Ren's office
Sitting behind his desk in the spacious office, Ren's attention is all on the computer as he types his time away.
The sound of the office telephone ringing pulls his attention from his work, and he picks up the phone without looking away from the screen of the computer.
"Ren Bradford on the line. Who am I speaking with, please," He says on the phone as soon as he answers the call.
"Hello, Mr. Ren. This is Mr. Mike from Bridges. Do you mind having dinner with me tonight? I would like to talk about the contract with you," the masculine voice sounds through the phone, and he sighs briefly. This is supposed to be a thing of joy for him since he has been wanting this contract for so long, but he's not in the mood for that. He just wants to be left alone, get distracted, and stop himself from thinking about Tracy that's likely to have moved on with her life now.
"I'm not free, Mr. Mike. Can we make it some other time?" He sighs briefly, reclining on the chair, and rubbing his forehead lazily.
"No, Mr. Ren. My boss will be coming with me later, and you two need to see so you can talk properly about the contract," The masculine voice further says, and he sighs again. He would've really loved to, but he's not in his right frame of mind right now, and he may mess things up later at the date. That'll be the worst mistake of his life. Since it's very important, maybe sending someone there won't be a bad idea.
"Can I send someone on my behalf, instead?" He asks.
"Sure, you can. As long as the person is experienced, then it's fine with my boss," The voice sounds from the other end, and he heaves a sigh of relief.
"Alright. I will do that later then," He says to the person before the call finally drops dead, and he drops the phone back on the desk.
Reaching out for his phone laying on the desk lazily, he picks it up and unlocks it, revealing Tracy's picture on the screen. He bites his bottom lip and sighs deeply. Even though they have called off the engagement, he still can't bring himself to get rid of her photo on his phone screen.
He clicks on the 'contact' icon, displaying Tracy's number. He wanted to dial her number, but he stops to think about it. What's there to talk about with her? She won't want to talk with him, anyway. So why should he bother calling her? Deciding against it, he drops the phone and continues his work. As for the dinner appointment, maybe sending his secretary there later won't be a bad idea.
The sound of the knock on the door pulls his attention minutes later, and he raises his gaze to look at the glass door, revealing his secretary, Jessica.
"Come in," he ushers her in, and the door opens before she walks in elegantly, carrying her shoulders with esteem.
"Good day, Sir," she greets him politely, and he nods his head. He and this young lady have been into some shitty sexual relationship, but he quit with her some time ago because he wanted to be faithful to Tracy. Look where it ended his life. It was all his fault, anyway.
"What is it, Jess?" He asks, finally raising his gaze to look at her, and turns out that she's sexy as always, but he's not fucking interested in that now.
"Sir, I will be away for some time, so I want to take a leave for three months," It takes her some minutes before she musters the courage to break the news to him, causing him to squint his eyes.
"Where are you going?" He asks in return.
"Uhm... I'm going to see my boyfriend, so we can plan out our wedding," She replies to him, causing him to glance at her unbelievably. Wow! The secretary he used to have dirty affairs with is going to be getting married, and here he is, still single. As much as he wants to say that life is unfair to him, he can't possibly put the blame on innocent life, since it was all his fault.
"Alright," He says to her, not asking any further questions. He's not in the mood for that now, so it's fine.
"I can really go? You're not angry?" She blinks her eyes in shock, and he shrugs as he glances at her.
"Why should I be angry? I'm not," He replies to her, and she slowly nods her head. She didn't expect that it was going to be this easy. Wait! Was he looking forward to sacking her before?
"Tell the HR to find me another secretary. I want it to be done within today and tomorrow," He says, his eyes glued to the computer, and she slowly nods her head.
"Alright, sir. I will do that, right away," She says before she exits the office, while he continues with his work.
A few minutes later, the sound of the knock pulls his attention, and he sighs frustratingly, touching his forehead. Who the hell is disturbing him again? Can't they just let him be?
"Come in," he utters, not bothering to check whoever is at the door.
"Sir, the lady that came to seek for a job some weeks ago, do you want me to call her to come and resume? It'll be difficult to find a secretary in forty-eight hours, and also, it won't be easy to see someone that'll be qualified for the job," his HR, Chris suggests after he walks up to him.
"What lady?" Confused, Ren asks.
"I mean Lilian Sanchez," Hearing this from Chris, he can't help the scoff that tears through his throat. This dude is not joking with him, right? There's no way he's ever going to employ someone like that to work with him, never!
"Find someone else to do it. It can be anyone else, but not her. You may leave now," He says to Chris dismissively.
"Sir, I believe the lady has hidden potential that'll help out the company in the future. You should give this a try, and I promise that you won't regret it later," Chris further says, trying to sound as convincing as he can.
Staring at Chris unbelievably, he can't help but ask himself to know if this young man is talking about the same Lilian living in his house, or if there's another. What the hell is so good about that fat ugly girl? What potential is he possibly talking about? Now that he thinks of it, he can't help but get more curious. Of course, anyone would be when you think of what the young man must've seen in him.
"Chris, are you sure about this?" He finds himself asking him. Why the hell is he even asking this question? Can't he just tell him that he doesn't want her?
"Yes, Sir. Just give her a try, and if she doesn't match your taste later, you can let her go. But I assure you that you will be impressed with her," His last word makes him roll his eyes sarcastically because it's crazy. What the hell would he be impressed about? He has been living with her, and she has never done anything to impress her, so? The only reason he's going to give her a chance is because of his curiosity to know what's so special about her, and also because his HR has the best eyesight in the company. Aside from that, nothing would've made him do this.
"Alright, I'll give her a try. Send her an email, and tell her to come to the company tomorrow for the final interview," He says to Chris...
