The next morning, Sam is woken up by Cerberus jumping on his body and paws pulling at the blanket. He's disoriented, dazed eyes fluttering open and wincing at the brightness of day. After a moment, he processes a knock at his door. Fenrir and Orthrus run between the bed and the door, howling quietly and nosing at his face when they realize he is waking up. Groaning tiredly, Sam pushes the comforter off him and starts to roll off the bed. Yelping loudly when Cerberus gets impatient and kicks him off as he jumps over the human. Landing with a thump on the floor, face down and having newly pulsing elbows from the fall. He lays there for a second, sighing and resting his cheek on the floor, blurry gray eyes staring at the bottom of his bed. Another knock sounds as his dogs crowd him, wet noses sniffing and tongues kissing his skin, checking on him.
The banging at the door seems to get louder, a concerned voice calling in. It's Spencer, he realizes and slowly climbs to his feet, rubbing his elbows and knees, now registering the ache around his rib bones. The floor is harder than it looks, he thinks with a groan sigh. The hyper dogs herd him to the door rather than their breakfast bowls, a fact that surprises him. He hadn't noticed how much the dogs like Spencer, other than the first few weeks of meeting the man. Since they became a couple, he's been focused on other things, not necessarily watching their reactions to the new constant in their home. Which brings a stab of guilt to his heart, he hasn't forgotten about them and still walks them everyday, takes great care to feed them properly.
However, he hasn't paid as much attention to their unspoken language as much as he should. They could sense if he was in danger or warn him if Spencer does something, protect him. Watching them should be a priority, especially with a new man in his life that could very well be a secret murderer for all he knows. The youtuber has been caring and kind, loving even, but that doesn't mean he couldn't be dangerous. Every crime show starts with someone saying the killer was normal, generous and polite. It would be best to keep an eye on the dogs more closely, just for the off chance they do see or sense something he doesn't.
It could save his life, after all. Spencer doesn't appear to want to bring him harm, doing all that he does for Sam it just makes him believe the man wants to care for him. His dogs look to believe that as well, or they wouldn't be so excited about him knocking at the door. It could also be that he learned how to feed them, Sam smiles to himself at that thought. Happy Spencer took the time to watch and remember the specifics of feeding them, knowing it's a decently long process and they're picky some days. The youngest Boxer more so than the other two, Orthrus loves new things to eat and will try anything at least once. He stole a piece of fresh garlic from Sam when the human was cooking for a class, chewed it once, then spit it out with as much disgusted expression a puppy could make. His teacher thought it was humorous, cooing at the young dog, yet advising blocking the kitchen off for classes.
Every once in a while when Sam has money to spare for fresh, home cooked meals, he'll buy different fruits or vegetables for the dogs to try. Doing this, he learned Orthrus adores cranberries and Mango, which Fenrir enjoys as well. Cerberus likes peaches and celery, while they all love green beans and broccoli. Fenrir prefers brussels sprouts, watermelon and cucumbers when he's able to eat them. They eat these foods in moderation, never all at once and never everyday.
They're special treats that he buys for them every few months, the dogs always get excited at the sight and smell of the ones they like and he enjoys seeing them so happy. This thought process reminds him, he should go to the store and buy groceries, maybe pick up some of the stuff the animals like. Preferably on his day off, which is another day away as it's Saturday and he needs to get to work tonight.
His boss was kind enough to let him have last night off because he was working hard and she thought he needed a day with Spencer, his boyfriend taking it upon himself to speak to her about it. Sam tried to stop him, but the man just shook his head and smiled before going up to his boss. He was told by her that she agreed he should have a relaxing night, after all he had been baking and doing classes that kept him busy.
