Chapter 7: Progress

POV: Sonic

We walked in the house, smiling. The house was furnished and decorated. Knuckles and Rouge were sitting on the couch. Amy was in the Kitchen making food, and Tails was helping her. "Well. That's new~ what did you two do that have you both smiling?~" Rouge said with a smirk. Shadow cocked his head, clueless, and my face got red, realizing what she meant. "Ew, gross. No Rouge. Shadow and I made up at the coffee shop then he went and bought a bike and took me for a ride." She raised her eyebrows "He took you for a ride? Wow. You two must have made up very well. He never even offered me to go for a ride with him on his last bike." 

"Wow really?" I turned to Shadow to ask. He shrugged "She never asked" I cocked my head to the side "but I didn't ask either. You just told me to follow you because you had an idea. It was all fully your idea." I noticed a light embarrassed blush on his cheeks "Well, I know you like to go fast and right now you can't. I was going to buy a bike today anyway, but you looked sad earlier, so I figured I'd share the joy of riding, with you. And if we're going to be friends, the least I could've done was help you out." 'Huh. He's actually really caring once you get past that hard shell of his.' I smiled at him and nodded "Well I guess that makes sense. Thanks again Shads. It was a lot of fun" he walked over and sat on the chair and I sat on the love seat. "So. What did you two do today?" I say, turning to the two on the couch.

Rouge leaned back in the seat and answered "Well, Amy turned in her application and got the Job at the clothing store. She starts tomorrow. And then we went to the mattress store and got all of us beds. We had to use some of your money, Shadow since we didn't have enough. Then we walked around for a bit and found a bar. I put in an application and they hired me on the spot since I told them I used to own a club. Then we got some groceries for lunch and came home." Shadow shrugged when she had mentioned using his money. "I did tell you I'd cover whatever else we needed." 'Wait what? How come he doesn't care? Beds can be expensive. And they said they bought all 6 of them today and then groceries. Not to mention he bought a brand new bike today too. How much money does he have?'

I realise I'm staring at Shadow when knuckles clears his throat. "Sonic!" I shake my head and turn to him "Sorry. Heh. I zoned out, what is it Knux?" He crossed his arms "Yeah. I could tell. You were staring at Shadow over there and I couldn't get your attention." I blushed slightly realising how weird that is. "Anyway, I was trying to tell you that I managed to get a job at a gym today. I went in to punch some punching bags and noticed someone struggling and punching all wrong, so I helped them out and taught them the correct way. A trainer happened to be there and saw that, so he offered me a job, and I took it." I smiled and gave him a thumbs up "Good job Knux! I still don't know what I'll do. I can't even buy anything for myself right now since I have no money. I'll just have to rely on you guys for now." Amy and Tails came out of the kitchen and Amy clapped her hands together and said "Alright guys. Tails and I made lunch! So come to the kitchen table"

Knux and Rouge headed over to the dining room and took their seats at the table. I used my super speed and dashed into the kitchen getting an angry "Sonic! We said no powers!" From Rouge. I roll my eyes and cross my arms "So? We're in our own home, not public!". I hear Shadow say "Heh" from the living room and he appears in the seat next to me, obviously having used chaos control. Tails brought out the chilli dogs and grilled cheese sandwiches. And I felt my tail wagging in excitement "chillidogs! Heck yeah!"

I use Shadow sitting next to me to my advantage and nudge him with my elbow. "Hey shads, try a chillidog. Please~" he growls at the contact and shakes his head with a disgusted face "Definitely not, Hedgehog" I pout "Aww come on. Don't knock it till you try it. If you try it and don't like it I won't make you again. But how do you know you don't love them? You're definitely weird if you don't like them though." I hold the chillidog towards him and he pouts like a toddler and shakes his head "Never" I smirk and mumble only loud enough for Shads to hear "Pussy" he turns and glares at me, giving that low growl again. 'Again with the shivers. Why does he have to be so intimidating. It's weird' He takes the chillidog I was offering and takes a bite, keeping the stare. His expression quickly changes. His ears droop slightly, and his eyes widen just a hair, showing his satisfaction. "Fuck you." Is all he says, finishing the chillidog. I smile proudly "Ha! I knew you'd love it!" He smirks and snatches another chillidog from my plate "HEY that's my chillidog!" "Not anymore" he says as he licks it. "Unless you want it now~" I stick out my tongue "bleh. No thanks. It's definitely yours now" he shrugs and eats it. I mumble to myself "I've won, but at what cost?"

Tails chuckles at the scene before turning his head to me "Oh, Sonic. I almost forgot! I checked out the school and they gave me papers to fill out. I get a student card that gives me discounts around here. They have advanced science classes and even an advanced robotics class. Maybe I'll be able to tinker and figure out a way that we can get back. Only thing is I have to get a parent or guardian to sign me up. I was hoping you'd do that for me?" I notice that his tails are twirling shyly and he's tapping his fingers together. "Of course lil buddy. After all, I am technically your Guardian since I take care of you." I give him my signature smile and thumbs up which elicits a warm smile from him "Thank you. I'm actually excited. I haven't gone to school before, and they seem to have a lot of reputation for their robotics class. Maybe I'll even learn some new things!" I smile "Maybe. You're really smart though, so I doubt there's much you don't already know. We can go up to the school in a bit. I want to take a shower first though."
