Chapter 23: Eggman?!

Pov Tails:

'EGGMAN?!' I mentally screamed, seeing the round man at the desk with Orbot and Cubot by his side. He turns to me and smiles, which looks genuine, making it even more creepy. "Oh, hello! Welcome! You must be the new student, Miles right? I heard you broke the school's record for the placement test. I'm eggcited to have you in my class!" He laughs with his signature laugh. But this time it sounds, friendly? Rather than evil like normal. "U-um yeah, that's me." I make my way to my seat cautiously and look around the room, planning an escape route if need be. Orbot and cubot float around the room, handing out papers to the students. Cubot hands one to me and I can see that I was handed a picture of a model plane. Eggman- or I guess Dr. Kintobor- smiles and announces to the class in excitement. "Today and tomorrow we will be working on a small project. My assistants should have handed out one of twelve images to you. And since there are twenty four of you in the class, there will only be one other person who has the same type of project as you. Tomorrow we will be battling your opponent based off what you got. Winner gets extra credit. Now go to the tables and begin your work, and you can't be at the same table as someone with the same picture as you, so no cheating! Also, your model can't be any bigger than a textbook. It's preferred that it is remote controlled."

I make my way to one of the tables, chuckling quietly to myself 'A plane? How ironic. I'll definitely win' I begin working, as a female mobian chipmunk with a blue shirt, blue shorts, and matching boots walks up to the table I'm at, saying "I got a car, I hope you didn't also get a car." I shake my head "No I got a plane, so you can work over here with me." She smiles and begins working on the other side of the table "My name is Sally Acorn, you're new right? What's your name?" I smile at her, pausing my work for a minute to extend my hand, getting a handshake before going back to my work and answering. "My name is Miles Prower, but you can call me Tails. Today is my first day here, but I've made a lot of things before." She smiles, working on her car "That's awesome! I haven't invented much outside of the projects in this class, but I dabble occasionally."

I use my newfound friendship to my advantage and decide to ask about the rotten egg in the room. "So? What do you know about Dr Eggm- uh Kintobor?" I stop myself from saying Eggman by force of habit. She looks up for a second and chuckles "You were about to say Eggman, huh? Some people call him that as a joke since he likes to make egg puns so much. Well, I happen to be a big fan. That's why I ended up taking this class in the first place. Before he was a teacher, he was a huge scientist. He invented a lot of helpful things that places use for their companies. He was able to help a lot of people with his knowledge. One day he realised he wasn't able to have kids of his own, to pass on his knowledge to, so he decided to pass on his knowledge to thousands of kids instead by becominga teacher." She finishes her story with a smile and continues with her robo car. 'Huh, so Eggman is a good guy in this universe, so... if he's a good guy. Then who's trying to get info about mobians with powers?'

I continue working on my plane until the bell rings. I walk up to Dr. Ovi with my nearly finished plane, and ask "um, can I take this home? Or do I have to only work on it in class?" Without looking up, he replies "It would be ridiculous to expect my students to finish a project in two class periods. Of course you can take it home." He looks up to see my almost complete plane and widens his eyes, sitting up straight "Woah, did you do all this during class?" I nod "I mean, I've made way more complex things before." He smiles and reaches his hand out, asking permission to hold it. I give it to him hesitantly and he gently turns it around, studying it "You have a real talent. If you want, we have spots open in our robitics and engineering club. We'd be glad to let you join. You would have free range to the equipment and parts, as long as they're not already checked out. And we encourage you to make your own inventions." I smile "Yes definitely. I'd love to. When is the next meeting?"

Dr. Ovi smiles and grabs a sheet of paper with the schedule. "Our next meeting is tomorrow after school. Tonight is a science club night." I grab the paper and nod, walking to my next class before I'm late. I make it to Advanced science just before the bell rings. I look around the class to see Silver already waiting with a spot beside him. I walk up to him and he smiles "I had a feeling you were going to be in this class with me, so I saved you a seat." 'How'd he know?' I question to myself as I sit down "Thanks Silver... I appreciate it." I turn to the teacher, and listen to what she has to say.

After school finally ends I meet up with Silver where we decided to meet and I decide to go ahead and ask about the mysterious posters, since we're alone. "So, Silver? I was wondering if you happened to know anything about the posters I keep finding around town. Something about mobians with special powers needing to be reported, or something?" He turns to me, almost seemingly on edge "Um. Well I know that when someone gets reported, they come take them from where they were last seen. If they're not there they start an investigation and take them from their home while they are asleep. I don't exactly know where they go, but I know they never come back." He sighs quietly, but I pick up on it. I think for a second. "Hey, can I trust you?" He looks at me with a raised eyebrow, then nods "Of course." I nod "Ok, well I don't think anyone should be reported for something like that. I want to find out more about it so I can hopefully stop what's going on. If you can prove to me that I can trust you, I will talk more about this when we can talk in private, but until then, I'm leaving it at that."

He looks around for a minute before he grabs my arm "Come with me. We'll go to science club after this. Just promise me that I can trust you." I nod and link our pinkies "As long as you agree with what I said, then I pinky swear you can trust me." He nods and pulls me away from the school and down the block. We enter the woods and walk for a little while until we come across an a large looking building. He knocks a certain beat and the door unlocks, allowing us to enter. He says out loud "I found someone." I immediately get nervous thinking 'what have I done? Where is he taking me?'
