries to free herself, but who says that I'm going to let her go especially now that she gives me the warmth I want?
"People are watching you... Let go of me," She whispers, and I smile.
"Just stay still, Lilian. You want me to be fine, right? Then this will make the sickness go," I say to her, and I feel her sigh as she finally relaxes in my arms. Some people are throwing glances at us, some whispering as always, but do I care? I don't give a damn about what they say about her...
