Chapter 17: Movie night

POV: 3rd Person

In the morning, the group woke up, each deciding to do their own things. Shadow drank some coffee then rode his bike to the park to read his book, not wanting to be bothered. Rouge wandered around town, looking for things to do. Amy went to work at her new Job, and so did Knuckles. And Tails took Sonic to the store so they could buy things that the fox needed for school. Tails quickly found everything he needed and put it in the cart. Sonic had an idea and turned to his younger brother "Hey, maybe we should stock up on some food and snacks for the house. That way we don't have to keep buying one meal at a time." Tails nodded and gave him a thumbs up "That's a really good idea. We might have to use the currency exchanger and take some of Shadow's money though."

Sonic tilts his head and stops on an empty isle asking the fox "How much does Shads have anyway? He bought a brand new bike, paid for our beds and some food, and then gave out almost $400 like it was nothing. How rich is he?" Tails chuckles and pulls out his device to show the curious blue hedgehog. The screen reads 'Shadow Hedgehog: account balance $135,657.97' The blue hedgehog widens his eyes and opens his mouth in shock, sputtering out "Wh-what the- he? What?!" Tails chuckles and withdraws $500 before replying "That's pretty much what I said. He said he was paid a lot of money because they valued him the most. Also he didn't need to spend his money on things unless he wanted to, so he just saved most of it. He also said that he threatened to kill all of G.U.N. if they didn't give him raises when he wanted them." Sonic just remains shocked for a few seconds before shaking his head. "Ok then. I guess it's time to buy some food."

They finish shopping and head back home, putting everything away. Tails gets his backpack ready for tomorrow and sets it in the closet by the front door so he can just grab it before he leaves. Whatever money was left over, the two brothers split, figuring they'd need it anyway. At about 12 Rouge came back, and told the brothers about what she found. "I went around town today to see what places were around us. I saw a couple clothing stores aside from the one Amy works at. A bunch of different restaurants, a movie theater, an arcade, a comic store, and a few odds and ends places like thrift stores and appliance shops." She held up a peice of paper "But I also found this."

The paper had a familiar symbol in the corner with the words 'Reward for anyone who reports mobians who display special abilities to this number. 1 800-486-2677. Abilities include, but are not limited to, flying that doesn't pertain to the animal species, super strength, super speed, teleportation, telekinesis, mind reading, or anything else that seems to be out of the ordinary. We want to keep everyone safe from these threats and appreciate any info about the whereabouts of any mobian matching these descriptions.' "Threats?" Tails asks, reasonably confused. Rouge shrugs and puts the paper down on the table. "They clearly have different opinions about powers here. It's probably because Sonic never saved this world. I did some more digging and it seems that Sonic was never born here." Tails just hums in thought before replying "Well, when I go to school tomorrow I'll do some research and figure out who put these papers and signs around the town. And maybe try to get more info about why they want to be alerted."

The three of them decide to make sandwiches for lunch, and chat until the others got home. Amy and Knuckles both got off at 2 and got home around 3. Knuckles was sore from showing people how to punch all day, and Amy's feet hurt from standing most of the day. Amy sat by Sonic and smiled at him, preparing herself to ask him out.

POV: Sonic

"I was wondering if you'd go to the movies with me tonight. I heard there's a good classic movie playing at 6." Amy says to me with her eyes fluttering. I shrug 'I guess a movie can't hurt.' "Sure. Why not? I don't have anything to do tonight anyway." I reply, earning a death grip hug from her. I grunt and push her away, wanting to breathe. "Amy, I have to breathe if you want me going alive." She pouted and looked down "Sorry, I was just happy you said yes." I roll my eyes and smirk "Yeah, yeah." 'I'm only going because I don't want to be stuck with Shadow again.' I think to myself, looking at the female hedgehog next to me, chatting away.

After a little while of all of us chatting Shadow comes home. I watch as he goes through the living room, straight to his room without saying a word. Suddenly there's a pink hand waving in front of my face. I snap back to reality, not realising I was zoned out, and Amy questions me "Why were you staring at Shadow?" I turn back to her and blush ever so lightly "Sorry Ames, I didn't even know that I was." I chuckle and give her a smile. "

It gets close to 5 before I stand up "Alright, I'm going to take a shower and get ready before we go." After my shower Amy meets me in the living room and we head out. She smiles at me while we walk together. "Soo. Do you like my new dress?" I shrug my shoulders, 'It's just a dress' "Yeah"  I reply as we continue walking. We finally get to the movie theater and I pay for the popcorn and tickets. "So, what's this movie about anyway?" I ask, she just shrugs "I don't know. Rouge recommend it. All I know is it's a romantic movie." I grimace, and sigh "Ugh, a romance? Really? What's up with everyone around me liking Romance. You with your movies, Tails and Shads with the books. Oops- forget what I said" 'shit, I revealed his secret. He's gonna kill me' She cocks her head to the side and raises one eyebrow "Shads- I mean Shadow likes romance books?" I facepalm and nod "Yeah. He's been reading The Fault in Our Stars. He'll kill me if he found out I revealed his secret. Please don't tell him that you know." She smiles and chuckles "So that's what he was reading last night. I won't tell him." We walk in to the theater and get our seats, snacking on the popcorn while we wait for the movie to start.

The title comes on the screen finally, displaying 'Cry Baby'. I watch in boredom for a while until Johnny Depp comes on screen. Every scene with him captivates me for some reason. Especially the scene where he sings "Please Mr Jailer" and the scenes where he's on his bike. 'Damn. Why do I feel this way? No- I can't be. Theres no way' Amy then says beside me as he comes on screen again "He's hot~" I feel my face is burning and I nod, replying without thinking about it "Yeah~. He is." She gasps and I realise I responded out loud. I chuckle nervously and rub the back of my head, my face turning a darker shade of red. "Heh, I mean, what I meant to say, was yeah. I can see why you might say that. Obviously I don't think he's hot. That would be weird, right? so don't think that's what I meant." I laugh nervously "Oh my god" She says quietly before covering her mouth and turning back to the movie in silence. 'What was that about?' We finish the movie and walk out, throwing our popcorn trash away. I go to the bathroom real quick to wash my hands. I look up in the mirror 'damn. My face is very red.' I splash some water on my face and groan. 'Fuck, I might be attracted to a dude' I walk back out and catch up to Amy. "That was an ok movie I guess. Thank you for inviting me." She just shrugs her shoulders and continues walking "Ames, what's up? Did I make you upset? Was the movie not that good to you?" I get no response.

She continues in silence until we get on the sidewalk on the way home. She turns to me with her eyes watering "Sonic.. do. Do you even like me?" I furrow my eyebrows in confusion, tilting my head. "Of course I do Ames. You're like my little sister." She bursts out in tears "Yeah. Like your sister. Not your girlfriend. Do you even like girls?" I scratch the back of my head "I'm sorry Ames, I wish I liked you the way you want me to. And honestly? I don't know if I like girls or not. I don't think I've really liked ANYONE before, so I have no idea what kind of person, or gender I like." She sniffles and wipes her tears. "Well, I just hope that whoever you end up with treats you the way you deserve. You deserve happiness. Remember that. And the movie was good, by the way."

We walk home, talking about scenes we enjoyed, and scenes we didn't like. We make it home and I sigh before we enter the door, nervous to face everyone with my new thoughts about myself still fresh on my mind. Rouge and Knuckles are sitting on the couch, flirting with each other, and Tails is in the kitchen setting up the table for dinner. Shadow is sitting there on the chair, reading his book. 'He looks so peaceful when he reads' I think. I don't realise I'm staring again until he looks up at me. My breath pauses and so does my heart. I quickly look away and enter the house the rest of the way, heading to the kitchen with Tails.
