Wolf and Cat

Black cats are scary

A loud beat thudded in Nick's chest again, but time didn't slow, his vision almost blurred for a second and then snapped back. Slowly he moved his hand towards Kiri, "don't move kid.." A large black panther like animal leaped from the bushes, Nick grabbed Kiri and pushed himself to the side with her, dodging the thanator's attack. Hitting the ground Nick let out a growling bark at the thanator, raising its head the creature frizzled the quills on its face making a rattling hiss, A low growl replied from the wolf. bearing his fangs at the cat Nick leaned over Kiri as she laid frozen by fear. The thanator swiped at the wolf then backed up frizzling it's quills and hissing, the animal seemed confused at what stood growling at him. Nick backed up at the swipe while pulling Kiri back with him, carefully scooting her behind him away from the thanator, "slowly back away kid, call for your ikran if it's still alive". Breathing heavily, Kiri slowly stood up with her tail swishing, she hesitated. "Go kid, I'll handle the cat" he smirked. As kiri did as she was told, she slowly backed up and disappeared to the trees while Nick kept the cat distracted by his growls. Now that the kid was gone she still wasn't safe, out of sight there'd be no way of knowing her situation, he had to get rid of the black cat. In a raspy dark tone weighted by the growl in his throat, "come on kitty". A loud roar from the black cat echoed through the forest, it launched itself at the wolf swiping its arm to get a hold, rolling himself to the side Nick now faced the back of the cat, leaving no time Nick jumped on its back and instantly went for one of the quills on the cats head, as he bit down on the top left quill the cat shrieked and roared, rolling on its back he bucked the wolf off, in doing so Nick had torn off the cats quill, blood poured from the cats head. The thanator fell back in pain and rubbed his head onto the ground groaning, turning to the wolf on the ground with bared teeth, still holding the large quill in his mouth, the cat turned and ran leaving a trail of blood behind.

Nick stood up and spat out the quill, wiping the blood from his mouth as it dripped to the chestnut fur on his chest. The wolf now needed to find Kiri and ensure she was safe. Nick stumbled through the forest with his limping leg, the thanator had almost crushed his leg when it rolled and bucked on the ground, something was broken. "Kiri?" Called out Nick. There was no reply, no scent of her strangely enough, almost as if her trail had disappeared, it shouldn't have. Sitting on the grass the wolf needed to think. "Haven't had a break since bridgehead... goddamn it.." he muttered while rubbing his face. Nick sniffed the air hoping to get a trace of the girl, nothing, getting up the wolf continued walking the direction he saw Kiri go. As Nick walked past a large tree some kind of hard fruit fell on his head, it felt deliberate. Looking up there was Kiri, sitting on a long branch with her feet dangling down. "Climb up" she said, if it wasn't for Nick's great hearing he may not of heard her, that quiet voice of hers. Nick looked around at the large tree, contemplating whether he should try or not. Reaching out his paws with human like features, claws still extended, he tried grabbing the tree and sinking his hands into the wood, Wolves don't climb. Pulling the vines more then himself Nick barely gained any height, pushing his feet up trying to use those as extra climbing tools, bending his body forward over the tree, like he'd seen in clips of Na'vi climbing trees. Little by little the wolf climbed the large tree, getting up to Kiri's branch he could hear her giggling, "I save your life now your laughing at me, that's harsh kid" he huffed while pulling himself over the branch, sitting up next to Kiri. "You climb like a human". She smiled. "I live with em, I'm not bred for climbing either". "Bred for?" Asked Kiri. "Something your born to do" he replied. "Humans are not bred for climbing, I know one who can climb far better than you". "The kid with the blue paint?". "Mm, spider." Nick chuckled, "you call him spider? What's his actual name". Kiri's ears lowered, she looked down the tree. "His birth name is miles, no one calls him that". "Well why not?". "Because it's the same man who destroyed my families home, killed many of our people, but he's dead now". "Fucking RDA.." muttered Nick. Looking away from the girl in shame. "RDA?" She asked. "You call them sky people if I'm correct, humans sent from another planet to take over yours as there home, ruthless bastards with no care or thought". "Yet your with them" she looked at the wolf with sadness in her eyes, a look of anger and pain. Nick crossed his arms and glanced back at her. "Not anymore I guess, didn't have a choice honestly" . Kiri put her hand on the wolf's chest, to his heart, locking eyes they both saw something in each other that words couldn't explain, no love or anger, could only be described as instinct or a pull from something far greater than themselves, not to pull each other closer but to have understanding, of what? That was not known. "I see you" she smiled looking into his eyes. The wolf lowered his ears, he didn't understand what it meant but he knew it had some deep meaning. Breaking the silence, a roar came from above the tree, not from a thanator or toruk, but an Ikran. Landing on the bark of the tree next to there branch, Kiri's ikran roared happily at the site of her owner. As Kiri's ikran landed, another ikran flew over and braced itself in front of the tree, turning to its side, Jake appeared, Rifle attached to his side. "Dad!" Said Kiri standing up onto the branch, smiling and swishing her tail, Nick looked at the man on the ikran, thoughts poured into his head, something kiri had said "my father may not kill you", he was likely planning to kill the wolf anyway after telling Kiri he wouldn't, it made sense, he wasn't to be trusted, but there was something kiri saw in him, and Jake did indeed trust his kids. Kiri climbed over and go onto her ikran, looking at the wolf she held out her arm for him to grab, "I'll take him Kiri, fly home" his voice was tough and concerned, his daughters safety alone in the hands of a stranger. Closely flying his ikran to the branch, Nick reached to Jake's arm and sat holding on behind him on the ikran. Flying back home, Jake adjusted his gun, turning the safety on, then strapping it behind his back, Nick was heavily trained with guns though he always refused to use one, made him sick. Flying into home base, Kiri was being attended to by Neytiri, clinging her in her arms then accessing for injuries. Jake landing his Ikran hopping off with ease then separating his queue from the animal. Looking at the Wolf, Jake was waiting for him to hop off as he tended to his gun. Nick noticed his glare and sighed, "this is gunna hurt" he thought. Climbing off and hopping onto the ground, his feet hit the ground and instantly Nick hunched down and lowered his ears in aching pain. "Fuck.." he breathed, limping the leg. "You did that climbing?" Asked Jake. With a small groan at the pain, Nick glanced at Jake, "thanator". Jakes ears twitched and his tail flicked, looking over at Kiri then back to the wolf, "Neteyam said it was a Toruk". "We got chased by a Toruk then we went to the ground and lost it, then a thanator showed up". "Where was Kiri". "She's fine I told her to run, took care of it". Jake sighed. "Did you kill it?". "No way" Nick chuckled. "Son of a bitch's missing a quill tho". Jake bit the side of his mouth glancing away then walked to the wolf, pointing at one of the labs further up the base, "look for max he'll look at your leg". Said Jake. "Alright, thanks" huffed Nick. Limping to one of the labs with the door open, there was a large cryo capsule holding a female avatar, besides the capsule was a human holding a clipboard, he was fat. "Max?" Asked Nick, hunching under the door. Max looked over and dropped his clipboard, shock stained on his face, "uh." Looking around, he was alone in lab. "I was told to come to you about my leg? It's fucked". "Um.." max continued glancing around. Nick sighed and ducked under the door coming in, he held onto the doorframe as his leg limped in. Air clouded in Max's mask as he heavily breathed, silently panicking at the sight. Nick leaned over Max and gently put his hands on his shoulders, "it's alright, I just want you to look at my leg I'm not gunna hurt you" He said in a calm and serious tone. "Uh.. outside would be best" Said Max, pointing outside and walking back to the door. Now outside Nick sat himself on the floe outside of the lab, Max quickly went back in to get his things. Examining the leg Max took his time studying it, like a lycan his leg arched like a wolf, the feet were long and were anything like a humans foot, upon touching the leg Nick flinched and bared his teeth, not on purpose. Each growl Nick let out whenever the leg was touched, Max would flinch and look up at him with concern. "The bones definitely broken, you may have some minor fractures in some other places in the whole leg, if I could access your whole body for injuries-". "Ah, not needed Doc it'll heal in no time" crossing his arms and smirking with confidence, almost like he was hiding something. "It really would be best I access all of you encase something else is wrong" insisted Max, he was glancing around the wolf's body not daring to make eye contact, while looking he noticed a dark patch in Nick's Chestnut fur. Max leaned over closer to the wolf focused on the patch, pointing his light at it, the fur was caked in blood. "Your bleeding near your ribs.." Said Max quietly. Nick's ears lowered then he looked at the patch of blood, "shit" he muttered. "There's a bigger lab I'll take you to" Max got up and collected his things. They both walked to a bigger lab not far from the little one, as Nick was walking he was breathing heavily, trying to hide his pain, he wiped his side and looked at the blood smeared on his hand, it didn't affect him much, he put his hand down and continued walking.
