Chapter 8
"You can't do this to me, Ren. You can't force me to donate blood to a stranger..."
"Point of correction, she's not a stranger. That woman in there is my woman. She was my supposed bride. Her life matters to me..."
"Even if mine doesn't matter to you, it does matters to me. You can't just bring me here and expect me to donate blood to someone, just because you want me to. That is inhumane," She cries out, shaking her head. She's a human, even if she's ugly and fat. She was aware of his hatred for her, but she never imagined that he'd do this to her. What has she ever done to him?
"You have no right to say 'no' to me, Lilian. You belong to me, and you must do whatever I want you to do. If anything happens to that woman in there, you are going to spend the rest of your life regretting it, I promise you!" He snaps at her, and she flinches fearfully. They have arrived at the hospital for close to twenty minutes now, and she has refused to donate blood to Tracy.
She scoffs as more tears stream down her cheeks. Her life means nothing to no one, and it is painful. As much as she wants to accept her fate and live with it, she still feels bad whenever she thinks about the painful life she's living.
Slowly, she tilts her head to glance at Tracy through the transparent door, and she can't help but cry more. She wishes she has someone ready to sacrifice something for her, she wishes she has someone in her life that's willing to protect her, just the way Ren is doing to. Tracy now, but just as they say, life is not a bed of roses. She wasn't born lucky. Even her mom rejected her, what should she expect from other people?
"I will do it," She nods her head as she finally tilts her head to look at Ren, who's already growing impatient.
"I will donate as much blood as I can, to save her life. I will give her all my blood if you want me to. That is fine by me," The pain in her voice as she tries to fight back her tears. There's no point in crying, knowing that it'll never solve any of her problems, she shouldn't feel bad about anything. Besides, she's not living a worthwhile life, so does it matter if she ends up dying while giving out the blood? Nobody will care about her death anyway.
"I'll go get the doctor," He says before he walks away, leaving her in tears.
"Don't cry, Lilian. It's not worth it. There's no point. You're worthless, you should remember this. Your life matters to no one... You have no reason to live anyway," She whispers to herself as she crashes her back against the wall and slowly clenches her fists as her heart feels on fire.
The footsteps drawing close to her pull her attention, and she stands up to see the doctor and Ren walking toward her.
"Don't think about it, Lilian. You two fates at this point. Either you survive this, or you don't. Nobody will remember you even if you don't," She says to herself.
"You need to sign this paper before we proceed," The doctor hands her a paper as soon as he gets to where she's standing, and without hesitation, she grabs the paper from him and signs it, not even bothering to go through it. Because why should she read before signing? Not that it'll change anything anyway.
"This way," The doctor says to her, holding the door to ER wide open for her, and she walks in without a second thought. Stepping into the ER, she stares at Tracy's face for seconds, but all she feels is emptiness in her heart. She has no idea whether to feel sad, pained or maybe cry. Just this afternoon she got married to this same man probably because his woman got into an accident, she was bullied there while he watched her with a satisfied look on his face, she was the one that has been going through all the pain, and now he wants to sacrifice her for the one he loves? How wicked?
"This way, please," The doctor points to the bed beside Tracy's bed, and she sighs briefly before going to lay on it as she stares up at the ceiling. The thought of her dad flashes through her mind, and she closes her eyes as a drop of tears slid down the corner of her cheek. What if she dies now? She won't ever get to see her beloved dad again?
"Are you ready for this?" The doctor's voice sounds through her ears while still closing her eyes, and she slowly nods her head.
Minutes later, she feels a needle pierce through her skin, and she slowly opens her eyes as she realizes that her blood is already being transfused to Tracy.
Laying there for twenty minutes and staring up at the ceiling as more tears stream down her cheeks, her heart feels like it's being ripped off her chest, she feels empty from within.
Her eyes suddenly feel heavy, and her head spins as she feels so dizzy. She tries to keep her eyes open, but they're too heavy to work, so she slowly closes them and blacks out.
Forcing her eyes open two hours later, the blurry white ceiling welcomes her and she closes them back as she groans tiredly.
"Where am I?" She asks herself as she touches her forehead.
"You're awake?" Lisa's voice echoes in her ear, causing her to slowly tilts her head to see her sitting beside her.
"I'll go get the doctor," Lisa tries to stand up, but she slowly shakes her head.
"No, I'm fine. Uhm... Lisa... Can you please get me a can of milk? I'm feeling dizzy," She groans as she tries to sit up on the bed, but her body feels weak, and she lay back on the bed.
"Sure, I'll get it for you," Lisa quickly stands up and hurries out of the room.
She finally forces herself to sit up on the bed and sighs deeply.
The sound of the ringing phone on the small table beside the bed pulls her attention, but she ignores the call.
Lisa returns to the room minutes later with the milk and hands it to her.
"Your phone rang while you were out," She says to Lisa after she gulps down the milk.
"No, that's not mine. The phone kept ringing in your room earlier, so I had to bring it for you on my way here. Is it not yours?" Lisa pulls a puzzled look.
"No, that's not mine," She says, reaching out for the phone. She clicks on the power but sighs as Nate's picture pops on the screen of the phone. She must've switched it with his phone when he dropped her off at home earlier...
