The late afternoon and into the evening is tense, and awkward, between the three men. Spencer disallows Sam closer to Robin during the walk to and around the park, heavy arm chaining the boy to the YouTuber's side from around his shoulders. The man ignores Robin easily, eye's on the dogs or Sam, and doesn't speak unless he feels the need. Sam understands his boyfriend doesn't like his friend, and that he is planning out punishment for him. The boy leans closer into the hold to calm the anticipation rising in him, down. Tries to focus on the conversation with Robin, no matter that the man stares suspiciously at Spencer.
Walking the dogs is the only action Sam is allowed to do, holding the leash and staying directly next to his partner. He isn't to go farther ahead, shift closer to his co-worker or pause their path. Must stay at the pace Spencer uses, which he keeps slow enough for the boy to walk easily with him. Sam doesn't enjoy the looks his friend gives Spencer, knowing that Robin has certain ideas and thoughts about the man. The exact reason the Youtuber dislikes the man, had wanted him to cease speaking to him.
The baker suspects Spencer may fear the things Robin said will force him to leave him, and that Sam will begin to see things based on what he was told and break them up. It appears as a fear, and he tries to show the man attention with light touches and the occasional kiss on his cheek. He earns little glances, amusement, and adoration in amber eyes.
For Robin, seeing the couple interact doesn't lift any previous thoughts on the older man. He sees a love-blind friend trapped with a controlling man, one that will threaten or engage in violence at a point. He is concerned for Sam's safety, even after witnessing how Spencer looks at the younger man. Robin doesn't trust the man to hold his anger. If Sam were to make him mad, he could hurt his friend or possibly kill him if not paying attention. However, he can't report it to the police. There is zero evidence of abuse and Sam is as happy as a house cat, enjoying every moment with the taller man. No doubt Sam would revolt against Spencer being accused of such a thing, perhaps even be arrested for questioning or the like.
Maybe... There's really nothing here to be concerned about. It's a stray suggestion in the co-worker's mind as he watches Spencer lean down to kiss Sam's hair. Then, he gets a flashback to their first meeting, where the man threatened him if he touched or looked at Sam. Yeah, no. There's definitely something off. If he presses any harder on the subject of Spencer being bad news, he knows the man will convince Sam otherwise and he wouldn't have a friend to speak to anymore.
Sam had nearly stopped talking to him altogether last time. Robin doesn't want that, as he enjoys Sam's company and conversations. Keeping this in mind, along with the fact that the man is standing feet away, the conversation is trained on the bakery, school, or animals. Sam asks Spencer about his work and while he answers, he doesn't direct his words to Robin. It's expected, especially when Robin assumes Sam told the man about what he has said.
The friends learn much more about each other, laughing at jokes that cut a bit of the tension. Sam speaks about how he got Fenrir, Cerberus, and Orthrus. How he trained them and gave tips he used to help them understand what to do during training, even showing off for his friend. Robin noticed the glance up to Spencer when Sam suggested showing some of the tricks he and the dogs learned, witnessing the man give a slight nod before Sam called for Fenrir.
Permission. He just got permission. It shocks Robin, having thought Spencer would keep such things to strictly the house. It was subtle, not obvious unless one was looking for such an action. He may have missed it if he wasn't so keen on finding a reason to separate them.
Moreover, permission to simply show a few tricks Fenrir can do? That seems much more power control-heavy than the co-worker may have expected. What if I have things wrong? Not traditional abuse, but something else. Millions of kinks and fetishes could be abused to be harmful or unhealthy. This thought brings up even more questions, some of which scare the man. He promised himself to do research into possible reasons for the couple's behavior, wanting to educate himself before he accuses Spencer further - in his mind or out loud.
