The neighbors decide to plan their date on a Saturday, merely a week after nearly a month of meeting. Spencer is overjoyed at how remarkably easy it was to gain Sam's trust, most of it at least. He is aware his boy is only curious enough to go along with him, but Sam still has ways to go to get where the redhead wants him to be. Spencer wants all the loyalty and trust his skittish neighbor can give, and wants Sam to be devoted to him in every way possible. For this to happen, he needs to treat this situation meticulously, use caution when speaking and be careful not to spook Sam too much. The student is new to everything and while Spencer is eager to start a relationship with him, time isn't always on his side.
Too fast and Sam will run away, too slow and Spencer will eventually push too far, ruining all the work. In order to avoid this from becoming reality, he has decided to pace both of them. He'll continue the small touches and light orders, to get his boy accustomed to that. Frame the orders as requests, because not all demands are direct and the sooner Sam sees them for what they are, he'll learn faster. He'll teach Sam slowly, so slowly he won't even realize he is being trained as Spencer's submissive. Just need to be patient, Spencer thinks as he records a shooter game, he'll be mine. Already is. Patience.
For Sam, he is excited and extremely nervous. Wondering what they'll do on a date or if he'll end up embarrassing himself, considering what he will do if he trips. His anxiety is higher than ever, digging himself in baking or school to distract his mind. The thoughts of various ways he could ruin the day for them plague him, tripping to choking on food and even falling off a chair. He knows it's unlikely he'll experience half of the situations in his mind, but that knowledge doesn't stop his anxiety from rising. The Friday before the set date is the worst, he works himself up into a near anxiety attack and prepares three full cakes at work. One was a fancy three tier cake that ended up selling for a business party at one of local law firms, his boss was incredibly proud of him for that.
He wishes he could have felt proud as well, one of his cakes had been sold in under an hour after he placed it on the shelf, he should be bouncing off the walls in happiness. However, he only manages a shaky smile and his mind goes right back to torturing him. That night he stays up, staring at the ceiling and cursing himself for not having the courage to speak to Spencer during their walk. The man could've helped assure him, but it was too scary and embarrassing to admit how this single date was affecting him. Sam feels like a child terrified of the dark and needing his parents to reassure him.
Maybe he can help me overcome most of my anxiety, Sam hopes, giving the dogs their breakfast on Saturday morning. It would be great to not get overworked about the simplest things. Spencer has promised to spend the whole day together, make the day a date instead of merely going to a dinner or movie and going home. Sam agreed, because it did sound nice and he is curious as to what they'll do all day. He was told Spencer would come over in the morning and they'd plan out together, he liked that too. At least he has a lay out of what to expect and he's not going into the day blindly, this way he can prepare his mind.
Hopefully, Spencer can distract him enough he won't fight his mind over anything and everything. Sam has always had issues with overthinking since he was a child, in school he did great on tests and his work, but was always the last to finish. Over analyzing every single answer or unable to focus clearly, always moving his foot in a beat of playing with a pencil. Now, he just pushes his movement habits into baking. The various actions needed in making a cupcake or sweet satisfies the need to move, he can hum and let memory lead him instead of actively thinking.
His parents didn't understand why he did so good in school when his attention span certainly wasn't the best. At home he couldn't do much without his attention going from thing to thing, he'd start watching a movie then get distracted with moving his desk around for a change. Video games didn't hold his focus, he got bored fast and went onto something else. Surprisingly, reading helped immensely.
