Chapter 13: Book

POV: 3rd Person

There they were, the two hedgehogs on the ground in an awkward position, and the Fox standing in the doorway. Tails started to back up, not wanting to witness, whatevers going on. But sonic shouts "Wait, Tails, buddy. Help me out. I was trying to see what book Shads was reading. He's a lil mad" the blue male chuckles and Shadow growls again, pressing him more into the floor. "What do you know of the Fault in Our Stars?" The blue male asked after wincing slightly in pain. He knew he was getting himself in even deeper trouble, but he could handle it. He just had to know. Tails cocked his head before blushing, embarrassed of what he thought was going o. He chuckles quietly and face palmed "Ohhh. I thought you two- never mind. Anyway. Fault in Our Stars? Thats a romance book. Shadow? You like romance books?" The black and red hedgie sighed and sat up sitting on sonic for a bit before deciding to get off and sit on the floor with his arms limp. 'We'll, I guess there's no use hiding it now, they were probably going to figure it out sooner or later' he thought before answering "Yeah, I do." He looked up and glared at each of the boys in the room "And DONT you DARE tell anyone or make fun of me for it."

Sonic chuckled, sitting up and rubbing his wrists, that now hurt. "Aww Shads. I won't make fun of you. It's surprising, but if it's your preference, then it's your preference. I just wanted to know why you were so defensive about it. I thought it might have been porn" he chuckles again and watches as his black and red counterpart takes on a deep red tint. "Absolutely not" he quickly states, repulsed by the idea of reading... that. Tails just chuckles and smiles "Actually shadow, I've read that book. It's really good. I hear the movie is coming out soon. I saw an ad on a billboard for it while I was walking back home." Shadow just raises his eyebrows and widens his eyes in surprise. "Wait really? So neither of you care that I like romance books? I mean thats not all I read, but still." They both chuckle and shake their head, Sonic responding with "No, Shads. It just surprises me that you're a hopeless romantic type."

The dark hedgie huffs and crosses his arms "I am not." The other two in the room just roll their eyes at the childish behavior. Sonic looks to Shadow "Soooooo are we good again Shads? Sorry for invading your personal space, but it's your fault for making me so curious." He just shrugs and responds "As long as you don't make fun of me, I guess I'll forgive you." Sonic smiles and stands up, offering a hand to the other hedgehog "Good. Because I still want to be friends. It's much better than fighting all the damn time." Both Shadow and Tails give a confused look at Sonic when he said damn. The only time he usually says bad words is if he's pissed or in pain. Shadow pushes his hand away and stands up on his own, already over Sonic saying 'damn'. Tails groans and rubs his face. "Please don't tell me that Shadow's rubbing off on you. He cusses enough for all of us." Sonic just chuckles and shakes his head "No. I just don't see the need for avoiding cuss words as much anymore. Especially because there's not press following me around everywhere I go here."

The darker hedgehog just chuckles as dark as his fur. "Yes, join the fucking dark side, Sonic." purposely saying 'fucking' because Tails had to bring up how much he cusses like its a bad thing. Tails cringes and Sonic and Shadow both start laughing. "Tails, buddy you're too young and innocent. Never change." In a flash Sonic is over by Tails ruffling his fur. Shadow changes the subject and asks Tails "So, how'd you do on your test?" Tails perks up remembering what he was going to say when he first walked in. "Oh yeah! I got a 97! The highest score in the history of the school! Can you believe it?" Both the hedgehogs say "Yes" in a 'matter of fact' tone at the same time. They turn to one another halfway creeped out before turning back to Tails. Sonic smiles at his self proclaimed little brother "Of course I can believe it. You're a genius." Tails just beams in pride "Thank you."

They continue talking for a bit until Shadow sighs and puts his hand on his head "I'm. I'm going to go eat some coffee beans" he walks away Grunting in pain occasionally. Sonic and Tails look at each other confused before Tails gives him a 'YOU talk to him' look while mouthing the words. Sonic pouts slightly and follows Shadow. Tapping him on the shoulder. Not wanting to be loud since he doesn't know what's bothering him, he whispers "Shads? You ok?" Shadow sighs and stops, his eyes closed tightly. "Yeah, it's just a migraine. I got worked up too much earlier and chaos controlled to many times in a short period of time. I need to either eat or sleep, and I don't want to sleep right now." Sonic leads him to the table "Here, sit here. I'll get you some coffee beans. How many do you want?" Shadow just shrugs, sitting at the table and leaning his head on his hands, keeping his eyes closed. "I don't know. Probably about 15 is fine." Sonic quickly finds the beans and gets them out and brings the bag over to the table, pouring approximately 15 beans by Shadow. "Here, they're right next to you. I'm going to talk to Tails real quick."

Sonic makes his way back to Tails and informs him of what happened. Tails gives a slightly worried look towards Shadow and then turns back to Sonic. "I should call the others and see if they're getting dinner or if we should." Sonic nods then turns back to look at Shadow. He looked miserable. He kept his eyes closed tightly, leaning on the table with one hand on his temple. He occasionally took a bean and popped it into his mouth. Sonic nodded, talking quietly. "Maybe go onto the porch or our room to call? He seems miserable. I'm going to go try something." Tails nods and smiles "I'll go to the room to call." He heads off towards the room and shuts the door quietly. And Sonic heads over towards the kitchen where Shadow is sitting. 'This might be awkward, but if it helps, it'll be worth it." Sonic thinks to himself.
