Chapter 61
Lilian POV
It was fun cooking with Nate. I had no idea he was a great cook until today, and I enjoyed every second spent in the kitchen with him. It also gladdened my heart because it was a way of reducing work for the maid, and seeing the excitement on her face when I served her food told me that I made the right decision coming here to cook today.
"I didn't know you were so good at cooking," I broke the awkward silence as we ate in the dining room later, and he raised his gaze to look at me, and smiled.
"Yeah. You can't grow up with my mom and not know how to cook as her child. I learned it from her," He replied to me, and I could only admire his perfection. What would it look like to have such a handsome gentleman that could cook and do things, as my man? I would be the luckiest bitch on earth, trust me.
"Your Mom must be a good disciplinarian, I guess," I smiled at him, and he nodded his head.
"Yeah, I won't say you're wrong if you say that. She was really a good one, and she still is up until now," he replied to me, and I smiled.
"You are not bad, yourself. You helped me a lot, and I'm grateful. It's nice to have you here," the way he made me blush with everything he said to me was bursting my head, and I kept falling for him over and over again.
"You haven't told me about your company yet," I said after a long silence. I knew I was being too noisy and meddlesome, but it would be awkward if everywhere was silent. I didn't want anything that would make me feel uncomfortable.
"I took over the family business. Our company is one of the most successful companies in five countries with shareholders with other companies. There is nothing much to know about it. My life has become boring after I became the CEO," he shook his head and rolled his eyes.
"You don't like it there?" I asked him, and he shrugged.
"You can say that again. It's boring sitting behind the desk all day, but what can I do? I wish I could run away from here, but not when I have my Mom on my neck. She would go to Mars and Jupiter to find me if I try that shit," he uttered, then chuckled.
"That's sad. You'll eventually get used to it," I assured him.
"Yeah... Yeah, although it may take some time. Why don't we eat, huh? We can talk all we want after eating, don't you think?" He raised his eyebrows, and I quickly nodded my head.
"I'm sorry, I was carried away," He smiled and nodded his head. We ate silently afterward, and after we were done, we did the dishes together although he insisted that I don't worry about it. Well, that'll be the craziest thing I ever did if I listen to him and allowed him to do the dishes alone, or leave it for the maid to take care of it.
"Should I show you around the house, hmm?" He asked after we were done with the dishes, and I quickly nodded my head excitedly. Won't it be nice to spend a lot of time with him?
He took me to tour around his house, and soon, we were in the garden. It turned out that the one I saw earlier wasn't a garden, but here was the real garden. It was a home for beautiful flowers, a beautiful sight to behold.
"Wow!" My mouth dropped in awe at the beauty of the garden. No single place here was left out of the beauty, and I liked that about the house. Now, I was getting curious to know who really owned the house. Did he buy the house or did he rent it?
"Sorry to ask, I'm just curious. Did you buy this house?" I asked him, and he shrugged as he smiled.
"Are you curious?" He asked me as he leaned close, and my heart froze in my chest as his eyes bored into mine calculatingly. Seeing his Adam's apple moving seductively made me bite my bottom lip, and my fingers itched to touch it.
"I didn't buy the house... This was my Dad's penthouse. I'm the owner now since he is no more," he straightened his back, and I released the breath I'd been holding unknowingly. The way he acted around me had me questioning myself if he was in love with me. Is he feeling the same way I felt toward him? I asked myself for the umpteenth time as I watched him stare into space with an unreadable expression on his face, and I got curious about what he was thinking.
"You're good?" I asked him, and he glanced at me.
"Yeah, I'm fine. I'm just thinking... You must've been through shits while I was away, yeah?" He sounded concerned as he sighed, crossing his arms on his chest, and I bit my bottom lip. Well, things weren't so difficult for me when he left since Ren was always there for me, the only difficulty I faced was missing him.
"No, it wasn't that hard," I replied to him, and he sighed as he turned to face me.
"I was worried about you every day..." He paused, then held my shoulders while his eyes were boring into mine like he wanted to see through me.
"I felt bad for leaving you alone, and whenever I imagined how sad and betrayed you'd feel that I never said goodbye, I felt guilty and regretted leaving in the first place," His voice was filled with concern, and his eyes gave me this chill I couldn't explain, and I felt safe in his arms. It felt good having him stare at me in a way that no man has ever looked at me before.
"I'm so annoying, right?" He sighed, dropping his hand from my shoulders, but I quickly shook my head.
"No, you are not. I've never thought of you being annoying because I know you had your reasons for being like that. I'm not mad at you," I quickly shook my head again, and he smiled.
"I'm glad... So, what about your deal with Ren? Has it been settled?" He asked, turning to face me fully while tucking his hands inside his pockets this time.
"Yeah. I was able to buy my freedom from him..." I paused when I recalled that he returned the cheque to me. Damn! That annoying jerk.
"Is everything alright? Why do you look sad?" He asked me, but I covered it up with a smile.
"I'm fine," I replied to him, and he nodded his head.
"It's all thanks to you that I was able to buy my freedom, so I'm forever grateful to you," I said to him, and he sighed.
"Yeah...yeah. Let me see that," He said, referring to my phone which was held firmly in my hand, and I handed it over to him. I watched as he typed in something, followed by his phone ringing.
"Here. I took your number. We need to communicate," he stated, showing me the screen of his phone. He already saved my number.
"Hmm," I nodded my head...
