Spencer loathes the thought of Sam figuring out that his new neighbor is less than normal in his intentions, and that the new man in his life has been manipulative toward him on certain occasions. The amber-eyed man adores Sam, genuine in the words and actions he had told the lonely boy. He merely used light manipulation to steer the boy in the direction Spencer needs him to be, to gain information that will only help them both. Sam can be a smart cookie if he overthinks everything too much. He'll doubt himself to the point of giving up a friendship, allowing himself to push Spencer from his life.
The YouTuber can't allow that, because Sam is Spencer's. He owns that skittish puppy boy across the hall and he will make certain he keeps the boy. He just needs to work harder to gain more trust and get Sam to realize that he could be taken care of, wouldn't need to worry over simple things. Sam likes how Spencer treats him, whether he is aware of it or not. It'll take time to get Sam to realize just how much he craves the kind of attention Spencer gives, although it may take less time than Spencer is preparing for. For the past few days, it seems that Sam has decided to open up a bit more.
Spencer has learned about some of the classes Sam takes, who Charlie is exactly to him, and how he adopted the dogs. To say he was shocked when his question of how school was going, was answered with a detailed description of what happened, is an understatement. He is incredibly happy his questions are being answered, he just isn't sure what to think.
It seems Sam has thought their growing relationship over in that overactive mind of his, decided he wasn't giving much effort, or perhaps he felt bad for not opening up as Spencer has. It doesn't necessarily matter to the taller man, as long as Sam is speaking to him he is delighted. More so now that he knows Charlie won't be an issue, love triangles aren't something Spencer is willing to challenge through. Charlie is the best friend and will stay that way, no matter what.
He hasn't asked whether Sam is interested in Charlie romantically or not, but the way Sam spoke told enough. Maybe I should ask that question specifically, Spencer thinks as he edits a longer video he filmed, just to be positive that friend of his isn't a problem. Nodding to himself, he decides to bring it up on the walk this bright Sunday morning. They agreed through text last night to leave the building around ten, give Sam time to sleep in a bit, and take his time to get ready. Spencer had stayed up to work and filmed and edited videos that are now scheduled to go up during the week. He is eager to see Sam today, the whole night without seeing him made the amber eyes man twitchy. As if Sam is a drug Spencer quit cold turkey; eager to see, touch, and taste his little nervous neighbor.
Across the hall, Sam happily feeds his dogs their breakfast, eating leftover lasagna he made the night before as his breakfast. He admits, spending time with Spencer and allowing himself to stop thinking over every single action has made him relaxed and joyful. He can enjoy himself, open up and go with the flow of things when he lets his mind go blank. The talk with Charlie helped him decide what to do about his neighbor and while he knows Spencer could be bad news, he'll take a chance.
Because he's lonely and someone has shown interest in being his friend, he likes how the man treats him. Spencer takes care of him and his dogs when out in public together, keeps him away from the roads, and takes the leash from him when the dogs tug too much. Spencer shows genuine interest in his school work, his friend, and how he came to be in this town. Sam has someone with him that cares, finally. Throughout his life, he has taken care of himself or helped provide for himself and his father. Cooking meals for his parents, being a caregiver when his Father needed help, and reminding his Mother to rest and eat. While it's true he didn't feel the need for friends in middle or high school, it would've been nice to have someone there to care for him or talk to him. Charlie does when he visits, but he has his own life and Sam feels horrible for taking time away from the fun he could be having.
