Head up the wolf was sniffing around trying to catch a scent. Only the smell of dirt and trees was familiar to his nose, others he could recognise but nothing stood out like an animal. The wind was calm, yet again nothing stood out within it. The smell of water swept the wolf's nose like a silky blanket, it smelt soft and pristine, only imagination could describe what it was like, truly different to earths water. From a trot to running at full speed through the forest. Sinking his paws into the ground with each heavy step, the dirt seeped around his paws and flung out behind his trail. Tail puffing out it stood straight.
Nick halted as he got closer to the water, it wasn't a lake or river, it was a little pond of water. Silent and sneaky the wolf crept closer. Trees and large bushes hid the pond, but there was a smell of flesh behind it. Blood and muscle, thick and pulsing the smell grew stronger with each strong sniff the wolf took. It had been years since he hunted anything, even on earth he rarely hunted, it was modern society there was simply no need to. It brought back memories, instincts telling him to run and tear the animal apart. Faint noises of the water ripples as an animal licked it up. Ears perked up the wolf walked closer to the bush, peering his eyes through a gap in the bushes he saw it. Three hexapedes stood at the pond drinking calmly. They weren't as full of meat like Nick would prefer but it would do.
While his thoughts swept in clouding his mind, the smell of the animals driving him crazy, Nick knew he needed think this through. Hexapedes we're incredibly fast, they could out run him within a few minutes. Inspecting the hexapedes there was a baby standing next to what should be the mother, a large male stood in front gulping the water. Only logical thing here to do is hunt the male. The wolf didn't care much for hunting infants, baby animals are a weakness to him, a strong buck intrigued him with a challenge.
Quietly stepping forward accidentally stepping onto a stick it snapped, the hexapede's looked quickly looked up flicking there ears. If they ran before the wolf there's a good chance he'll miss his chance, he was too close and hungry to hold back. Leaping forward snarling his fangs the wolf ran at the buck. Turning around in a hurry the hexapedes ran back into the trees, a wolf on there trail. Running like gazelles the hexapedes we're quick, the calf staying close to its mother slowing behind. Nick had no interest in the calf or mother, he leaped over the calf chasing the buck, he was fast. Nick's chest was racing and his breath paced, sticking his tongue out as he ran trying to stay on track.
Chasing down the animal Nick took a breath and lowered his head running as fast as he could, this would only last for a short moment until his stamina gave out. Dripping drool from his mouth the wolf could feel his chest starting to ache. Getting right behind the hexapede the wolf jolted and dug down his paws, putting his head forward. The wolf leaped forward in a small jump, as the hexapede ran, Nick opened his mouth biting the middle of the animals leg. Clenching down he turned his body to the side taking the hexapede with him. As they turned and hit the ground the leg snapped in the wolfs jaws. The hexapede called out trying to stand on its legs, Nick let go of its leg and stepped over to the animal grabbing its neck into his jaws he sunk his teeth into the animals throat. Getting a deep hold he turned his head and pushed back, ripping the hexapedes throat out. Falling down the animal went silent and limp. Spitting the insides out Nick grabbed onto its Neck again, dragging the animal back.
Ace sat on the branch petting the thanators head. She was soft and fragile. Eyes closed the cub kept her legs curled to her tummy with her tail tucked. Putting his hand over her stem queue Ace brushed along it. Putting his hand to her queue it wrapped around his finger tightening down. A smile grew on the recoms face, his ears lowered as he swished his tail. Laying down on his back Ace put the cub on his stomach under his tank top. Resting his hands over the bump on his shirt the recom closed his eyes, a purr vibrated in his chest slightly making him shake. It felt nice and giddy.
A loud bark echoed from the bottom of the tree. Ace's ears twitched at the sound, opening his eyes he checked under his shirt, cub fast asleep and warm. Carefully sitting up Ace looked down the branch, Nick was sitting on the ground looking up, patiently waiting, still in his primitive form. Climbing down with the cub tucked in his arm, Ace took his time getting down with one arm. On the ground instantly the smell of meat hit Ace's nose, his stomach rumbled. Nick glanced at the cub then back to Ace, huffing from his nose the wolf sat and looked down at the floor then back to Ace. Wasn't hard to understand, Ace plopped the cub down next to Nick and walked around collecting sticks and looking for stones.
With his paw Nick moved the cub gently onto her side, shuffling around she made a growling shriek. Laying down the wolf nuzzled her stomach as he began licking it, this was how the parents would help there babies urinate. Nick didn't if it would work but he was pleased it did. After she was done he nudged her away from the puddle cleaning her up.
Ace fixed up a fire and lit it using some rocks he'd found. With the fire going he grabbed his tactical knife out that Nick gave back during the flight to home base. Cleaning the knife with some soggy leaf's he found, tugging the hexapede back Ace began cutting up the animal, Turning to Nick, "you want me to cut your pieces?". The wolf shook his head in reply.
As Ace cut his pieces he stuck them onto a sharp stick laying it over the fire. The rest of the meat pieces were laid on clean leaf's waiting to be cooked. Nick pulled the carcass to the side behind Ace so he wouldn't see, but the sound may as well be worse. Digging his face into the carcass, chewing and gulping down meat. Pulling strips away and chowing down muscly chunks of meat until only fleshy bones were left. Wolves were known to eat almost a third of their body weight in a single meal, for pups they could carry slightly more. Laying down the wolf's stomach was bloated and full. The cub wriggled it's small legs around making weird growling sounds with her mouth gaped open."How you gunna feed her?" Asked Ace.
Nick sat up, facing the cub he started hurling. Moshed soft chunks of meat spewed onto the ground in front of the cub. Ace put his hand over his mouth turning around lowering his ears. The cub sniffed and crawled forward gulping down the meat. The sounds made Ace gag. Laying back down snuggling the cub, Nick closed his eyes and huffed. The recom swallowed down and tried finishing his food.Once Ace was finished he killed the fire and dragged the carcass away so no predators would come near. The sun was completely set and already viperwolves we're howling in the distance. Sitting up Nick walked to the bottom of the tree and started digging.
"What're you doin?" Asked Ace tilting his head.
Nick turned around squinting his eyes annoyingly at Ace, he knew he was unable to talk. Turning his head back the wolf continued digging. Digging into the dirt Nick was making a burrow to sleep in, it would be dangerous sleeping in the open and with his full stomach he couldn't shift back to climb up the tree.
Happy with the burrow Nick went back and picked up the cub by her scruff with his mouth wriggling into the burrow snugging his face to hers. Ace stood at the burrow and knelt down. "Can I join you?" His sad begging tone.
Nick wagged his tail shuffling himself to the side trying to make room. Ace crawled in squishing Nick halfway out of the burrow, it wasn't very big, only an hour or two of work.Curling himself up on his side Ace looked to Nick, they were so close their noses touched. Smiling Ace squinted his eyes at the wolf, "Little stuffy in here" he lightly chuckled.
Nick gently licked the tip of Ace's nose, his tail wagged from outside of the burrow rustling the leaf's outside. Shrieking and shuffling around wiping his Nose, "I can smell the raw meat from your mouth don't do that!" Said Ace.Nick shuffled closer curling his head in the recoms arms. The cub rested in the middle of the two at Ace's stomach, the wolf kept his snout towards cub, checking on her periodically.
Through the night the recom slept peacefully, not a shuffle or sound. The cub however woke up multiple times through the night growling and crying, Nick needed to shuffle out feeding and licking her stomach. It came natural to him doing so, not needing to wonder why the cub woke up he just let his instincts tell him what to do.
As sunrise came the forest awakened. Ikrans roaring and wings beating through the forest, the lemurs of the Pandorian forest made there calls as they swung through the trees. Water dripped from the leaf's and trees to the ground as a cold breeze blew through. The beating wings of an ikran flapped as it came near landing on the tree above the burrow, cocking his head the ikran waited on the branch.
