With their movie date officially over, Spencer drives them back to the apartment building. Letting Sam play with the radio and the games on the older man's phone, the baker doesn't have downloaded mobile games on his own. On the ride back, the dominant of them starts asking questions about the animated movie they watched. How did you like it? What was your favorite part? Favorite character? He wants to get Sam speaking, steer his wild mind away from the sudden episode of panic he experienced. It works, after a few innocent questions Sam puts his boyfriends phone down and opens up on what he thought of the animal film.
Gushing over the animations, the characteristics and personalities of the dogs, how he loved the simple plot of it. Offhandedly, the younger mentions that certain scenes reminded him of how he plays and interacts with his three dogs. Saying it made the experience much more relatable and he felt a strong connection with a specific dog in it; a shy Basenji that was timid and anxiously introverted at times. Spencer wasn't surprised to hear that, he made that connection on his own when he noticed how struck his boy was with the Basenji.
Once he realized Sam was paying the most attention to that specific dog he made sure to direct many comments to the character. Praising the fictional dog for going out with a group rather than staying home alone, calling it a good boy for speaking its mind. Simple things the character did, normal everyday actions like eating or drinking from the water bowl, became something to praise.
Spencer did this merely to show Sam that anything can make him a good boy if he took the time to do them. Eating his food and drinking his water are common sense, actions that are needed to live, yet Spencer finds himself having to remind the boy to do both. Sam is hyper focused on his dogs and Spencer, worrying over getting their food put out and plated or getting them beverages to drink. He isn't worrying for his sake, is forgetting the most important person there is; him. More than once, he has scolded Sam for not eating. The baker likes to pick at his food, eyes always flickering to the dogs or Spencer as if they'll need something. He'll jump up and clean the dishes before finishing his own plate, wash the dogs bowls to keep bugs from getting in them, and ask the older man if he wants anything else.
While Spencer is delighted that his new little boyfriend is such a cute service sub for him, he would like to see some of the effort he is given, be put back into Sam. The puppy boy enjoys doing things for Spencer, actions he wasn't requested to do in the first place. He simply does them; serving meals, drinks and anything he can, doing Spencer's dishes, offering to make desert. The Youtuber was pleasantly surprised to see he hadn't needed to train this into Sam, but as he observed more he realized he needed to train the boy to only do them on command.
Otherwise, Sam isn't concentrating on himself, isn't serving himself. That isn't what the Dominant wants, he aims for Sam to be able to do his services and still focus on his own needs. The man has been able to get Sam to eat with only little reminders, a stern request to stop picking at the food, a light nudge and nod to the full plate. He has gotten the boy to eat full meals, just with repeated attempts before the food is gone. He's considering a tiny, light, punishment to show he won't tolerate this pattern repeating. Something that would show Sam if he doesn't eat on his own, he'll be in trouble.
It should be relatively easy to punish the younger man, he is already intimidated by a tone of voice and how large Spencer is. It's amazing how quickly Sam moves when he is given a request in a strict tone or a rough murmur in his ear, he'll do a tiny jump at times when he processes the sentence then go into a hurry to complete whatever he was told to do. It's impressive another Dominant hadn't seen the potential in the baker, then again, Sam hadn't made an effort to be social and allow people into his life. It appears as if Sam is a natural submissive, someone who is simply submissive in everyday things or genuinely enjoys listening to orders if they're given.
