Chapter 38: Respect

POV: 3rd Person

The day is Sunday. Amy, Knuckles, and Rouge are all off of work. The echidna wakes up from his slumber and walks to the kitchen, grabbing some grapes to munch on. As he's doing his morning workout, Rouge and Amy come out into the living room. Rouge stands against the wall, watching her boyfriend with a loving smile, and Amy heads to the kitchen to decide what to make for breakfast. Tails wakes up around 9 and looks around his room, noticing that Sonic isn't there. He doesn't think much of it since Sonic usually wakes up before him anyway, and heads out into the living room, still groggy from his sleep. He looks around and notices that the only ones in there were Rouge and Knuckles. He raises his eyebrow and walks to the kitchen, expecting to see Sonic there, but seeing only Amy. He walks up to the pink hedgehog, the two saying morning to each other before he decides to ask "Have you seen Sonic? I thought he'd be out here with you guys." She turns to him with a raised eyebrow. "Was he not in the room?" The fox shakes his head and Amy thinks for a second before replying. "He wasn't out here when Rouge and I woke up. Maybe go ask Knuckles. He could have gone on a walk before we woke up." Tails nods and turns, heading back towards the living room, walking up to the Echida currently chatting with his girlfriend. Knuckles turns his head and smiles at the fox, giving him a warm "Goodmorning" Tails smiles at him "Morning. Just curious, did you see Sonic this morning?" The echidna shakes his head and purses his lips in thought. "No, I thought he must have still been sleeping. I heard him come in last night and I woke up really early this morning." Tails starts to get worried before he thinks of something "Maybe he went on a walk really early?... Unless. He IS still sleeping."

Knuckles raises an eyebrow in confusion and Rouge chuckles at her naive boyfriend "He's saying he might be sleeping in someone else's room, who also isn't in here." The fox snickers and turns to the other two in the living room. "Want to go check? We'll have to be really quiet." Knuckles and Rouge nod their heads, getting up and following the fox over to Shadow's bedroom door. Amy turns, seeing the three sneaking and asks quietly "What's going on?" The three just point to Shadow's door, and place a finger over their mouths, telling her to hush. Tails slowly and quietly opens the door and the three see Sonic sleeping in Shadow's arms, for the second time now. They all cover their mouths, not wanting to make any noise and Knuckles takes his phone out, getting a secret picture of the two. They quietly shut the door, not wanting to be caught, and walk over to Amy showing her the picture. She covers her mouth and giggles "They're so cute. No wonder Sonic never liked me." Tails chuckles "Don't tell them I told you. Because they'll kill me if they found out, but Silver and I heard Sonic purring loudly for Shadow yesterday. He was getting his ears rubbed." Knuckles snickers "Plus they both seemed comfortable when Sonic was sitting in his lap the other night." Tails raises his eyebrow and turns towards Knuckles "When did that happen?" Amy giggles and Tails turns back to her as she answers "We were playing Truth or Dare. Shadow said something mean for my truth, and so to get back at him I dared Sonic to sit in his lap. They apparently didn't mind and started flirting so we ended the game. They didn't even notice we left at first" Rouge chuckles "Well, at least Shadow is less of a jerk now, so I guess Sonic is a good thing for him." I smile "Yeah, he's the one who paid for my entrance fee for the school. All Sonic had to do was ask and he showed up." Knuckles laughs before saying "Ok, enough about the two love hogs. We should go to the base today after breakfast. We need to get everyone combat ready as soon as possible. We have no clue what we should expect."

The group nods and Amy gets back to making breakfast. The rest of the group wait in the living room and after a little while hear a door open. Sonic and Shadow walk out from Shadow's room and stop in their tracks. The entire group is already awake, staring at them. "Um.." Sonic says as they continue staring "I thought I normally wake up before everyone.. what time is it?" Tails chuckles "It's about 9:30. Why do you sleep so long when you sleep in bed with Shadow?" The fox crosses his arms with a smirk, and the blue hedgehog blushes. Shadow just scoffs and crosses his arms, walking over to his coffee area. Sonic chuckles nervously and rubs the back of his head as they all walk back into the living room. "Who said I slept in his bed? I slept on the ground. He wanted to hang out last night and we ended up falling asleep." The rest of them laugh amd shake their heads. Knuckles speaks up "That's a lie. Tails was worried about you since none of us had seen you yet. We thought you might be in Shadow's room again, or maybe you two left before the rest of us. We opened the door quietly to check, and saw you two sleeping together~." The blue hero blushed darkly and stammered out a "S-so? Thats not weird. We're good friends now, and we had a sleepover. You're telling me that you've never slept in a friend's bed before?" Knuckles laughs "I have, but I wasn't cuddled up into his chest." Rouge smiled at the nervous hedgie "I don't think that's weird hun~ I've cuddled with plenty of my friends before." Tails nods with a light laugh "I have too. I guess we just weren't expecting Shadow to be a touchy type of friend." Sonic's blush slowly fades as he sighs, glad he was able to convince his friends that it isn't weird.
