25th December 2019
I woke up to the soft tinge of ginger in the air and a distant hum of someone singing Christmas songs. I took a moment to adjust to the lights and got out of bed, I was wearing red pyjamas with a Christmas tree print all over. I checked the time and saw that it was 9:30am, I had no idea if other people were in my living room or not, so I changed into some proper clothes.
(This jumper over the top of the outfit above)I walked out of the bedroom and the smell of ginger grew stronger, and the hum grew louder. The Christmas decorations scattered over our apartment as they had been for the past few days. Demi was in the kitchen, and the living room was empty. "Where is everyone? I thought they were coming here for lunch." I said sitting on the kitchen island, she chuckled"it is only half nine, and we figured out last night that the living room is too small so we're going to the studio instead" Demi replied, not taking her eyes off the food she was cooking. "I dont remember that." I said furrowing my brow "yeah because you were asleep, me and Ami spoke about it last night, all of us are contributing still, and we were incharge of baked goods so" she said lifting up one of the cookies "gingerbread men, and Christmas cookies, then I hope you don't mind I looked at that cheesecake bite recipe and made some, they're in the fridge" she said sitting the cookies in the window ledge.
We talked for a little while, whilst packing all of the gifts into Demi's car, eventually Ami joined us and I put her gifts in my car, so there wasn't a mix up, I drove Ami and Xavier to the studio and Demi ran our presents down. Me and Ami were in charge of decorating and the presents so while everyone was cooking and preparing their items we were sorting presents and cards into piles around my dad's office, ready for everyone to arrive. The way things were arranged was we would do gift exchange and secret Santa in my dad's office and then we'd have food in the larger office. We had 7 piles of gifts: mine and Demi's, my mom's, Monica and Oliver's, Ami and Xavier's, Trav's, Izzy's, and Marcy's. My family began to arrive, starting with my mother, as much as I didn't want to see her, it was Christmas, and the kids deserved to see their grandmother.
"right! present time! everyone, find your pile and we'll start to unwrap our gifts!" Demi shouted, sitting down next to me. Everyone unwrapped their gifts and eventually I came across a gift addressed to me, from my mother, but before I could open it she said "I don't usually get you much, but I've been extremely tight on money this year, but I found that and thought you might like it." I smiled and opened it, looking in at the necklace with a guitar pick on it, it was my dads, it was the first thing we made when we began to play music together, it was my first pick, he never took it off. A tear rolled down my cheek "mom! where did you find this?" I asked, my nose turning pink. "cleared out the attic, and I thought that that meant a lot more than anything else" she replied, I walked over to her and hugged her for a moment before pulling away and having Demi help me put the necklace on.
Once the gift exchange had concluded me and Izzy headed to the kitchen and began to set the table for the lunch, everyone had already taken a seat and there were two remaining for me and my best friend. We dished out the food and began to eat and talk as a family.
*time skip*
It had been a few hours now and we were back at my apartment, Xavier and Marcy had gone to sleep and Ami was looking after them, she was tired anyway and didn't want to keep drinking, she was still breastfeeding after all. My mom had left as well because she said she had a migraine. It was just me, Demi, Travis, Izzy, Monica and Oliver now and we were all drinking, listening to music and having drinks. Demi had become very clingy with the more she drank, it was fun, watching her whine and lay all over me, I never really got to see her like this and it was funny when she was. Time flew by, Demi was still complaining about me not showing her attention, Oli was the most sober but I had called my brother, Monica and Marcy a cab because I didn't want anyone driving, the same went for Isabelle and Travis.
Now that it was jus me and Demi we could let go a little. I was sat on the sofa, demi was in the kitchen but only for a moment, she walked back in just as 'the Christmas song' by Nat King Cole began to play. She locked her eyes with mine and I could see the smile on her face growing As she pulled at my hands. "I can't dance." I said, unwilling to move. "That's a lie. Your mom told me you used to take lessons, now come on, I'll lead" she replied, pulling me to my feet and wrapping her arms around my waist. She held me close to her and swayed to the music, allowing me to rest my head on her chest, I listened to her breathing, her heart beat, she was calm, content with her position. As the song came to a close she said, "it's nearly midnight, before the day ends, look up" I was confused by her words, why would I need to look up, but when I did, it made sense. Above our heads, she held a branch of mistletoe, and with a smile, pulled my face closer to hers. Her lips connected with mine and I fell into her embrace, she held onto the kiss until the distance bell of the clock tower sounded, she pulled away but her smile remained "that was by far the best Christmas ever" she chuckled lifting me off my feet and carrying me, bridal style, to the bedroom...
